Title: New lyric video disrespects Hackney Diamonds
Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Nov 14th, 2023 at 2:57am

New lyric video disrespects Hackney Diamonds

I don't know how else to phrase it

Instead of the Stones putting a bit of effort into promoting "Mess It Up"
or another of the new tracks, its back to business-as-usual with them
instead tarting up a classic track with (costly) imaginative visuals...

(So perhaps its time I admit that that's exactly how I feel. That as of
now only "Angry" and "Sweet Sounds" have given me any kind of
buzz whatsoever. I'm glad the album sold well and I'm glad y'all seem
to be enjoying it but, well, hopefully, like with "Satanic" and "Steel
Wheels"
, I'll eventually understand the appeal. In the meantime, for
me, its back to the "Fully Finished Outtakes")

Personally, I just never watch those lyric vids anyway and don't even notice when they publish a new one. Seeing that there will be a remix of Mess It Up on Friday, I don't see how putting out a lyrics vid for Beast of Burden now is disrespecting the marketing of HD, they have enough time to hype that Mess It Up remix by the end of the week, but frankly, seeing that it's just some dumb remix by some DJ who probably is defiguring the original song, I couldn't care less...

I just actually finally want the tour announcement and a date for when the new docu is gonna be published, that's what matters most

No need to apologize...I just wanted to make sure your post was read in the correct thread...I also didn't realize that you were addressing RW's post.

It's all good...

Well, how about that, they are promoting "Mess It Up"

(It will be interesting to watch the view-count horse race between the
two new lyric videos, classic versus new)

Its interesting (and intentional) that these two most recent lyric videos
have the exact same theme...

"I'll never be your beast of burden..."

"You really want to hear the truth? Sorry, I ain't gonna
wreck things just for you"

...and I guess that's about as much of an artist's statement as we're gonna
get this time around. No challenging music, no harsh truths. Purely an
easy listening version of the Rolling Stones.

Not my cup of tea, but the fan base's vote is clear: "Do not challenge us
in any way!"
So the Stones I can understand had no choice in the
matter. The fans held a gun to their head and said "Give us easy
listening, or else!"
Just like in 1967 when the fans insisted on Beatles
music from them

Don't get me wrong, I'm not angry, I'm philosophical. Rolling Stones Lite
is far better than no Rolling Stones at all.

So it is therefore amusing to me that it is only now, in the visuals for
a throwaway lyric video for a disco trifle, that there is any reference at
all to our deepening cultural crisis. But even then these references are
kept essentially undercover, and strictly in the historical realm,
so as to not upset delicate stomachs...

So, only if you are one of the ones whose stomach can take it, here
are some of those references:

I don't necessarily think they gave us "easy listening" because most of us don't want anything more than that but I rather guess some of the more shallow lyrics like Mess It Up are due to the fact that Mick, as he said so himself, had to write like 25 song texts (that's why he couldn't also write new blues lyrics and why we ultimately got the cover of Rolling Stone Blues)...I think it's kinda weird that Mick only started writing lyrics once they were in the studio, I mean he literally had years...

In other words, don't stop !

(which happens to be their brand new lyric video)

P.S. On the tour, I bet they play "beast of burden" more than
"mess it up"

A lyric video without 75% of the lyrics, that's different.
So shame on me, I was about to conclude that
Hackney Diamonds was a bit lacking in creativity.
