By the way. Question for the Springsteen experts.I just heard a song called "Something You Got". A blistering, jamming song that sounds like it's an old british blues band playing it. Anybody know the story behind this song?

Cover version. Doesnt appear to be any record of Bruce having done a studio version, but it was performed live a few times between 1972 and its last known appearance in March 1974.

The info I have credits the songwriter as Chris Kenner, who, with a bit of research, was a New Orleans R&B singer (1929-76) who also wrote Wilson Pickett's classic "Land of 1,000 Dances" (which Bruce has also played live). "Something You Got" has also been covered by Chuck Jackson, Bobby Womack and others.

(oops...sorry..while I was researching that, Meg beat me to it)

Nah.
Factored in the price of gas - 15 minutes each way - and was looking at a $2K bite in the ass.

I just bought airfare & hotel for 5 nights in London for $2K! I wonder if Brucie will be there??? I'm going July 16-21...

I was actually "Joshing" initially but then that one idiot kept it going & you know I always hate to leave an argument. I am developing the ability as I gain wisdom though! I would see him if was in London when I'm there. I might be seeing Chuck Berry that weekend if I can talk my traveling companions into it but I have a feeling they'd rather take in other shows.

Well if you aren't boycotting, does that mean you want the Nassau DVD that I just downloaded or not??  It seems to be very good quality.. Wink

Last night's Count Basie Theatre show is up on Dime:

http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=195815&hit=1

Torrent: 195815
Title: Springsteen 2008-05-07 Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, NJ
Size: 832.07 MB

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
2008-05-07
Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank NJ

Description:

This historic Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band show features the Darkness on the Edge of Town and Born To Run albums in their entirety, plus encores. The band has never performed these albums in their entirety before.

The Count Basie Theatre holds about 1500 and this was the band's first performance in a venue this small in 30 years.

The show was a benefit to raise money to renovate the historic Count Basie Theatre; it raised $3 million, with auction ticket prices ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 per seat.

The recording sounds quite good for an audience recording from the back of the orchestra. There is some crowd clapping, yelling, singing along, and a little talking, but it's not too obnoxious. The band drowns out the audience during most songs. I'd rate it 8.5/10.

Disc 1 - Darkness on the Edge of Town

01 Intro - Rusty Young, Patti Scialfa, Brian Williams, Bruce Springsteen
02 Badlands
03 Adam Raised a Cain
04 Something in the Night
05 Candy's Room
06 Racing in the Street
07 The Promised Land
08 Factory
09 Streets of Fire
10 Prove It All Night
11 Darkness on the Edge of Town

Disc 2 - Born to Run

01 Bruce Intro
02 Thunder Road
03 Tenth Avenue Freeze-out
04 Night
05 Backstreets
06 Born to Run
07 She's the One
08 Meeting Across the River (w/ Mark Pender)
09 Jungleland

Disc 3- Encores

01 So Young and in Love
02 Kitty's Back
03 Rosalita
04 Raise Your Hand
05 Outro

Plus a couple of concert photos in .jpg format.

Lineage:
Orchestra 20' to the side of the soundboard
Zoom H2 Recorder (90 degree stereo 44.1kHz / 16 bit Stereo WAV) > AUdacity (Amplify 3 db) > CDWave (track split) > dbPoweramp (WAV > flac) > FastSum (md5)
No EQ or other file modification.

Like I said in the Chuck thread, these old guys arent gonna be around for ever. Worth doing it once. I went to see Liam Clancy tonight, and even at 72, he still sings like a bird.  Delighted I went. Absolutely marvellous.

“If you're gonna be in a band, you can't sit in the studio the whole time... I'd like to do more of the only thing I can do really well, apart from screwing." Keith Richards&&&&      “Basically the thing at the time you used to just try and find girls that would fuck. The rest of it was just..yer know. I mean , it wasn't quite as easy then as it is now. Since the invention of the pill, its become much easier." Mick Jagger&&&&“You can neither win nor lose if you don't run the race." David Bowie

I think as far as sound goes he was more of a Keef disciple than anything else.

Nils says it himself in 'Keith Don't Go (Ode To The Glimmer Twin)':

This is a right-away letter, I've got to mail it today
Straight to my main inspirer, says urgent from the USA
Its got this heart inside it, the postage is my soul
Contains a message from millions, says Keith don't go

10000 guitars wailin', but it ain't quite the same
You've got a knack for sailin', and it's stamped with your own brand name
We's all sailors, as captain you must know
You bring a message to millions, says Keith don't go

I said Keith don't go; Don't take my fun
Keith don't go; Keith don't go
We miss our father Jimi, it's hard to breathe with that loss
But I still got you brother, don't nail yourself to a cross
I watch you lead the pack, you put the drive into my soul
You bring a message to millions, says Keith don't go

Hey, Did you try to get into Red Bank?  Maybe you got it.  Seemed like on helluva show.
