Hope I'm wrong...but wasn't one of those MSG shows an HBO special...was it the one with the horrible direction and the oversaturated dissolving F/X at the end of each song??

The camera angles, special f/x made it unwatchable at times...

I didn't watch that but on the 4DVDs box "Four Flicks" the MSG show has the option "select a stone" so probably that HBO Special was a bad mix of selections

OK, then that would be the version re-edited for repeat broadcast.  The live event was, well, live-shot.  The editing choices made on the fly were better than the second-guess edits in the re-edit.  So we can only hope that the third-guess version on the blu-ray is a smarter edit, without the dissolves to stills.  Those stills were thrown in to cover what the makers felt were "boring" inter-song stage business.

The HBO special was my first ever Stones show, so I'm happy to see this one get a rerelease even if I've had the full soundboard for years. Hopefully they restore the three missing tracks and beef up the sound a bit. It was an excellent show where the band was on point.

For the record, this show was previously released as part of 'Four Flicks' in November 2003, which was available on DVD (but NOT Blu-ray) and has since been deleted. Thats the excuse for re-issuing it, I suppose. It included 17 of the 21 songs played on 18th January, so assuming they release the full show this time, the extra songs are Start Me Up, Tumbling Dice, Gimme Shelter and Sympathy For The Devil.

10 of the 21 songs were released on the 'Live Licks' CD (Nov 2004) plus 'If You Cant Rock Me' ('Live Licks' (Japan bonus track) and 'Thru & Thru' ('Rarities')

'Tumbling Dice' and 'Sympathy' are the only songs from this show that have so far not been released on DVD or CD.

I blame you for getting me confused.  ;D  This was my first ever stadium show in the US and my first experience of a tailgate party and you were a very 'generous' host, to put it mildly!  Hard to believe thats coming on 20 years ago!

the Amsterdam bonus songs make for a bit of an interesting choice as the second show scheduled for the next day (20th August) got postponed for four weeks as Mick came down with a sore throat or flu (can't remember which). I had tickets for the two Twickenham shows that followed that (23/24 August) and they postponed the first night for the same reason (unfortunately I couldnt make the rescheduled date. Nine shows in 23 days from 24 August to 15 September plus multiple flights left me needing open wallet surgery!)

His doctor clearly must have had a chat with him about the fragility of his vocal cords, because in the 19 years since, the Stones have never again played concerts on back to back nights.  (another two night stand at Wembley Arena a few weeks later saw the first night brought forward 24 hours)

Is combo Blu Ray and colored vinyl an option?

Seemingly not. Blu ray only seems to come as a package with the 2-CD.

We went to this HBO show.  I remember Scope in the bar, though I didn't know him at that point.  Met Nanky and Tom in the arena.  Crazy, almost 20 years.

There were people smoking weed in our face (long before legalization), drunk guys from behind spilled beer on us, people in front of us sucking face, almost a lap dance, it was a riot!
