I am so tempted to see what those maniacs on IORR are saying...they have been surmising, guessing, estimating dates and cities for weeks now...but the arguments have moved from Dates/venues to to COVID and all that...

Everyone on that board seems to be a certified doctor with Virology as a specialty as well as a side line of a booking agent with expertise on set breakdown and setup as well as an NFL insider...just have to laugh at it all

It's Monday bitches...

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, 74, has just bought himself a new home in London. I bet the neighbours’ curtains have been twitching. “I saw Mick [Jagger] here last week and Rod [Stewart] and Kenney [Jones] were here yesterday,” Wood enthuses. He is talking to me on Zoom from an art-filled room in his new place in Little Venice, west London. Upstairs is for painting. Downstairs he has set up a recording studio.

“Me and Mick have done nine new tracks for the [40th anniversary] re-release of [the Rolling Stones album] Tattoo You. And me, Rod and Kenney [the only surviving original members of Wood’s pre-Rolling Stones band the Faces] have been recording some new Faces music.”

The roof in Atlanta is wide open Ronnie...

" I will be on tour next summer, because it will be 60 years since they played their first show July 12, 1962 in London. They have booked dates in Europe next year. It makes sense to do something in London on their 60th anniversary. Also, if they need, they may do other locations.

The US dates are in the hands of the pandemic. It would be a high risk operation to tour US this fall, we will see what risk they are willing to take, economically as well as health wise, both for themselves and their fans.

A bit surprised they went ahead with the shows in 2021 with the relatively low vaccine take up in the US. At least you'll have no overseas fans to compete with for tickets!

I guess this suggests a Euro tour next summer for the 60th anniversary.

Mask mandate back in the city of Atlanta starting today. I don't know if we can pull this off. The numbers are rising of this new variant that destroyed India.
We will need some major setlist changes due to the cancel/covid culture.

Gonna have to shut it all down soon...

Time to start talking refunds...

Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards has temporarily reinstated Louisiana’s statewide mask mandate indoors for all people age five and older as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to rise across Louisiana, threatening the ability of Louisiana’s hospitals to deliver care during this fourth surge of COVID. Louisiana is currently in the worst surge of the COVID-19 pandemic so far in terms of case growth rate, percent positivity and hospitalizations.

If this really happens, it will be the second time the Stones play without Charlie since he joined the band in January 1963. The first was on the Stu tribute show at the 100 Club in 1986 and it was only for a few minutes as Charlie was late, the drummer with the stones was Simon Kirke (Free/Bad Co.)

ROLLING Stones drummer Charlie Watts has had to pull out of the band’s US tour after having an emergency op.

The 80-year-old legend had a “successful procedure” in London after a problem was found during a routine check-up.

I am not doubting that this is true, but the article definitely sounds dodgy, or the quotes attributed to him sound like they were written by a publicist or someone in their office. When would Charlie Watts every say this:

“For once, my timing has been a little off.”

That sounds completely unlike him. The rest of the article sounds similarly shite.

Oh man!  :( Great that Charlie's OK of course! Thank God for those pre-tour check-ups.

But what a hell of a year this one has been AS WELL.

I'll start to really believe the theory we jumped into a hellish parallel universe when Bowie died, because things have just been a rotting piece of junk since then.

Sorry for the fans who'll miss him on the tour, hope he can return soon enough!

Of course its true. He's issued a statement - with his trademark wit - through the band's publicist.  Its now on all of the Stones official social media channels and each of his 3 band mates as well as Steve Jordan have put out statements

All a bit of a shocker, although thankfully the headline about 'emergency surgery' makes things a bit more dramatic than the statement suggests. Procedure completely successful and he seems in good spirits. Thats the main thing.

Also interesting that the band's official statement that he is 'unlikely to be available for the resumption of the ..tour' and Steve Jordan's comment that he'll be happy 'to give up my seat on the drum riser as soon as Charlie tells me he is good to go' would suggest that there might be a chance he could play some of the shows, although how practical that would be with minimal rehearsal I'm not so sure.

Sadly another reminder - as if we need it - how fragile things are with the Stones at this stage of their careers

Get well soon, Charlie!

he missed a show in March 1964. The Stones had a week off before a show scheduled in Chatham, Kent and Charlie missed it as he was delayed getting home from a short holiday (presumably from the continent) due to bad weather. Mickey Waller (later of the Jeff Beck Group, and who had previously replaced Carlo Little in Cyril Davies' band a year earlier) filled in

If it was a permanent move, I'd agree - but it isn't.

They had gone to a lot of trouble to reschedule shows after an 18 month postponement and then this happened. I can understand the logic with going ahead with it as contracts are signed and crew have been hired, etc.  Its what - 13 shows? And its possible he may actually play some of them.

Worth remembering that they put off touring in Europe for a few months in 2017 when Ronnie was receiving treatment for lung cancer - but the shows hadnt been announced or put on sale so it didnt inconvenience anyone.

I actually think it's probably understated a bit. With his previous health issue and age, it's probably more serious. Also, just speculating, but "emergency" allows them to get out of legal commitments, whereas if this is a longer standing issue, there is less wiggle room. Nonetheless, there will clearly be a winding down of the band coming up in the next year or so I guess, which is reasonable. For now, I just wish all of them, especially Charlie and Ronnie good health.

Of course he has. I called bullshit on this claim 20 years ago. And I swear I saw a Keith interview around Bigger Bang time saying the Stones could tour without Charlie.

And "legacy" is largely a fan invention. Now if you are talking about "legacy" in the impact of the band's music and the respect of their peers as well as influence on subsequent generations of musicians that was cemented in the 1970's and the impact mostly ended there.

No one remembers Muhammad Ali's final fights and those have had zero impact on his "legacy."

I don't remember that. I believe he said they may be able to without Ronnie, but not without one of the three originals. Besides, the out for him here is that he's temporarily out, not permanently so it's not the way the question was likely posed as most of those questions are asking basically: what if someone died.

As for Keith being full of BS, gotta agree with that a bit. He always says he can say nasty things about Mick, but he'll slit the throat of anyone else who does. Never heard him call out anyone who does that in public, and there have been plenty. Maybe he's done it in private, but I doubt it. That twat Ginger Baker, and a load of others. Never heard a word from Keith publicly.

Keith did indeed say they wouldnt tour without Charlie - and then also walked that back a few years ago by saying they could. Cant recall what interview it was, but I remember being (unpleasantly) surprised by it.

But we're not dealing with that. Its not as if Charlie died or left the band and they then announced a tour with a replacement.

Its a less than ideal scenario but its 13 shows and half a million people have been sitting with (very expensive) tickets for a year and a half already so I can understand it as an emergency measure.

Bad news about Charlie of course.  He is 80.  Cancel everything. Give refunds to those that want them. (Good Luck with that).  Glad I waited to see if tour was gonna be cancelled (For another reason of course).  Won't go to these shows if they happen.  Just not interested without the Master of the High Hat not being there.  Ridiculous. Call it a day and have SOME decorum.   Why so difficult to know when to hang it up?.  Setlist down to 15 songs....some guy behind the stage covering for Ron covering for Keith while Mick shouts instead of actually singing?....no thanks.  Bill leaving was a huge blow, and this does it.  And yea, this change would be permanent.  Think Charlie is gonna say a year from now "Let's go on the road!"...please.  It's done, over and out,  finished...enjoy what it was and what they gave you...

I can tell this guy isn't necessarily trying to be rude to you guys but is clearly expunging his own frustration / dissapointment towards it all. I can see where he is coming from in the fact that he obviously cares for Charlie so greatly he just can't stand to see the show going on without him. As you guys have been saying, it's temporary or whatever, but sometimes you do have to look at the negative way things can go and accept it as reality before hand, incase things do go A-wal you were already prepared. It doesn't make the impact any less devistating when it does occur, but keeping it in mind will help soften the landing I suppose.

It can be a bit unnerving watching the days of old unravel before you to say the very least. And they are, and they will continue doing so.

Yes it sounds as a negative outlook but it is unfortunately the truth. All good things come to an end, but if you're stuck in your ways like I am, even after the all.. It'll be there with you.

Have you cherished nothing from afar?

This guy isn't trying to be negative he is actually scared of the negativity
And things going badly.

Another private show for Robert Kraft at Foxborough at the start of the tour..... ::)

The Rolling Stones to perform private concert for Robert Kraft and friends

By Mark Shanahan Globe Staff,Updated August 5, 2021, 2:42 p.m.

On the eve of their US tour, the Rolling Stones will be performing next month at a private party hosted by Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his family at Gillette Stadium.

On Sept. 20 — six days before the group kicks off its “No Filter Tour” at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis — the Stones, or most of them anyway, will play for the Kraft clan and a few hundred of their friends in Foxborough.

Probably should have saw this coming as the tour rehearsals are supposed to be in Allston, Ma. and they played a private show for Kraft and about 300-400 of his friends in a tent at Foxborough Stadium at the end of that US mini-tour five years ago.

Interestingly, the rest of the article (which is behind a paywall) says that the e-mail invite went out on July 23rd - which was the day after the rescheduled tour was announced.

So many complaints! Do not buy tickets. Charlie is sitting out to recover. He's coming back.

If a band member isn't playing on a studio track, is it not a Stones song? There are numerous songs without Mick, Keith or Charlie over the years. Are they not Stones songs?

What constitutes a Stones song? Charlie's not on You Can't Always Get What You Want so I guess that's not a Stones song.

Nobody will get replaced permanently at this stage. They're in their late 70s/early 80's. It'll be the logical excuse to stop touring and/or disband.

Its not like this is the Who or Queen and the remaining band members had most of their lives still ahead of them.

If health conditions permit it, they'll finish as a touring act after next summer IMO.  Three of the band have had serious health issues in the last two years. We're in the home straight now.

You can't make thise stuff up...
Those maniacs at IORR have solved the COVID issues for the tour...or at least they are working on it.:

person #1:

maybe the band can separate and protect themselves from the audience with a giant protective shield of plexiglass at the foot of the stage

Person #2:

Not plexiglass - but air curtains, integrated into the foot of the stage (blowing upwards) .

Person #3:

Some of the stadiums are enclosed, so the air curtains could cause a circular tornado or hurricane effect of germs circulating even more rapidly throughout the stadium.

person #4:

Good stadiums or arenas should have exhaust ventilation systems to prevent such spreading and they could absorb the air from the air curtains.

Back to #2:

OK - instead of mask mandates (or maybe in addition to), all stadiums should be required to have massive air curtains with proper exhaust ventilation systems to thwart the spread of disease.

IORR what a laugh, you'd think that might sound like a reasonable suggestion.. But there's no way that air would stop the spread of anything in a realistic scenerio infact it would probably spread it even more especially if it were a "circular tornado or hurricane effect" that could easily pick up just about anything and blow it at the band. And if you're going to get that in depth with it everyone on stage would also need one of the "wind shields" between themselves to. However it would be more likely to become a mass of interlacing air spreading just about whatever it wants. But, there is a such thing in the world of mushrooms.. Or how do I say working with the transference of any microscopic matter/bacteria whereas the person working on this has something called a flow hood. This works almost the opposite way of what they are explaining, and it is less about the air flow but more about the heat. To invisibly and realistic reduce the spread of any microscopic germs the stage would need to have extremely hot air flowing downward from the top of the stage.. And then having another set of fans blowing outward into the audience. Again this would be very hot air, so in the case of it working at all the audience would have to be placed several more feet away from the stage or where ever the hot air doesn't directly touch. If the band and audience didn't want to be on fire between this it is obvious air conditioning could be on the stage and on the other side of this heat barrier in the other atmosphere of the building. In the case of being outside, good luck. It would probably be sweltering hot no matter what.

I am guessing that the last date to request refunds is the same for all the non-rescheduled shows.

The date I was given by TM was Aug 21.

Its coming up fast.
So. if it applies to you, request those refunds NOW! so you do not forget.

This has been a public service announcement (not with guitars, this time)
from your favorite Paranoid Android.

I'm back in. Hoping to greet jb and glencar in Atlanta. They can Uber in from The Ritz and meet me on the 200 level at The Terrapin bar. I hope my boys like Terrapin beer! I will pick up the check.

TICKETMASTER has loads of tickets available for every show. I just went to see how many tickets are available for Atlanta and there are so many, so I checked every venue - plenty of unsold tickets everywhere. Many people suffered financially because of the virus, and the ticket prices are too high for the average concertgoer. People are avoiding crowds. Every show is an easy ticket at this point.

In light of the recent saddening news...to cancel or not to cancel NF 2021???

Charlie was recovering (reportedly) to rest for "60 Licks".
At this point, any shows next year will be a mere shell of the band, IMO.
This tour, now, will be exactly that.
The date to request refunds has already passed.
It all just sucks.

IF it goes on, they should redesign at as total tribute to Charlie. Drop the 'No Filter' banner, strip things down and really hone in on the core magic of the band.

If they want to get emotional and honest at the first show should it go ahead, the opener should just be Mick, Ron and Keith (or even more symbolically, just Mick and Keith) seated, no other musicians playing, and they do "No Expectations." Then they slam into a full band "Not Fade Away."

Dig up some of the old blues tunes, some Chuck covers, rock up one of his fave jazz tunes (maybe not). For the first time in a long time, the band is truly being challenged, and if they rise to this occasion, it would be an utterly perfect way to honor Charlie and end the band with dignity.

I agree with Egon at this point.

However, I can see them doing a nice tribute show in London next year, after the Big annual board meeting...as they will need to redo a few legalities etc...

Maybe a few fellow drummers coming to do a few songs with the band...etc

End it now. A special show in London next year with Bill, Mick T and various  special guests. Keith, Mick and Ronnie have other projects to keep them sane.

Of course I don't know what will be the decision, but if it would be in my hands my decision would be do the booked shows and make a deserved tribute to Charlie on those shows, then never tour as The Rolling Stones, never, Make the official announcement "it's all over"

BTW... apparently a big tribute to Charlie by various artists will be done at the end of the year

My initial reaction was the same as most: call it a day. I want the last public image of them together to be of them bowing on stage in 2019. However, we should keep one thing in mind. If Charlie explicitly requested that they tour, that may weigh on their minds as they won't want to ignore that and look like they are ignoring that request both for themselves as well as his family and other loved ones. Not as clear cut as I even thought initially.

Well at least I got to see the last real Rolling Stones concert in Miami, but if this tour goes on as scheduled I'm going to as many shows as possible. If the tour still happens it will probably be the last of the stadium tours. They will have to scale it down after this and change it up but I do hope they keep going.

I doubt he explicitly requested it, that's just how it's being sold to us.

they NEED to do the US tour as pulling the plug will be a financial disaster.

If they change the "format" completely and turn it into a full tribute, I'd be ok with it.

But if the keep touring as the stones it will be BS.

Everybody is raving about how he was essential to their sound, so HOW can we accept a show without him...

My 2 cents, don't spend it all at once.

Don't totally disagree. I'm not going because I don't want to see them without him, and it will just make me feel guilty if I do. However, we don't know what the conversations between them were. Also, my guess is that there are provisions in their contracts that the death of a member voids the contract. I just don't think it's as clear cut as people think, and there is a difference between saying "Charlie would have wanted it" and him explicitly asking them to do the tour. He seemed to be the most thoughtful member of the band, and it wouldn't surprise me if he said something like that rather than something they are trying to sell.

Their insurance basically deems Charlie and Ronnie as replacable. In other words, if Mick or Keith are dead or incapacitated, it pays out on the cancellation of a tour.

It was already confirmed that Charlie would miss the tour due to ill-health so regarding the insurance his subsequent death doesn't really change anything, sadly.

I would expect some sort of COVID policy to be announced SOON (by now, actually).
Foo Fighters, Dead + Co...others, I imagine, all require proof of vax or neg rapid test within 72 hrs, masking requirements,  etc, blah blah blah...

I hope they make it easy for neurotics, like myself, to go and not have a panic attack of some sorts...taking my vaxxed 16 year old Glimmer Twins...they dont enjoy seeing their old man freak out like that...

They would have been 14 at the time of the original dates...the same age I was when I saw my first Stones show in 78...full circle...with a slight bulge now.

Anyone else going to Charlotte?

To each his/her/their own, and I don't mean this to judge or knock anyone else because we all have different experiences and motivation, but as far as a live act goes, I have no interest in seeing them any more. People say: Brian died and Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor and you didn't stop. Well different situations.

Brian Jones died before I was born. Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor chose to leave, and the band still had years and years in front of them in both cases.

If they want to call themselves something else and want to play, still tough, but I would probably go. It's just no longer the Rolling Stones without Charlie Watts. Yes, I understand their contractual commitments and all that, and I have mentioned before that it's not an easy decision for them, but that's it for me if they call themselves the Stones. For those that do go, all power to you and I genuinely hope you love it and they celebrate Charlie in the way that we know they will.

At first I thought how bizarrely optimistic to add a second show...but I looked at the first show and it appears to be nearly sold out.

I looked at other shows (ex/ CLT) and there are about 700+ seats avail on the floor alone (no GA/Pit numbers available)...some entire sections nearly empty...other sections all over the stadium as well...

Lucky Dip holders will fair well I think...

I dont know but I guess its possible as those were arena shows so the demand for the 60,000-odd tickets in that area (2 at MSG and 3 at Meadowlands) would have been through the roof.

I remember Jonathan King doing a news report for the BBC at the time from New York and saying that something like 2 million people had tried to get tickets for the two New York shows.

"Flip the Switch" would be a hell of a song for the band to pull off properly at this stage in the game. They may be counting on Jordan to add some pep to the tempos.

I'd prefer "Scarlet" over "Ghost Town" and "LITHOL."

I could do without FtS, personally...never a fan of the piece.
As far as the other new songs...give me Plundered My Soul over them any day. Anyway, this isnt the setlist thread...I mean one of the setlist threads...++ :kissmyass ++

I could also hope to see LT&A...Slave...Tops, WAY...not sure how Jaggers falsetto is these days and you know he wont settle for anything less than 9/10.

As we are approaching the 10 day count down very soon...I checked on seats for Charlotte (I have LDs x2) ... there's HUNDREDS of seat on the field and first level...I did that hover over the section thing on TM...the place is showing nearly 25K available seats...They will prolly never play the Carolinas again   :D :'( :'( :'(

I wonder if he'll be bold enough to dig up "Worried About You." I hope Keith revives "T&A," one of his best songs and it always rocks.

Some solid looking selections.

With "19th Nervous Breakdown" and "Flip the Switch" both rehearsed, I'm wondering if they're counting on Jordan to speed up the tempo a bit compared to where Charlie was the last couple of years. Those songs would not sound right if taken at the languid pace of 2017-18 (2019 I thought they actually restored some briskness and urgency to the songs).
