'Abu!!' (Irish there for, well, 'WooHoo'!)

The Boss Back in 'Baile Atha Cliath' (Dublin) - what a weekend that will be^  And only one year after his last trio of RDS shows

Not to make you jealous Meg - regarding travelling to see 3 shows^ - the RDS is 3 minutes, quite literally, from my door^    Bruce playing in the backyard for 3 nights, it doesn't get better than that I say.

Roll on July - aswell as Brucie, we have AC/DC, Eagles and Rod Stewart that month, rock'n'roll month.  Yes..I know, Eagles & Rod considered a wee bit 'eh' by some, but by gum, I'm looking forward to 'em.

'Slainte'

Same happened to Jagger after he won the Golden Globe in 2005. Not even a nomination.

Ridiculous. Its a marvellous song, and beats the pants of 'Streets of philadelphia' for starters.

can only imagine what load of horseshit will win.

Yep..That was a real kick in the ass, I'd say.
My opinion Wink
Slumdog Millionaire  is a great great movie-deserving of the Academy Award-but those songs don't work as well as Bruce's does in "the Wrestler"..

ah well

Glad you had a great experience, Charlotte. Sure wouldn't mind hearing about it??!!!

While I agree that "The Wrestler" is indeed marvelous, "Streets Of Philadelphia" is a far more complex, lyrically superior, and more emotionally powerful song (imho). Having said that, I thought "The Wrestler" was a shoo-in for a nomination at the very least.

I thought Mick's song wasn't nominated because it wasn't done for that movie specifically. It had been written years before & was even shown(the lyric sheet) in Being Mick.

I don't think that its preexistence disqualified it. And it was released, if not precisely written for, the movie. In any case, it's becoming clearer with each year that the Globes are becoming a sort of mainstream alternative, if you will, to the increasingly insular Oscars...

I stopped watching the Oscars about 4 years ago. They just don't hold my interest like they used to. Too many good movies are overlooked.

No, it's ok, I'd read the reviews, and that was the song I wanted to hear.
Only once though, the wall has gone back up!
I dig the buildup...

Tour being announced, album out on Monday...think this weekend can't get any better if you're a Bruce fan?

Wrong.....

Springsteen announces forthcoming reissue
Friday, January 23, 2009
BY RAY WADDELL
NorthJersey.com
BILLBOARD.COM

Bruce Springsteen is about to release a new album and play the Super Bowl XLIII halftime show, but there's another project in the works that will be received joyously by fans: a deluxe reissue of 1978's "Darkness on the Edge of Town" that will be similar to the 2005 30th-anniversary boxed set treatment of "Born to Run."

The "Darkness" package "would involve remastering that record, doing the kind of super-creative reconstruction and documentary of how it all came about and finding usable live footage from that point in time," says Springsteen manager Jon Landau. "That's a big one, and not that far from completion, and when we can find six weeks to sit down and finish it, I'm sure we will."

"Born to Run" included a Grammy-winning documentary about its creation and a 1975 concert from London. It was a huge hit with fans, debuting at No. 18 on The Billboard 200 with first-week sales of more than 53,000 copies.

One endeavor dividing Springsteen devotees down the middle is the Wal-Mart exclusive "Greatest Hits" album, which went on sale Jan. 13. Landau protects Springsteen's image fiercely and the controversy surrounding the deal did not escape his attention.

"I know these discussions happen online and elsewhere, and I don't want to get bogged down in them, but let's start with the premise that Bruce is already in Wal-Mart," Landau says. "Wal-Mart has been 15 percent of our sales in recent years. It's not a question of going into Wal-Mart; we're there. They, and other retailers, are all looking for some way to differentiate themselves and we try to accommodate each one."

Besides, Landau adds, "We're not doing any advertising for Wal-Mart. We haven't endorsed Wal-Mart or anybody else. We're letting Sony do its job making sure the record is well-presented in as many places as possible."

Springsteen and the E Street Band will return to the road this summer, with a handful of European stadium dates having been announced so far.
