Yes I can.
Good evening  wherever the fuck you are MAssachusetts.(Bruce's words, not mine)Oh what a night. Just back from the show. I'll try to keep this brief. I've still got one more to go. But,first, the pre-game highlights. Meeting up with the wicked pissah himself and his lovely family. AS nice a guy as has been previously advertised. Nice to meet you and thanks for your assistance in my travels Peter. On to the show. On a night that was humid enough to make a mosquito sweat. Bruce pulled no punches. Going for broke from start to finish. I counted about 4-5 personal tour premiers...and I include the Magic tour in that. Highlights. Point Blank was a great gem to hear. I always loved that song. The encore which featured a guy holding a blow up doll with red hair. Guy was waving it around all night. I thiought it was for red headed woman. But Stevie grabbed it during the encore. Bruce commenting Steve had several of those at home. Turned out the doll had a red dress and devil horns. Cue Detroit Medley. ALso a very rare BITUSA with jay on dreums for the whole encore and going absolutely ballistic on this. It was a curfew obeying E Street Band tonight. Finishing just short of 11:00. Nothing else to say except night #2 me Ronnie  Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

E-mail   Print   (5) Comments   Text size   Share   Buzz up!OK Bruce, now you’re just showing off.

Seriously, man, on your sixth Boston-area gig in two years - tonight Springsteen and his rumblin’ E Street Band play their seventh area date, as the second of their two-night Comcast Center stand - you gotta play another wicked-powerful, near-three-hour show? Don’t you ever slow down?

The answer is no. The new albums may be notably lackluster, but the live shows are still killer.

Last summer at Gillette, it was joyous versions of “Little Latin Lupe Lu,” “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?” and a great “Spirit in the Night.” In April at the Garden, it was “Tenth Avenue Freeze Out” and a manic “Adam Raised a Cain.” Last night at the Comcast Center, he filled in anything he might have missed.

The Boss started slow with “Jackson Cage,” but he quickly pumped up the crowd. “She’s the One” had that E Street crescendo the fanatics love, “Working on the Highway” was turned into the dirty shuffle it’s always wanted to be, and “Hungry Heart,” well, if we you were part of that singalong, you can skip church tomorrow, because you were part of a sacred ritual.

After that there were some bumps. “Outlaw Pete” is getting better but still sounds like KISS’ “I Was Made for Lovin’ You,” and “Working on a Dream” is losing its shine.

The classic E Street warhorses - “Badlands,” “Johnny 99,” “Born to Run,” “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight” - were taut and loose and tight and messy all at once (just as the cult loves them).

The one-two punch of “Lonesome Day” and “The Rising” are working better than ever. And the request session, where Bruce pulls pleas out the audience, isn’t getting old. This time around, the highlights were “For You,” off his ’73 debut, and Jimmy Cliff’s “Trapped” - a fan favorite for decades.

Although wife Patti Scialfa was missing, as she was in April, the rest of the E Street crew was in excellent form. Sax man Clarence Clemons is showing his age but he’s still got it; drummer Max Weinberg thundered those skins like a kid - oh, and so did his kid, Jay, guesting on a few tunes, including “Devil With a Blue Dress.”

Springsteen can’t keep this up forever, Can he? No, no he can’t. So maybe we should indulge his showing off - and a few weak new songs.

Mansfield 1st show is up on dime already  - http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=263386

Cracking review in the thread though from one poor sod - sounds like someone got over-excited :

That may have been the best show I have ever seen.
With one setlist exception, I dont think Seeds works with this show.

The one drawback?   someone did diarhea in the seats near me, honest to god.
It was the most foul smelling thing any of us had ever smelled.  We have no idea who did it.   Yup, that is right....someone pooped diarhea in the seated area.  UNREAL.

Shit!  Puke all over me (wait that is BLEED)

Was a great show by The Boss last night in Mansfield.

Was terrific to hook up with SCL in the pahking lot.  He's a cool dude.
Thanks for making the effort SCL.  Only wish we had more time.
Great hearing from Lefty as well!

We had lawn seats for this show, as we did not know if we would make
it to this show or not.  Turned out the lawn was really cool both as a break
from the heat & from a show standpoint.  Sure, you are far away, however,
with the monitors showing different views, it was all good.

The Boss is always on when he's in Massachusetts (which he must have repeated
well over 20 times).  He's been coming here since the early 70's.  A real barnburnah
of a show, clicking on all cylinders for 98% of the night.   The only buzz kill for me was moving from a racuous Badlands to Working On A Dream.  He'd ended Badlands making one think he'd go right to Radio Nowhere with the "anybody alive" refrain, however to WOAD was cinder block time.  Outlaw Pete is fantastic, the video screen showing the US West is great.  You can tell Bruce really digs this song.  For You, Point Blank, Backstreets, TRAPPED were all stunning.  Hard Times was a shock, what a great tune.  Could have done without American Land, however that's just me.   My first ever time for Detroit Medley, as well as Rosalita, both jaw droppers.  My teenage daughter's first Boss show, she was impressed.  It was quite good to not hear any political ranting as well.

This was my first look at the lineup without Danny Federici.  I do like Giordano, however
on some numbers the organ was "high" or too prominent, kind of a roller-rink feel.   I never relaized this before, however, he's Dan Akyroyd without hair!  Jay Weinberg is a powerhouse, taking queues from The Boss effortlessly.  The two backup singers fleshed out the songs quite well, including one Cindy Mizell of Steel Wheels-Stones Fame.

Probably did not make much news, 'cept on the Bruce boards, however, there was a power problem
at the facility, where right up to about 30 min before the show, no juice!  I have a friend who works security who said there were "wires burning" back stage before the show, but they could not figure out the cause.  Twist & Shout was an add at the end, making a 3 hour show.

My summary is Bruce continues to be the best story in rock.
In 80% humidity, to go three hours strong without a break, then
do the same thing a day later, and play & sing so effortlessly
is nothing short of in-human.

Just back from night #2....Let the great debate begin. Or end as the case may be. The general rule of thumb is that the second night is almost always better than the first. I have seen some pretty cool night #2 shows in my time. A bit rare for me to actually catch back to back shows in the same city. Nobody's curing cancer here. But,it just seemd like last night was such a cooking hot show....on all levels. Tonight, wasn't bad. But it just seemed to be a bit more uneven then last night. The River was nice...as was Independence Day. My seat was even better, more towards the middle. But,man did they oversell the pit. Iwas only about 5 rows behind the pit. But by the time the show started, people were lined up in the aisle back to my row....Anyway,it's a bit like debating who your favorite child is. No wrong answer. I tought last night was a little better. But no regrets eitehr way. Met a whole bunch of cool Springsteen fans...and the wicked pissah himself.....barring any strange developments. Like Bruce rediscovering the west coast. This is probably it for me. Been a blast. I will live vicariously through those that still have shows coming up. Have fun Meg and anybody else going to a show....I have to say that any Springsteen show these days is still better than what the Stones can put on. Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

It sure is, but its also a site for music fans who happen to like the Stones' music very much. Cant understand why its so hard for some people to grasp that its possible to get great pleasure out of other forms of music as well.  The sense of outrage when this happens (and I see this on other boards too) is a bit talibanesque to me and somewhat baffling.

After all, it was Keith himself who said that the greatest epitaph a musician can have is that they 'passed it on' and inspired others. There's a lot of great music in the world, and existing in some form of musical vacuum strikes me as a bit odd.

Gazza it is no secret that you are a HUGE fan of Bruce Springsteen.
So imagine, if you will, reading the remark in question and substitute BON JOVI for Bruce Springsteen.

Stones fans defending the Stones on a Stones Board are "Talibanesque"?

Clearly there is nothing left to say.

Your outrage is misplaced.

Firstly, I never said Springsteen was better than the Stones. I didnt even mention him or compare the two. They're two separate and different acts. I get immense pleasure and enjoyment from both.

Secondly - after 47 shows including shows in 8 or 9 countries on their last tour, its not like I'm not a Stones fanatic. I've only seen Springsteen 29 times by comparison, although why I seem to feel I have to justify or prove that I'm also a Stones fan is a bit odd.

I'd have no problem with someone enjoying Bon Jovi or saying so. Each to their own. I'm sure they put on a great show for their fans - it's just not for me, personally but if someone goes to one of their shows and gets a huge kick out of it, good for them.

Defending the Stones isnt the issue - youve completely missed the point. Perfectly reasonable and valid point to say that your favourite act is 'better' than someone else's, even if there's no way of proving it other than personal taste.

The point is that feeling somewhat offended if someone says they enjoy a show by someone else or if they enjoy a show more by one act compared to another is absurd and infantile. Music is a personal thing and its all a matter of taste.

I see this all the time - not just for Bruce, but for U2, Dylan, AC DC, Neil Young - whoever happens to be playing live at that time. People get all uptight if someone dares enjoy it too much or even says something like "I wish the Stones could try this...". It's just silly.

And yeah, its Talibanesque - and while its not exclusive to Stones boards, its certainly more prevalent on them from what I can see.

Well then let me put on a Burkka.
Perhaps it's that SOME Stones Fans are just much more passionate than fans of other acts.
For me there is NO OTHER ACT THAT COMES CLOSE to the Stones.
Never has.
Never will.

Do I begrudge people from enjoying other Bands?
Absolutely not.

But I sure as Hell am going to defend MY band against a statement like that made by SCL, whom, imo, made the remark to cause JUST the stir you are reading here now.

Would I go on Backstreets and comment that The Rolling Stones are better than Bruce and ESB?
Never.
Why?
Because I find it to be in bad taste.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Well I'll put it another way.  I love the Stones. Yes I post on a Stones message board! Wink Grin
But I do not eat, drink, and sleep the Stones.   Never have and never will.  Same with Bruce, Bob, Jackie, Neil, OCMS, Emmylou, Leonard Cohen, Steve, the Killers, Van Morrison, and others too numerous to mention.  Music can be intensely personal and maybe some can only enjoy one band or one kind of music.  Concert experiences are very personal also and we all react differently and compare this show with the last ones we saw and yes we even compare other artists to the last Stones we saw.  Doesn't mean anyone loves the Stones any less. Doesn't mean we aren't anxious to see them one more time.  Just means we try to put things into perspective and yes broaden our horizons.  I worry what will happen to a lot of people  here when the Stones are no more.

It's OK, LJ.  It will all be OK.  I am sure SCL wouldn't miss the Stones in 2010-nor will Gazza or myself.

There are always Tribute Bands!  Roll EyesGrin Cool Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

'Bad taste' ?? Seriously? You dont think that description is a bit excessive? Its only a review of a concert, for Christ sake.. and yeah, I've seen people go on Springsteen boards and mention that they enjoyed seeing someone else more or whatever. Its really nothing worth getting worked up about.

And without wishing to sound pedantic Paula, they're no more or no less  SCL's 'band' as they are yours or mine. The levels of extreme or exclusivity any of us on liking any artist doesnt change that.

And yep, what Meggy says - we'll all be there waiting with bated breath next time there's a Stones tour anyway - with bells on.

PS - I didnt for one moment imply or say that you personally begrudged anyone enjoying other music.  Seen plenty of it elsewhere though from far less mature people.

I didn't mean the review of the concert. I'm happy they had a good time.

I feel it would be in bad taste for me to go to a Bruce Springsteen website and make the statement that "I have to say that any Stones show these days is still better than what Bruce and ESB can put on".  Them's fightin words.

me and a friend caught the 3rd show from abb tour in harford and then awhile after we saw csny and he got to saying he liked csny better....let me just say, i held my tounge and thought and respected his opinion even tho, maybe deep down inside, he was just trying to intentionally annoy me because he knows i am a stones fan.  i let it slide.  i have learned over the years not everyone out there love/likes the stones and i just pretty much don't care anymore.  even when i am riding in someone elses car and a stones tune comes on and they flip the station...hey, what are you gonna do.

Shit!

I didn't mean the review of the concert. I'm happy they had a good time.

I feel it would be in bad taste for me to go to a Bruce Springsteen website and make the statement that "I have to say that any Stones show these days is still better than what Bruce and ESB can put on".  Them's fightin words.

LJ.

Only if you are a red head who loves a good fight..

And I will go on record..Bruce's shows ARE on a whole different level performance wise than the last Rolling Stone concert I saw. But how do you make that statement and not end up with a black eye?!! Grin Grin

My FINAL post.

Why is this different than someone's car??? Or arguing with a friend in your living room?
Because this is where we are:

ROCKS OFF - The Rolling Stones Message Board

I'm done. I think everyone knows how I feel on this subject.
