That's classic, Nelly!
It's about as close as I came to some of my son's college buddies talking trash near the end of the 2nd Qtr and they experienced my vintage 'Linda Blair' head turn!

You've never met me, but I can assure you my hair makes this distinctive whip sound when provoked and delivered correctly.

...just ask Nanky & TomL  Smiley

Bad voice?
Seriously, I did not get that there was an issue.
I only had one beer yesterday, honest!
You do not think it was in the same vein as Mick '78 on SNL bad, right?

Yes, as bad. Raspy as hell.

Yuh right. We all know there are those who will criticize everything the Stones do & there are those who will never criticize them. I've been to BTX & most of those people love EVERYTHING the "boss" does & would even bid on his used toilet tissue. To each his own, I guess.

Ticket buying process frustrates Springsteen fans
by Peggy McGlone/The Star-Ledger
Monday February 02, 2009, 6:27 PM

Quote:
Like many fans, Ann Marie Madiefsky was at her computer before 9 a.m. Monday, waiting for tickets for two Bruce Springsteen concerts at the Izod Center to go on sale.

And like many fans, Madiefsky came away empty. After 40 minutes -- and an error message stating the service was down "due to routine maintenance" -- Madiefsky was told Ticketmaster had no more tickets. She was re-directed to TicketsNow, the Ticketmaster-owned internet marketplace where hundreds of tickets were available for hundreds and, in some cases, thousands of dollars over the $65 and $95 prices.

"I'm livid," said Madiefsky, 42, of Marlboro, who has been to dozens of Springsteen shows over the last 20 years. "It's a horrible, frustrating experience every time he comes around. No one will stand up to Ticketmaster. Nobody is questioning how these people are getting these tickets."

Ticketmaster says the Boss' popularity -- and the fact tickets for the North American leg of his tour went on sale the morning after he performed at the Super Bowl halftime show -- created huge demand. Springsteen is going on the road to promote his latest album, "Working on a Dream," released last month. He will play the Izod Center in East Rutherford May 21 and 23.

About 30,000 tickets to the two Meadowlands concerts sold in about 65 minutes, according to the Izod Center. Capacity for each show is just over 20,000. About 5,000 tickets are held back for the band, promoter and record company.

Ticketmaster spokesman Albert Lopez said only a "teeny" number of fans received the error message that Madiefsky encountered. He said those fans would be contacted by the ticket service to try to "close the transaction" since many fans were in the middle of making a purchase when they encountered the error message.

Lopez also said no tickets were moved to TicketsNow in advance of the primary sale.

"We're under contract with the venue, promoter and talent to put the tickets on sale at a specific time and date," he said. "We're are contractually obligated to do that and that's why I can guarantee we don't hold back and plant tickets on Tickets Now.

"There are probably 150,000 Bruce Springsteen fans wanting to see the show on any given night, and they are all competing for tickets and it just can't happen," he said. "There are a limited number of tickets. This happens every time there is a band that is touring and they have a dedicated fan base."

Lopez said Ticketmaster customers are directed to the secondary marketplace, TicketsNow, as a courtesy.

"We were totally sold out, so we provide fans with an opportunity to look within the secondary market," he said. Lopez said tickets being sold on TicketsNow are not owned by Ticketmaster or by TicketsNow but by individuals or brokers. TicketsNow receives a percentage of the re-sale of each ticket.

A change in scalping laws has helped spark the internet ticket market. In New Jersey, there are no restrictions on the re-sale of tickets on the internet.

Still, the state Division of Consumer Affairs will look into complaints made by consumers yesterday.

"We're trying to ascertain what happened with this process," said Jeff Lamm, spokesman for Consumer Affairs. "People want to know that they had an opportunity to get the tickets and that there was a level playing field. We don't know until we look at what transpired.

But many fans insist the sale is rigged.

"I don't buy what they're telling me," Madiefsky said. "It's a lie."

I find the 5,000 tickets per show being held back far more scandalous. That's probably the entire lower level, seats that no one anywhere ever seems to pull up in the onsale.

Ticketmaster Admits Springsteen Sale “Wasn’t Our Finest Hour”

2/3/09, 4:37 pm EST

One week after Live Nation’s new ticket service left Phish fans screaming with rage, Ticketmaster’s computer system malfunctioned during a Bruce Springsteen onsale yesterday morning. Fans attempting to buy seats for Springsteen’s Working on a Dream shows in Long Island and New Jersey got error messages during the 9:00 AM sale. “It was an unfortunate computer glitch that happened on our side,” says Ticketmaster spokesperson Albert Lopez. “It wasn’t our finest hour. [The glitch] lasted minutes versus hours. As it was described to me it didn’t have anything to do with high demand. Ticketmaster.com’s network didn’t fail. This was for specific shows. Having said all that, that doesn’t take away from the heartache fans experienced.”

Despite Ticketmaster’s insistence the problem was isolated to three concerts, fans reported receiving the same error code for many East Coast shows. Fans attempting to buy tickets in the crucial early minutes of the onsale got a message saying the system was undergoing “routine maintenance.” Many fans who did manage to load tickets were unable to complete the transaction — though Lopez says that 95 percent of them have been contacted and Ticketmaster is working on completing their purchases when possible. Lopez says that 85 percent of the 200,000 Springsteen tickets sold yesterday came from Ticketmaster.com. Fans attempting to buy to the Nassau Coliseum today are directed to the Ticketmaster owned Ticketsnow.com resale site, that lists 697 tickets ranging up to $1,605 each.

The incident comes just days after Live Nation’s competing ticket service underwent its first significant test, as hordes of Phish fans hit the site to buy tickets to the band’s anxiously awaited comeback tour and experienced technical difficulties. A Live Nation spokesman told Rolling Stone, “At the moment of the onsale, there were 1 million people trying to buy tickets, and that overwhelmed the system for a minute.” Ironically, both Phish and Springsteen will headline 2009’s Bonnaroo Festival. Tickets for the fest go on sale February 7th.

TicketsNow has plenty of lower level tix.
At an inflated price, of course.

The fact that they're in bed with TM reeks of impropriety.

FEBRUARY 3, 2009, 9:54 P.M. ET

Live Nation, Ticketmaster May Merge

Deal Would Create New Powerhouse in the Music Industry

By ETHAN SMITH

Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. and Live Nation Inc. are close to a merger, people familiar with the matter said, in a deal that would consolidate two of the most powerful forces in the music industry under one roof.

The newly created company would be called Live Nation Ticketmaster, and would combine the world's biggest concert promoter with the world's dominant ticketing and artist-management company. The combined firm would be able to take advantage of close relationships with hundreds of major artists to find new ways to do business in the ailing music industry.

The boards of both companies have yet to approve any merger, these people said, and sticking points remain. One potential hitch: Because the merger would concentrate so much power in the music industry under one company it would require review by antitrust authorities. Nonetheless, the deal, which would not entail an exchange of cash, could be announced as early as next week.

Spokesmen for Live Nation and Ticketmaster did not respond to requests for comment.

The new company would have close ties with over 200 artists, thanks to Ticketmaster's acquisition last year of Front Line Management, a firm whose dozens of artist managers handle the affairs of around 200 major acts, including The Eagles, Miley Cyrus and Christina Aguilera. That transaction vaulted Front Line's veteran chief executive, Irving Azoff, to the helm of Ticketmaster.

Live Nation brings to the table close ties of its own to several major artists, including Madonna and Jay-Z, both of whom have signed far-reaching pacts that pay them hundreds of millions of dollars for a broad range of rights.

The structure of the new entity has not been nailed down, and it is not entirely clear, for instance, what titles would be held by Mr. Azoff and Live Nation Chief Executive Michael Rapino. Both men are expected to remain at the combined organization.
