Title: The end of IORR dot org (at least in its current form)
Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Jan 3rd, 2024 at 12:00am

Apparently the owner of iorr dot org has very much taken to heart the
fact that he was left on the outside looking in after traveling so far to
attend the recent Stones Gaga club gig in NYC...

"Within the next few months, I need to outsource most of my workload...
I need to find Stones fans I trust, who would be interested in working with
the next generation IORR, first of all the New Forum... There are plenty of
Forum solutions available as cloud services. They cost a lot, but I am sure
there are ways to fund them, either by donations or by advertisements..."

WOWZERS!
That is some post...I am rather impressed that BV feels responsible enough to make this announcement like that.
I sure hope it doesn't go the way of Shidoobee, with the last 2 server / service changes....
I love those guys, StonesDoug is a personal friend, but
that sight is un-navigable and not intuitive at all.
Let alone I can never sign in properly, lol

I talk alot of smack about those "maniacs on IORR".
But it makes me sad that that portal, in its present state, may go away in the near future.

Congrats to BV for the years of running IORR strictly out of his passion
and love for the Rolling Stones, and on his own dime (or whatever they use in Norway)
I wish I was as passionate about anything as much as he is about the RS/IORR.
GL IORRers!

If they didn't copy every post 60 times in a thread the band width would not be so expensive.  Just saying...

BV made his statement on Jan 1

On Jan 3 the Stones tweeted...

"2024! No time to stop"
...accompanied by an excellent live version of "Don't Stop"

It doesn't take much imagination to think that Stones-dot-biz was giving
the Norwegian a nod. But certainly nothing like what a few of the IORRaqis
are calling for...

"Some of the band members, or at least some of their entourage, must
be reading here... Can't they organize something special for you, like
dinner with the band... After all you have done for them, and for their
fans, I think they owe you something..."

During the band's first 60 years, I would have placed the odds of them
doing something special for BV at zero point zero percent.

But in this new Hackneyed era, I don't think its at all out of the
question...

So, why the hell not predict something? I predict that the Stones will
surprise nearly everybody and break character and actually do something
special for the guy. And that it will be enough for him to reverse himself
and keep the site going essentially as is, while attending every show on
the 2024 tour, in the pit with his camera as usual

We were already online before IORR and Shidoobee existed. We saw their birth and growth, both forums are great. Some of our members left to go there and will not return, some are on more than one forum, even all three.

We have been very tolerant since we started, because we think that there are all types of fans and they all fit, we know that some left precisely because of our tolerance.

Please listen this (Steve Marriott of Humble Pie singing):

Are you a rolling stone?

I am sure that being a rolling stone and being a rolling stones' fan is different, and here you can be both!!!!

I think the New Era is definitely not fan friendly -
Events and gigs full of flown - in influencers with hardly a fan in sight are a sign that they even at this late stage they don't give a flying f**k.  I'm pretty sure that their manager is a control freak of the worst kind , but what do I know ?

Do you think BV is quitting because he didn't get a VIP ticket into the Racket club show? That's severe! I wonder if he went there with a promise or a hope.

I think of IORR as a European site, and Shidoobee as an American site. Rocks Off is international.

Title: Re: The end of IORR dot org (at least in its current form)

Interesting theory about BV not getting into The Racket. But I think he's missed out elsewhere in the past. Don't quote me though I'm not an expert on how many gigs he's been at, though I'm sure the number is staggering. Also, from what I can tell he's not really close to the band either like maybe Bill German was. Again another opinion of mine for what it's worth. I think BV is just a super huge fan that doesn't ask for anything, just enjoying The Stones.

Did that actually happen???
Need a fact checker on that...
If he was there, did he get in but just not with VIP status?
This is all unclear to me...but more so, I really dont care. It's doesn't/didnt affect me....now I'm just curious.

Anyway, he explains exactly why he needs to drop his hobby/passion.
He's not stopping being a Stones fan, just stepping down as a moderator/admin for a fan site.[

If the site does go away, I hope all those maniacs learn how to use GOOGLE...97% of their questions can be answered by a simple search, smh
As stated previously...I also hope they learn how not to simply "quote" a huge chain/thread just to address one tiny point of the discussion at hand.

You're too kind. Likewise.

I hope he finds someone to help him out with the admin.  The unfortunate thing about all the congratulatory posts on that thread was that (unless I missed it) I didn't notice a single one offering to help with the workload.  Hopefully thats because some people have done so privately.  Its a lot of hassle for one person

Gazza, you're right about nobody offering to lend a hand to BV, myself included I'm sorry to say. I'm not interested in computer stuff let alone moderating everyone's comments. I would however agree to a monthly or yearly subscription. I've paid for much less in my life. Cheers!

tbh to me it seems like they're all taking a break, there haven't really been many posts there lately idk, maybe users refrain from posting too much out of respect for BV so he hasn't got to sort out so much idk, it's been pretty lame there lately... but so it actually has in the entire Stones world, you wouldn't believe there's a tour starting in 2 months, neither Mick or Keith has made a single fucking Stones/tour related post all year so far on their socials, makes me wonder wtf is going on...hopefully the calm before the storm...

To be honest, I think IORR should simply fold.
I dont mean that in a bad way, really.

If someone really really really really wants to keep it going, they should simply start a new fan board and not mess it up.
Simply point everyone currently on IORR, here, Shidoobee to join and celebrate all things Rolling Stones in a new style and location.

Every fan sight is its own flavor....and those maniacs currently on IORR will only complain when "things aren't the same since BV retired",
"BV would never do that", "BV would never allow that", <insert your own whiny-assed complaint here> if someone simply takes it over.

There is obviously a built-in audience and if it's brand new, it would be more inviting to others, IMO.

I know it takes time, money and a strong desire and passion, but saying "THANK YOU BV / wish I could help, blah, blah, blah" isn't really gonna cut it, is it?

Pull the life support, pull the sheets up, lay it to rest and start a new site for the 2020's and beyond.
The touring band wont last for much longer (blasphemy!) and its members are closer to permanent retirement than not.
If there is honest interest, it would flourish accordingly.

Sure IORR has some wonky rules but I got a lot of it through many years. Used to be great people on there with interesting information and stories. I'm not so quick to cut my losses. But hopefully there's a place (maybe here) where we all meet up. Plus i think we need to add the fact some posters have passed or lost interest. I believe that's impacted the fan world more than we might realize. My two cents for what it's worth.

totally agree with frankenstone...fan communities are obviously carried by the people who participate and if people move on due to whatever reason and don't engage anymore, then obviously those communities change and probably break apart at worst...have seen this happening with other fan communities I've been a part of myself over the past 10 years, it's always sad when it comes to a point when the engagement just stops because people lose interest or whatever, I've definitely met some great people because of online band or book communities...

Yeah. The ridiculous thing is when he tossed me he said that he only allows members he invites. Was I on a trial period and then he didn't like what I had to say so he dropped me and decided that it wasn't worth allowing me on??? I have been able to find my username and found that my posts are still there -- a sign that I did not deserve to lose posting access AND be denied another chance.
I did not deserve my ban but he doesn't care. It's not just iorr where I have run into the issue of being banned for stupid reasons. Does he only like people who have concert stories to share??

Neverbeenbutshould21, I have no answer why you got banned. After all these years I'm not sure how I made it sometimes myself. I pushed my luck a few times. In my opinion BV is flexible though he has some strict rules. For the most part I think he's done a great job. Plus I like the way it's sectioned by topics. Hot Stuff is great.
