some gossip

Bruce's son is a freshman at Boston college, and my friends daughter and Bruce's son have hooked up. Parents weekend is coming up and 5 kids with their parents are going out for dinner. So my friend who is a successful businessman asked if he should make reservations at a nice restaurant, and his daughter said no, Mr Springsteen has already taken care of this. Its cool that Bruce wants to be a normal parent just have his son be treated as a regular student out of the limelight.

This was posted on Nils web site  http://www.nilslofgren.com/NotesDates07.html:

Sept 27, 2008

Hello everyone,  hope you're all in good health and spirits!
We've had a lot of you download the free "Yankee Stadium" song written by Amy and I  (it was her idea and chorus). Check it out and please spread the word for us. It's an inspired piece and it was great to have the Phoenix Boys Choir sing with me on it.
I've asked Linda to post a new "harmonic minor scale", first position, for all you beginner guitar school members (free). Thanks so much for your interest and patience. I'll have more lessons coming near the end of October I hope.  Sorry for the delay. I've been preoccupied with other issues and I'll explain.
Due to a long, beautiful life on the road (40 years) that's included back flips with guitars, dive rolls, leaping off drum risers and trying to break stage floors with pounding legs due to the amazing energy I gratefully continue to get from you, the audience, in addition to thousands of hours playing aggressive basketball, (my favorite sport to play) on mostly cement, city courts, I have finally destroyed both of my hips and they are both bone on bone with no cartilage left. Thus , I am headed to NYC with my fabulous wife Amy to have bi-lateral hip relacement this Tuesday, Sept. 30th (both hips completely replaced).  Although I am understandably nervous, it is a hugely successful surgery and I have a great surgeon in a great hospital so I should come through it fine. We certainly would welcome your prayers and positive thoughts and will keep you posted. Amy's offered to work with Linda in getting updates of progress to you as I go through this. God willing, it will all go well and I'll recover completely. I hope to be back home in AZ. to continue rehabbing by late October and start more guitar lessons and writing. If all goes well, I hope I can start doing my acoustic show touring by early Spring. Anyway, right now I'm just focusing on the immediate future and would welcome your kind thoughts and prayers.
You have all been an incredible source of inspiration and hope and have helped keep the musical  and life journey real. Amy and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts and will be in touch soon with updates. Until then, God bless you all!

                                 Peace and Believe  -  Nils

The rumours were true, then - the good thing is that they came from the same source who also indicated a new album early in 2009 and an ESB tour in the summer.

Find it hard to comprehend that a man whose hips are obviously bollocksed would still persist in undertaking all those spins and flips that he did this summer.

* Edit - the same guy also stated that Bruce would play the Superbowl around the time the new album was due to come out. The Superbowl appearance was confirmed today (29/9)

Well, what is in his favor is that he is in good physical shape.
And I guess if you have enough "painkillers" in your system, you can do just about anything.  For example, I recall my friend Peggy(QueenofUnderground) with both of her arms held high up in the air and pumping at a Stones concert with a completely torn rotator cuff!! Wink Grin

i think it is great bruce is going to play the halftime show...its an obvious choice and a good one.  i bet they will allow him a bit longer of a time to play.  they guy has no songs shorter than 5 minutes....maybe 1 or 2.  this should be interesting.

Eh? What Bruce Springsteen is this - the 1973 version?

His last album had 12 songs and clocked in at under 48 minutes. The longest was 5:20 with the next two being around 4:30

Most of his most famous songs are all 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 minutes tops.

Born To Run, Thunder Road, Badlands, Dancing In The Dark, Glory Days, My Hometown, Hungry Heart, The Rising are all under 5 minutes, and many of them less than 4.

He'll get the same timeslot that the Stones, U2 and everyone else did. The half time act is only a sideshow.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN: Album in January

We have confirmed that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are recording a new album and that it will be released in the new year, prior to the band playing halftime at the Super Bowl on February 1st in Tampa, Florida. Brendan O'Brien, who produced The Rising and Magic for Bruce, has been behind the board at sessions in his Southern Tracks studio in Atlanta and Springsteen's Thrill Hill studio in New Jersey. While O'Brien would not confirm for us that Springsteen is recording, he did tell us that Bruce is "on an amazing creative roll right now." As we understand it, Springsteen plans to follow the album with a tour in the spring.

oh, i believe you but put the guy on a stage with the rest of them and he gets all long winded.  i think whatever 3 songs he does they're gonna be cut short.  whatever, it doesn't matter.

i am wondering what 3 songs he will play.  i think born in the usa will be one of them....its just got to be.  factory ....perhaps?  and then........i'm a rocker.

Born to Run.
Glory Days.
Dancing in the Dark.
The Rising.

In to particular order.  Looks like we will still have to wait for the 2007-09 debut of NYC Seranade.

'Factory' ??? LOL...yeah, that'll get them bouncing in the aisles.

he has 12 minutes or so - its not his own show (or audience) where he can pad it out. He's not going to have time to talk (and he hasnt done that storytelling routine for years at E Street Band shows)

Three songs, in and out. If he has a new album out, he'll use the show as an opportunity to plug one from that. They wont cut anything. The whole thing is rehearsed and timed almost to the second.

As for the other two songs - one song from Born In The USA plus either Born to Run or Badlands.

Personally, I'm hoping for 'Reno'....

they have since banned dancing in aisles [at stadiums and arenas]  here in the usa g. last time i did this was during the stones show at rensseler field, conn. and i was asked to go back to my seat and oh yeah to distinguish that cigarette, even tho it was an outdoor venue.  i believe there will be none of that.  they will peg you as a rowdy drunk and probably escort you from the building.

no talking?  now thats funny............i find that hard to believe

anyway, as i said, i think its a great choice to have the boos play the halftime superbowl.
