I remember him taking a lot of shit for that song at the time.  I guess critics thought it was too melodramatic or sycophantic.

Have downloaded it but havent heard it yet, but the taper rates it 8.5 out of 10.

However, apparently a couple of other prominent tapers were at the show too, so it's probable there'll be one or two more versions in the next few days, and maybe even better quality too.

Hey, Did you try to get into Red Bank?  Maybe you got it.  Seemed like on helluva show.

Did, but eventually decided that $1250 would be better spent on more than one show...

I am somewhat new to the Bruce obession.  Can someone tell a little more about the unplugged/plugged Mtv concert.  Was it supposed to be all unplugged?

I just find out after Devil's Arcade, there's a hidden song on the vinyl pressing, I'm guessing for Terry Magovern since there is a small reading about him on the lyrics sheet.  I checked my cd and this is not on here.  Is there any more info on this song or title

Not sure if you're saying it's not on your CD, but 'Terry's Song' is on mine.
And yes, it's about longtime personal assistant and friend Terry Magovern.

Bruce performed it at his memorial service, and also played it recently in Houston on what would have been his 68th birthday.

Since the premise of MTV's Unplugged series was acoustic arrangements, safe to assume that at one point it was supposed to be.

Story is that Bruce didn't like how the rehearsals were going with his "new" band, so he scrapped the original plan - save for the solo acoustic opener (and debut) of 'Red Headed Woman'.

I heard some DJ on a Sacramento radio station today say that their is going to be a DVD released from the Basie show. But I haven't seen any mention of it any where else. Probably just wishful thinkiing on his part.(and mine).

I didn't get to post this at the time, but I feel I should now. Hearing about Federici's death really, truly stunned and saddened me. I was at work the day it hit the papers, and before that, I had been in a pretty good mood.

After I read the news, that wasn't the case. I had to struggle to keep my chin up for the rest of the day. It felt as if someone had cut my heart-strings, and then punched me in the stomach.

The funny thing is, I didn't entirely expect to feel like this. Granted, when Danny took ill, I was certainly shocked, and hoped he would beat the illness. I guess the thing is, why Danny? What did that guy do to anyone that he was repaid with something like that? Danny Federici was a phenomenal keyboard player, to be sure - his piano on Incident on 57th Street (played alongside David Sancious) easily brings tears every time - but it was the guy's attitude that truly made him the coolest member of the E Street Band. Quiet, unassuming, but with a wonderfully devilish streak - how about assaulting a cop back in the Steel Mill days? - and a wonderfully approachable air to him... Danny should have been the last one to go.

I'll miss him. Already I've listened to a few records with him, and the sadness still hits.

Thanks for the music, Danny. Thanks for everything.

May 13 / The Stone Pony / Asbury Park, NJ
Notes: While the Magic tour is about to ramp up from arenas to stadiums, Bruce has been spending this break doing some serious downsizing -- last week it was the Count Basie Theatre, and last night it was all the way down to the Stone Pony. Bruce was back on the Pony stage for another school benefit on Tuesday night, once again backed by Bobby Bandiera's band (with horns), and joined by Southside Johnny and Patti Scialfa. By now we're familiar with the basics of the annual set-- classic covers like "634-5789," "Seven Nights to Rock," and "Twist and Shout" intermingling with houserockin' rave-ups from Bruce's own catalog -- this year clocking in at two hours and 20 minutes. "Hold On, I'm Coming" was a particular stand-out, with Bruce and Bobby doing their best Sam & Dave. Patti had a great turn on "It Takes Two," with Bobby shining on the guitar solo, and her vocal on "All I Have to Do is Dream" was another highlight. As for originals, "Girls in Their Summer Clothes" was added to the mix, and this private benefit for parents and teachers continues to bring out some otherwise oft-overlooked tracks. There was "Cover Me," "Rendezvous," "The Fever," "From Small Things," "Pink Cadillac," and an all-too-rare dip into the '92 songbook for "Man's Job." "Thunder Road" may not be a rarity, but try it played solo-electric in the intimate confines of the Pony -- ah, if only we all could -- as a small crowd sings along. Soundchecked but not played: "Sugar, Sugar," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg."

Setlist:
634-5789
Cadillac Ranch
Cover Me
Two Hearts
Spirit in the Night
Hold On, I'm Comin'
It Takes Two (w/ Patti)
Rendezvous
Girls in Their Summer Clothes
Seven Nights to Rock
Tell Him (w/ Patti)
Time Is on My Side (w/ Patti)
Waitin' on a Sunny Day
The Fever (w/ SSJ)
Talk to Me (w/ SSJ)
Darlington County
Fram Small Things
Man's Job
Pink Cadillac
All I Have to Do Is Dream (w/ Patti)
Detroit Medley
Tenth Avenue Freeze-out
Thunder Road
Glory Days
Twist & Shout

He's done these Rumson Country Day/Ranney School benefits at The Pony for several years.
Always with Bobby Bandiera and friends, never the ESB.

Little hype since they're private shows and the best that most can hope for is to be a fly on the (outside) wall...
