For Meg and Lefty...Yeah we KNOW we saw a killer show...But I guess this makes it semi-official...At least by Nashville standards(such as they are).

Best Arena Rock Show
Bruce Springsteen at Sommet Center
Convincing yourself to drop serious scratch on an arena rock show can be an understandably tough sell. Long lines followed by more long lines, the uncomfortable seating/standing area, the drunken idiot who keeps spilling beer on you—and just where the hell are you going to find a parking spot? While those obstacles somewhat undermined enthusiasm for Bruce Springsteen's Sommet Center appearance in August, the Boss' allure was enough to convince most to overrule their better judgment. And for those who dared, no amount of sore feet from hours of standing or uncomfortably packed crowds could take away from Springsteen's charisma. A special performer who can transform a concert in front of several thousand people into an intimate experience, Springsteen showed that he still hasn't slowed down, and he's still just as vital a figure in American rock 'n' roll as he's ever been. —MATT SULLIVAN

Here is one of my favourite stories in the book:

Lawrence Kirsch has published "For You," a book of fans' stories regarding their experiences with Bruce Springsteen and his music, memories of concerts and hours spent listening to particular records. Accompanied by hundreds of photos, the stories hit on the typical facets of fanaticism - the quest for connection, the pinpoint clear recollections of first-time experiences and the life-enriching quality of poignant songs. Only 2,000 copies of the book have been printed.
Having read just a small sampling of the stories, naturally the stories involving mortality were the most moving, like this one from Roy Opochinski of Toms River, N.J.:

"Your 21st birthday is supposed to be a memorable one. I spent mine working at my summer job as a ride manager in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. At its beginning, the day was nondescript.

And then Bruce Springsteen arrived. He entered the amusement park with his family, unnoticed by the crowd. Because there was no security at that hour of the day, it was the job of the ride managers to shadow him and ensure he was not bothered. I did this at a distance until he called me over. Turns out a fellow manager told him that I was a huge fan and it was my 21st birthday. Bruce was incredibly engaging. We spoke while his kids went on several rides and his kindness was overwhelming.

At one point, he and the kids rode the railroad, which my best friend Anthony was piloting. Anthony was a huge fan as well, and even convinced Bruce to let one of his kids ride up in front on the engine. I still remember Anthony's smile as he pulled out of the station. He even extended the ride by an additional loop of the park. I couldn’t be upset at this breach of protocol. How often does Bruce Springsteen ride on your train?

Several years later, Anthony was diagnosed with brain cancer, and within 18 months of his diagnosis, we lost him. But a few days before he passed, during one of our last conversations, he looked at me, lucid for the first time in a long time, and said, “Can you believe we met Bruce Springsteen?”

Spending a few moments with my musical hero was something I will cherish for the rest of my days. It was something Anthony certainly did."

From backstreets:

A NIGHT WITH THE JERSEY DEVIL
Dear Friends and Fans,

If you grew up in central or south Jersey, you grew up with the "Jersey Devil." Here's a little musical Halloween treat. Have fun!

HALLOWEEN
To our friends and neighbors:

So as not to inconvenience you this Halloween, due to "catastrophic success" (read: too many visitors for the neighborhood to handle) and concern for the safety of kids and parents! we won't be having our usual Halloween display this year in Rumson.

We wish everyone a safe and Happy Halloween!

Thanks,
Bruce and Patti

looks like your birthday wish is coming true, SCL

According to a Belgian radio station (who correctly announced the details of the last record) new album supposedly out January 20th (inauguration day!) called "Working on a dream" - 12 new 'rock' songs recorded in a couple of weeks at Brendan O'Brien's studio just after the end of the 'Magic' tour.

European and US dates to follow shortly afterwards, apparently.

European leg "to be finished by April" according to a usually reliable source. Another rumour has it starting February 7th (ie a few days after the Superbowl), so I'd imagine the US leg would be from around May onwards.

Dylan and Bruce BOTH in Europe in the spring. Looks like I'll be living in a box by the summer.....

HEY, DIDJA HEAR THE ONE ABOUT...
Bruce plays three-song, two-joke set at NY Comedy Festival last night
The day after the first Tuesday in November, and Bruce Springsteen was back on stage -- not for another political event, but to honor our soldiers and veterans. Springsteen returned for the second annual Stand Up for Heroes benefit, raising money for the Bob Woodruff Family Fund to help wounded soldiers. At the beginning of the night, Bob and Lee Woodruff stated that this was not intended as a celebration of the results of the election, and that set the tone for the evening. Without a word about the election, Springsteen performed three songs solo acoustic, joined by Patti Scialfa on vocals for "Thunder Road," and tipped his hat to the veterans in the audience at both the beginning and end of his set.

Acknowledging that he was the only musician on the bill for this New York Comedy Festival event, he got into the spirit of the show with a couple of jokes between songs. He said that the only jokes he knows are the ones the band tells him on the bus. And the two that he told -- variations on this one and this one -- were old enough that he probably heard them in the days when the band actually travelled by bus.

After his set, they once again auctioned off one of his motorcycles, a 1994 Harley Davidson Dyna Wide Glide, which Springsteen rode onto the stage with the engine running. After he threw in his leather jacket, it went for $70,000. The guitar Bruce played during his set was auctioned as well, bringing in an additional $50,000 for the cause.(From Backstreets.com)

Seems the new single "Working on a Dream" will be premiered on Sunday Night Football, NBC next week at 8:15 PM.  The quote from those who heard it:  " and next week we'll have the world premier of Springsteen's new song 'working on a dream' set to NFL highlights at halftime at next week's game"

Saw that a few days ago. If it is, its either the 1st NA show or else that leg is starting pretty early as the inside info suggests Europe Feb/March and North America April/May.

I've heard Dublin for February.

Reported start date of Feb 7 in Spain.
15-18 shows in Europe and the same in NA.

That arena in Halifax holds 10K, same as many of the venues that were listed on the "cancelled" Fall Tour.
