Fact.

But instrumentation and tempo are two completely different things...

If the artist who wrote the songs decides to interpret said
songs in his way, I'd think he has that right.

Couple more from last night - direct from the in house video feed.

'Johnny 99'

'Mony Mony'

wtf is up with this guy?  bruce is making johnny 99 sound like a fucking pop song.  horrible.  he should perform it like he did during the live '75-'85 session.  a good true song and i love it but this version does NOT work for me.  he has lost his sentimental value and is cashing in all for the sake of fist pumping.  i wouldn't pay a jackson to see him, nor a hamilton.  now this guy is going to fly over the pond and charge you euros pay for that.....?

piss off

Wake up call - it's not 1985 anymore.

As you arent going to any shows, why the hell should it bother you so much?

First pumping, my arse. He's been reworking that song for a decade. If he was so bothered about cashing in, he'd have done an E Street Band tour every time out. (If you'd heard the seeger sessions version of it, you'd have had a tumour).

Works for me. Although the cajun-style version he did at Shea Stadium in 2003 beats the lot of them.

don't tell me what day it is mister.  it doesn't matter if i see a show or not i can watch it right here on u tube and get the jist of it.

you have no idea how much it costs to live along the jersy shore.  no idea.  that cocksucker has ...oh nevermind.

get a clue....all bruce shows are about standing up and fist pumping....thats how he makes tons of money........................3/4ths of it is all hype,  don't believe the hype gazza.   don't believe it maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan.  i can see you are going to pay good money to see the same show you saw last year.  to each his own i guess.

the version i was talking about is a bullshit version...............it sucks.  johnny 99 is ment to be played like keith richards played you got the silver in shine a light.

hey

Are you fucking serious?

Don't tell me to 'get a clue'.

As you havent seen him in concert for over 20 years, I'll obviously defer to your superior judgement as to what a Springsteen concert experience is all about. Even when I went to all those solo shows, I'm stunned by how I missed that it's so obvously all about 'fist pumping', whatever  that is.

And a song isn't 'meant' to be played in any fixed way - it's up to the artist to do what the hell he wants with it (which most fans seem happy enough with). Not someone on a message board who doesnt even go to the shows anyway and whose idea of a concert is watching a crappy clip on youtube.

Netherlands.

"Pinkpop" isn't the name of a place, it's just the name of the festival (it takes place on Pentecost weekend every year - hence the name, as Pinksteren is Dutch for Pentecost)

it's held in Landgraaf. The Stones have played the festival site before, although not the festival itself.

Gazza, their is a lot of pissing and moaning(like usual) on BTX about Bruce not allowing his set to be streamed live from Pinkpop yesterday. As well as speculation as to whether or not Landau and Co. will allow Bruce's show at Glastonbury to be shown live. What do you think?

Fans sing along at Springsteen concerts all over Europe. As they do with the Stones or any English-speaking artist they like. And pretty much everyone in Holland speaks very good English.

As it's been a huge surprise (and has pissed a lot of people off) that his UK visit this year is only two festival dates (one of which the tickets were sold for before he was officially announced as headliner - ie, Glasto) and one stand-alone concert (Glasgow), I would be absolutely amazed and pretty disgusted if they pull a stunt like that for Glastonbury, although some artists have done that in the past (Dylan, Cohen etc).  Last year he played to 220,000 people in the UK. This year the only shows his fanbase can buy tickets for were Hyde Park and Glasgow (under 100,000 tickets in total). The whole point of them finally agreeing to play festivals is to reach a new audience. Seems a bit idiotic to make a decision that would do exactly the opposite.

Yet, very few Americans bother to learn another language.   Recently, Spanish has been the slight exception.

Brits don't either, in fairness. A combination of an island mentality plus an arrogance that English-speakers have because of how widely spoken the language is. People in other countries put us all to shame. I remember phoning a friend of mine in Sweden a few years ago, and his daughter answered. Her English was so perfect she even spoke it with an accent which would have made you think she WAS English. After a 5 minute conversation in flawless English, she passed the phone to her dad - who amazed me by telling me that she was only nine years old. She'd picked up most of her ability to learn English by watching TV.

The ability of fans to appreciate the lyrics of someone who sings in a foreign language is something that is greatly under appreciated, I think.

Yes, it has - although you'll also find that more people will suddenly know a bit more English if you at least make the attempt to learn a few words in their language first. Going abroad and expecting the locals to speak your language doesn't tend to go down too well.

I think that Rest of the World has historically looked up to US (for its culture and former superpower status), and wanted to emulate all things American.  Speaking the same language as Americans was a large part of this emulation.

More recently, US has a become multicultural nation where English is not always the primary language.  With this change, American culture has also evolved.  Also, with US fighting two unpopular wars, the ROW has lost its fascination with it.

welsh has got to be one of the most difficult languages ever.  when i was there, up in anglsey [gogarth area] rock climbing several years ago some people would speak to me and i would be like, SAY WHAT?   SPEAK ENGLISH WILL YA.

it would be interesting to hear someone sing born to run in welsh.

  That was clever

Here's another video of "Thunder Road" that one of the Killer's fans shot. Brandon looks absolutely thrilled to be on stage with Bruce. Bruce watched their set from backstage.

Wow...two guys I love on stage together.

Yay! Tickets for BRUCE's last 3 shows at Giants Stadium went on sale today ~ the dates are Sept 30, Oct 2 & Oct 3. The 3rd is sold out but there are still a few tickets left for the other 2 shows! I got a single for the middle date, there were NO General Admission tickets left by the time I logged in, those sold out in seconds. After the politicians made such a big deal out of the TM scam last time BRUCE tickets went on sale, this time there was no automatic link to the higher-priced tickets. Cool. Something actually worked to improve the system!
