Title: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Gazza on Mar 3rd, 2021 at 12:03pm
The newly released 3-CD Japanese bootleg of unreleased material is now available as a lossy download on IORR
Sound quality is superb, although obviously if there is a lossless version of these songs, they'll be even better. Here's the link for the download. Should be good for a week or so. Thanks to user bkeys for uploading it : https://wetransfer.com/downloads/5dae8e1116aca02d93c8af32f957590d20210303144412/380ff8 UPDATE - there's now a link to a FLAC version (1.3 GB). Thanks to Remco. Link should be good for a week (ie, 11th March) Note - we've been advised the flac files are actually lossless, coming from the same source as the mp3 files. So we're still waiting on a lossless version https://wetransfer.com/downloads/e1ab78325afc0548d641cd11f301b24e20210304203327/e509ca?fbclid=IwAR0QBudSLCB_bj8laLrbfxVmaPi7QCYB1Gek8pUyPsm5k2HfZXPUKPnbRxg Now we have a 320 kbps mp3 version - thanks 3ddie. Link available until 13th March https://wetransfer.com/downloads/9e037f93b2e6958cc792f6d3de0fe06d20210306171843/5acd4c Much of this stuff is new to circulation and many of the titles have never been heard of until now. Its maybe a stretch to describe some of the material as 'fully finished', I also think some songs are Jagger solo recordings and some of the recording dates claimed are questionable but its well worth getting. Intriguing to get the early version of 'IORR'. Woody is very prominent on it although I can't personally hear Bowie who was supposedly on the original recording. CD 1, VOLUME 1 (TIME 79:20) 1. Some of these songs sound like theyve been mixed with a view to an official release. Maybe they were songs considered for potential deluxe versions?
This is the song from 1970 that's been bootlegged for about four decades as an instrumental called 'Potted Shrimp' Now with vocals! I think this is a latter day vocal (maybe recorded but unused for the 'Exile' reissue?) https://youtu.be/Vrk62Bi_WME |
Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Gazza on Mar 3rd, 2021 at 5:29pm
This one is listed as 1973, but sounds more like a 'Voodoo Lounge' session (just when you thought that 10-CDs of material from those sessions was probably all there was, here's some more)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqGUSzJWJww this trippy piece is listed as 1967, which would place it in the 'Satanic Majesties' era. It sounds like it could be accurate. Again, another session that we already have several discs of material from, so this is new. Sounds pretty finished too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzjp3gWgJwY Listed as 1976, although the Stones didn't record that year. Presumably a 'Black and Blue' outtake. Sounds finished musically. Presumably set aside for Mick to polish off the vocal and lyrics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLRkJYgOnjg |

A big thanks to Niels, whoever you may be, for uploading videos of these songs to Youtube.
Three from the Bridges to Babylon sessions in 1997 to kick off. All with Keith on vocals instead of Mick. First, an alternate take of 'Too Tight' from the 'Bridges to Babylon' sessions. Almost a minute longer than the album take, featuring a prominent violin (Frankie Gavin?) replacing the backing vocals that are on the released version https://youtu.be/S1YefajB_lU And now, here's 'Flip The Switch'. Unusual intro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfpxJLB10bc 'Low Down' had Keith's stamp all over it. Here's the original version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSeVxbhzHmo 'Never Make You Cry' from the 'Some Girls' sessions in 1977. This song has appeared on many bootlegs before now, but this is about half a minute longer. Haven't listened to the other take yet for comparison, but this sounds a bit more finished https://youtu.be/REz7-xqCNQU 'Every Time I Break Her Heart'. Another one from the 'Some Girls' sessions. A slow country number which sounds like it is an early template for what evolved into 'Far Away Eyes' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OY_2nCTaQEg 'Curtis Meets Smokey'. This is one we can date exactly as there's a sessionography for it - Olympic Studios, London, 23rd April 1969. This was the date that 'Jamming With Edward' was recorded, which means that the line up was probably Mick, Bill, Charlie, Nicky Hopkins and Ry Cooder. Was Mick singing in falsetto back then though? Its quite possible that some of his vocals on these tracks were recorded much later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7quf7wiUxbo 'Living In the Heart of Love'. Most people have heard this IORR outtake before - but not this version. Sounds like the vocal has been redone at a later date and the song sounds finished. Mick reworked a few old outtakes in the mid 90's (remember 'So Young', which was a Some Girls outtake released as a b-side in 1994 with a new vocal? Maybe this is something similar) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pirBg5ApQx8 This is a Goats Head Soup outtake that many expected to be released last year. The version that's been on bootlegs for many years clocks in at 6:36, but this one is 5:50. Still doesn't sound finished. Maybe this edit/mix was shortlisted to be worked on for 'GHS 2020' but unfinished/unused. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_vwR-rC_UA |

This storm of material is beyond my ability to digest anytime soon. Or to
understand where it comes from, or why. I expected stuff like this to appear only after the band called it quits. And even then to be doled out slowly... And all these lyrics to decipher will drive me insane if i'm not careful I think i'm just gonna rely on others for a while. Put myself on a slow drip. I saw a few people raving about "Desperate Man". I like it very much... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqGUSzJWJww |

Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Gazza on Mar 4th, 2021 at 7:45am
This one is supposedly from the 'Undercover' sessions. Love the horns. There's an instrumental take of this on the Art Collins Tapes which came out a couple of years ago, but this one has a vocal. In both cases, they're using the working title of 'Dog Shit', which was done as a joke and bears no relation to the song itself. For many years, this was believed to be the working title of 'Pretty Beat Up' based on a misinterpretation of a comment Wyman once made in a BBC radio interview, but thats not the case. Different track entirely
https://youtu.be/H0yvMKcAYmA 'Dreams to Remember' from the same era, apparently. An Otis Redding cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2mUXoM5S8k Another 'Voodoo Lounge' era song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHdZwMMDtrw The percussion style on this does suggest its also from VL sessions. There are a few outtakes in a similar vein https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrP_Icykltc 'Ivy League' is another VL outtake. A version of this appeared on the 'Voodoo Stew' bootleg clocking in at 3:12 and there's another take running at 4:30 on 'Voodoo Brew' whereas this is 4:56. It's also more developed. Fantastic harp playing by Mick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVKr4T_3Y9w This one is labelled as being from 1991, which if true would place it in the same session as the one where they cut 'High Wire' and 'Sex Drive'. A real riffmonster. Has a bit of a 'Wicked as it seems' vibe about it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7b1MpZCCkc |

Thanks again to Niels for uploading some more songs from this collection
(You Better) Stop That - A track from the Undercover sessions in late 1982. Is it just me or does this sound a bit like 'She Was Hot' ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD3ZIRaTS-o Cookin' Up'. Similar vein from the same sessions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaeS1HZb2FQ Keep It Cool. Another from 'Undercover'. This circulated as part of the Art Collins tapes a couple of years ago and was about 20 minutes long. This is a much more manageable length https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Cht15RaXN8 'Still In Love'. A ballad with a gorgeous hook that the band worked on several times, starting in the Bahamas in early '79 for Emotional Rescue. This is from the 'Undercover' sessions and sounds pretty close to being finished. Maybe was too 'tender' in feel for that album. Pity. https://youtu.be/VIXOkBIUOmk 'Eliza Upchink' from the Undercover sesisons. I think this might be a longer take than what has circulated before. Stu rattling away on piano. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXB-v9ciAos 'Built That Way'. Nico Zentgraf's site - www.zentgraf.de lists this song as having been recorded in Rotterdam in early 1975 during the auditions for the new guitarist. Steve Marriott may be on this one.If not, I'd love to know who the lead guitarist is. It sounds like Martha & The Vandellas' 'Heatwave' - a song that the Stones DID jam on during these rehearsals. This is really good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjSoBEm0h0c 'Putty In Your Hands' - A Shirelles cover from the 'Dirty Work' sessions. Maybe considered as an alternative to 'Harlem Shuffle' for the 'soul cover' on that record? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWhsVQ5RZw4 'Might as well get Juiced' - a 7-minute demo from the BTB sessions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF_mMfdcE-Q |

This one deserves a post of it's own.
Finally, the original and much discussed demo of 'Its Only Rock 'n' Roll' from The Wick in early December 1973 Mick Jagger - guitar & Vocals. Ron Wood - guitar, bass & vocals. Kenny Jones - drums & David Bowie - handclaps & vocals. Bowie's a bit hard to hear - Woody though is all over it. It's almost a duet! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRGfcYK5Oww |
Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes (update - lossless version now available) Post by Gazza on Mar 4th, 2021 at 5:44pm
'Nobody's Perfect'. This one is a bit of a mystery. Sounds more like a Mick Jagger solo track than a Stones' recording. Its listed as mid-80's, but sounds more recent to me. Some people reckon it could be from the 'Alfie' sessions (2004). Good song. Definitely worthy of an official release.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWFMR-gI2sY 'Too Many Cooks'. Mick's riproaring cover of this soul number co-written by Holland-Dozier-Holland (under a pseudonym) was recorded in LA in 1973. Produced by John Lennon, it featured an all star line up which included Al Kooper, Jesse Ed Davis, Bobby Keys and others. Two versions of this have previously circulated. A long bootlegged version which runs for around 3:41 and the version officially released on 'The Very Best Of Mick Jagger; which clocks in at 4:04. This clocks in at 4:58. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGzl4CCV3eM 'Walk With Me Wendy' . This one is listed as 1974, which if accurate means its from IORR or Black and Blue sessions. Whilst the hook is well developed, its clearly a long way from finished with Mick yelling a guide vocal over the whole song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3-D9c49huE 'Trouble's a Coming'. I've always thought that 'Emotional Rescue' was a record that got away from the Stones and had the potential, based on the outtakes, to end up being mentioned in the same breath as the albums that preceded and followed it. This is another previously unheard of outtake that with a bit of TLC could have ended up being pretty special. https://youtu.be/asn8HHzvXhU |
Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes (update - lossless version now available) Post by Gazza on Mar 4th, 2021 at 6:14pm
'Not The Way To Go'. There are multiple versions of this song from RCA Studios in Hollywood (Aug-Sep '78) in circulation. This, however is a shorter version which is more developed than the others with Mick's vocal higher in the mix
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW5olzM6BuQ 'Don't Lie To Me'. Chuck Berry cover recorded by the Stones and released on 'Metamorphosis' in 1975. The Stones played it once in 1972 but this version seems to come from much later, in fact I'm not convinced its a band recording as opposed to a Jagger solo performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH1wZvs6upQ 'It's a Lie'. This was the 'Some Girls' outtake I was really hoping they'd polish up for the Deluxe reissue in 2011 but it wasn't to be. There are two circulating versions of this song on bootlegs - one runs for about 5:20 with the other usually running around 4:36 or so. This is a bit shorter but I'm not convinced its a different take. But its nice to hear it again especially for Sugar Blue's harp playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJvyUGGQ33s 'You Win Again'. The Hank Williams classic, which the Stones released (with a new vocal) on the 'Some Girls' reissue in 2011. I think this is probably the same as the version that's been bootlegged for many years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVpzxENjANs 'Fiji Jim' Again, I think this is the same 'Some Girls' outtake thats been much bootlegged. This song was one of a few old outtakes that Mick reworked in 1994 for b-sides (the version of 'So Young' that they released comes from that session) which makes me think that a lot of these songs were gathered together with a view to some latter day overdubs being added to them. This is an original 1977-78 recording though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9XemMcci40 |

'Deep Love'. This 'Dirty Work' outtake has circulated since about 1987, but with Keith on vocal. This one features Mick.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyOtJDDeE3A 'I Can't See No One Else'. Another Dirty Work outtake, although this one seems a long way from being complete. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw3w-cUwrvU 'Strictly Memphis' Mick & Bobby Womack duetting on this 'Dirty Work' outtake, cut in New York in summer 1985. Whilst I think this is the same take that's been around for over 30 years, they've added horns to it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol55ItCiljs 'Hands Off'. Going by Mick's 'barking' vocal style, this sounds like it could be 'Dirty Work' era. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKKTU1SgQlA 'Blood Red Wine'. I dont think this is anything new. 'Beggars Banquet' outtake from Olympic Studios in 1968. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqtN4uiX05A 'Covered in Bruises' Supposedly the early version of '1234', the title track of Ronnie's 1981 album, this one is probably from the Some Girls era, with Woody and Mick tearing up the lead vocal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcBq-a11WGQ 'Can't Find Love'. Another track seemingly from the 'Undercover' sessions. They went for a very hard hitting album of often violent songs in the end, but it's clear there were quite a few songs cut for this album that had a more tender feel. This is another. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-NEvfe56dw 'I Tried To Talk Her Into It'. Listed as an 'Undercover' outtake, this first circulated in the 'Art Collins Tapes' a couple of years ago. This version is a minute longer. Reminds me of 'Claudine' somewhat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHKcXzmU2X0 'Giving It Up'. A Steel Wheels outtake from 1989. There's a version in circulation that's over a minute longer, so this is new. Still unfinished. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKKTU1SgQlA 'Dream About' . This one doesn't sound very Stones-like to me. I think its maybe a Mick solo piece. Maybe 'Goddess in the Doorway' era? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-FMW1Fdtv8 |

By my reckoning, Niels has uploaded 46 of the 50 tracks to youtube. An incredible gesture which deserves a huge thanks.
The only ones missing are the two studio jams ('Well Well' and 'Extreme Western Grip' , both of which were released on 'Four Flicks') plus 'Criss Cross' and 'Scarlet' which were later reworked for 'Goats Head Soup 2020'. Its possible he doesnt want to risk any copyright issues, which is reasonable enough ! |

Was 'Part Of The Night' or 'Can't Find Love' what Keith was working on (with Don Wasp) in the recent photos?. And there's that lovely track - whichever one it is - with Jogger and then both G Twins crooning on..Major trousers... In the Middle Of the Ocean is basically Everything is Turning to Gold. Might as Well Get Juiced is infinitely better than the album version. Just so much great stuff they have that's unreleased and never developed. I have never understood why they don't just work on what they already have and put out albums of stuff already written but not quite in album shape.

You''re welcome. Guesswork for the most part, although I;m noting some of the comments on other sites and social media from people who (unlike me) have a well trained musical ear and who can tell the era and musicians by the drum sound or type of guitar being played. The credits are a mess. I think a lot of these tracks have been gathered together and in some cases worked on years after they were originally recorded probably with a view to putting them on some kind of archives project that was either shelved or which still may happen. Some Guy wrote on Mar 5th, 2021 at 7:27am:
Presumably one of the two ways that studio recordings usually get bootlegged. They were either leaked or stolen. There are supposedly two more volumes of this stuff in the pipeline (I have absolutely no idea what will be on them). |

Just listening... Dreams To Remember (Otis Redding) - it's not the Stones. It's Mick and probably Ronnie but it's neither Charlie nor Bill nor Keef. Don't Lie To Me the same.
But, yeah, I love Otis Redding, and this rendition is lotsa fun. Well done, Mick. While listening further, it seems to me that those songes tagged 1982 or 1983 are Mick's solo-efforts. But great stuff. |

Hi everybody, as the flac version of the boot was not tagged at all and the flacs had been created from mp3, I made a fully tagged mp3/320 kbps version of it, suitable for Itunes or else. The years I wrote in the tags of the songs are those noted on the backsleeve of the CD and might be incorrect. Feel free to download it; link should be available for one week.
Have fun! https://we.tl/t-KAj3ffH0a6 |

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D You can read me like a book! the actual article ( I love how they proudly announce it as an 'exclusive' - four days after its been on every Stones fan site on the internet) : STONES UNTURNED Treasure trove of 50 unreleased Rolling Stones songs mysteriously emerges online RECORD label bosses are probing the leak of an incredible treasure trove of 50 unreleased Rolling Stones songs spanning their near 60 year career. The high quality studio recordings stem from the 1960s with band founder member Brian Jones, through the 70s with guitarist Mick Taylor right through to recent era with Ronnie Wood. But their release this week on pirate ‘bootleg’ CDs and availability on various Rolling Stones’ fan sites has baffled music experts as to how they were liberated. It is thought the songs were being readied for a full label release - given the studio quality - and that hackers grabbed them or someone leaked it. The Stones are currently signed to Polydor in the UK and Interscope in the US - both part of Universal. The leak has created massive excitement on Rolling Stones fan sites. Among the gems on the three disc collection, simply called Fully Finished Studio Outtakes, is what many fans are calling one of the groups’ holy grail recordings – the original demo of It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll featuring David Bowie and Ronnie Wood before he joined the band. It was made in spring 1974 during a jam session at the recording studio in Ronnie Wood’s famed former Richmond home, The Wick. A few members of the Stones were present but Mick Jagger loved it so much that he not only used the song as the band’s next single but it also became the name of their forthcoming album. When the single finally saw the light of day both Ronnie Wood and David Bowie’s parts had been erased. Stones’ superfan Mike Andrews, a builder, 47, from east London, said: “The It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll demo has a legendary status amongst Stones fans, most of whom thought it had either been lost or would never see the light of day because of contractual problems as it featured David Bowie. “Now it’s easily available for all to hear and what a cracker it is! “How these 50 songs were made available is a complete mystery with some fans thinking it might have been a case of cyber crime and someone hacking into the Stones’ archive vault.” Other songs on the set include outtakes from classic albums such as Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main Street, and Black And Blue MASSIVE EXCITEMENT Many of the song are unknown even to Stones’ experts and include the following titles: Hands Off, Curtis Meets Smokey, Troubles A-Coming, 20 Nil and Every Time I Break Her Heart. One theory being discussed on Stones’ fan sites is that the songs had been worked on and readied for up and coming archive releases. The leak has created massive excitement on Rolling Stones fan sites. One of the most popular forums It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll - the website of the fan club set up in 1980 - has had fans purring and debating from which eras and albums the songs come from. A user posted a link to the download this week. Apparently 500 actual factory-pressed CDs have been pressed costing around £50 each for the 3CD release. Hockenheim95 wrote: “this stuff is soooooooooooo amazing! in this stunning quality it must have been stolen from the digital archives of the rolling stones. Mathijs wrote: “It’s fantastic, and it all sounds very much like it is remixed and mastered recently, Perhaps for the current Deluxe reissues.” U2Stonesfans wrote: “I do not see how the band could not be in on this release somehow. Or they have a thief with access to the vault amongst their inner circle. This stuff is fantastic!. I’m dedicating my day to listening to this gem of a release!” Deardoctor wrote: “This is really D-day for us collectors. So great. What an amazing sound quality!” Cristiano Radtke wrote: “Event of the year and THE best Stones bootleg in years. Many many thanks to all the people involved.” A spokesman for the Rolling Stones declined to comment. |

Back in spring 1999 at the end of the No Security Tour, there was talk of a 'new' studio album coming out to coincide with the European leg of the tour. It was to be called 'Memory Hotel'.
Bjornulf on IORR even confirmed it in a news entry dated 21st May stating that it was due out on May 31st and that : No news about the tracks on the CD, but it might be outtakes from the previous two albums, that are supposed to be finished for production by now. https://iorr.org/news9905.htm No track listing for this record ever leaked and of course it never came out. It seems incredulous that a few days before a release date no one would know what was on it and equally improbable that it would have been pulled at such a late stage, but it did appear that there was a project of this nature in the works. Which makes me wonder if some of the songs on this 3-CD set were being prepared for this release and they just didnt get it finished on time. A bit of research seems to indicate that 'Ivy League' and 'Hands off' come from the Voodoo Lounge sessions and that, as well as the alternate takes we have here of four Bridges to Babylon songs, the following five tracks all appear to come from the sessions for that album - 20 Nil, Desperate Man, Dream About, Prairie Love and Sanctuary. That's seven tracks which with a bit of work could have ended up on this 'Tattoo You II' type release. There were also a few other completed songs that we know about from this era (Honest Man from Voodoo Lounge sessions amongst several others and a few uncirculated but supposedly finished songs for BTB with Keith on vocals such as Ever Changing World, High or Low, I'm Cured etc. Certainly enough material for an album of leftovers from that 1993 - 1997 era. |

As someone who is in IORR told me via facebook, the tracks on the CDs are lossy, too. So it may be as assumed: As the source could be a hack, the snitched sources are lossy. So we possibly have the best available quality here alreday. On guitars101 you can find it mastered by someone. I downloaded it yesterday but yet have not heard it in comparison.

Finished Outtakes Volume 1 -- Album Review
This is a preliminary review, because the album is only beginning to sink in... After the second listening, I deleted "nobody's perfect" from Volume 1 and put it in a miscellaneous folder. It seems like a pretty good Jagger song but it doesn't fit in with the other 14 tracks. Given the album title, ironically, its just too finished, too polished... The other 14 tracks blend well, without total individuation for me at this point, and i mean that in a good way. Like a fun party where you haven't been introduced to everybody yet. In other words, I'm hearing it almost like a concept album. Secure and masculine. Sure, it would clean up good for polite company, but why bother? With everything else so go-pro these days, this informal and intimate mode is a sound for sore ears. Yeah, if in this batch of tunes there was a "start me up" or "brown sugar", i'd want to hear how the Stones would perfect it. But since there isn't, fuck it, its cool the way it is. Why put in all the extra effort for no real gain. Why put on airs. So i think the name "fully finished outtakes" means we're hearing these tracks at the point when the Stones were finished with them emotionally. They could've pushed on, polishing them up, because that's what you're supposed to do. But honestly there wouldn't have been any profit in it, artistically or commercially... (The exception of course is "lowdown" which was gussied up for "babylon", and it sort of illustrates my point. There was a commercial reason in 1997 to push on (to complete an album that was the theme of a big tour) so they did, and they did get an improved result, but if the market wasn't compelling them, and in the end all we had now was keith's outtake version, we wouldn't be missing a whole hell of a lot) Bottom line: The Stones have let me into the studio with them! So "Volume 1" is now my favorite album. At this moment in history, it fits me like a glove. For how long, we'll see. I mean, i very much like "flowers", "satanic", "goat's head", "iorr", and "steel wheels", but those 5 never even spent one day as my favorite album... Let me tell ya something. In 2021, at my age, not to mention the age of the Stones, a new favorite album is quite the blessing, no matter how flawed somebody else might think it is. nobody's perfect. |

Listening to this stuff a lot over the last few days and reading a lot of the comments on various sites and social media pages by people with a decent musical ear, we can narrow down these recordings as follows. Note - this is not necessarily definitive. In maybe about 20-30% of the cases, its educated guesswork
A special nod to Nico Zentgraf's always excellent Complete Works website - www.nzentgraf.de - and it's corresponding facebook page. Note : in a lot of these cases, overdubs may have been done some considerable time afterwards She's Doing Her Thing - 'Satanic Majesties' sessions, Olympic Studios, London, October 1967 Blood Red Wine - 'Beggars Banquet' sessions, Olympic Studios, London, May 1968 Curtis Meets Smokey - 'Let It Bleed' sessions, Olympic Studios, London 23 April 1969. The same date as the 'Jamming with Edward' session, so the line up is probably Mick, Bill, Nicky, Charlie and Ry Cooder. Walk With Me Wendy - 'Sticky Fingers' sessions, Olympic Studios, London, June-July 1970. Tell Her How It Is - 'Sticky Fingers/Exile' sessions, Rolling Stones Mobile, Stargroves/Olympic Studios, London, October 1970. Overdubs in New York/LA or London, Autumn 2009. This is the much bootlegged instrumental 'Potted Shrimp' with a latter day vocal. Presumably an outtake from the 2010 'Exile' reissue. Criss Cross - 'Goats Head Soup' sessions, Dynamic Sound Studios, Kingston December 1972 and Island Studios, London, May-June 1973. It's Only Rock 'n' Roll - 'It's Only Rock 'n' Roll sessions, The Wick, Richmond, Dec 4-6, 1973. Original demo, featuring Mick, Ronnie, Kenney Jones & David Bowie. Too Many Cooks - Mick Jagger solo project, Record Plant, Los Angeles, December 1973 Fast Talking, Slow Walking ; Living In The Heart Of Love - 'Its Only Rock 'n' Roll' sessions, Musicland Studios, Munich, Feb-Mar 1974 Scarlet - 'Black and Blue' (or unspecified) sessions, The Wick, Richmond, October 1974. Other recordings possibly at another date. Not a full Stones session. Built That Way - 'Black and Blue' sessions, Rolling Stones Mobile, Rotterdam, Jan-Feb 1975. Covered In Bruises ; Everytime I Break Her Heart ; Fiji Jim ; Never Make You Cry ; You Win Again - 'Some Girls' sessions, Pathe-Marconi Studios, Paris, October - December 1977 Not The Way To Go - 'Emotional Rescue' sessions, RCA Studios, Hollywood, September 1978 Trouble's A-Comin' - 'Emotional Rescue' sessions, Compass Point Studios, Nassau, January-February 1979 It's a Lie - 'Emotional Rescue' sessions, Pathe Marconi Studios, Paris June-July / Sep-Oct 1979 Can't Find Love ; Cooking Up ; Eliza Upchink ; I Tried To Talk Her Into It ; I've Got Dreams To Remember ; Keep It Cool ; Part Of The Night ; Still In Love With You ; (You Better) Stop That - 'Undercover' sessions, Pathe-Marconi Studios, Paris, November - December 1982. Big Truff - 'Undercover' sessions, Compass Point Studios, Nassau / Hit Factory, New York - May 1983. (Song is listed here as 'Dog Shit' which was the working title before vocals were added. The music may have been recorded at the previous session in Paris) I Can't See NoOne Else ; Putty In Your Hands - 'Dirty Work' sessions, Pathe-Marconi Studios, Paris, April-June 1985 Deep Love ; Strictly Memphis - 'Dirty Work' sessions, RPM Studios, New York July - August 1985 Giving It Up - AIR Studios, Montserrat, March - May 1989 Hands Off ; Ivy League - 'Voodoo Lounge' sessions, Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin, November - December 1993 20 Nil ; Desperate Man ; Dream About ; Flip The Switch ; Lowdown ; Might As Well Get Juiced ; Prairie Love ; Sanctuary ; Too Tight - 'Bridges To Babylon' sessions, Ocean Way Studios, Los Angeles, March - June 1997 Extreme Western Grip ; Well, Well - '40 Licks' sessions, Studio Guillaume Tell, Suresnes, Paris, May-June 2002. The following two songs are a bit more contentious Don't Lie To Me - some speculation its a Jagger solo rehearsal from LA in October 1987. More likely than not recorded as a warm up during the 'Dirty Work' sessions in Paris, April 1985 Nobody's Perfect - some reckon it's another 'Dirty Work' outtake from New York, July-August 1985. Personally, I think it's not the Stones but a Mick Jagger solo recording, possibly the 'Primitive Cool' sessions at Wisseloord Studios, Hilversum, Netherlands, November - December 1986. The two '40 Licks' songs were previously released on the 'Four Flicks' DVD. 'Blood Red Wine' has been available on bootlegs for over 40 years. I'm open to correction, but whilst a few of the other songs have either been released officially or circulated unofficially before, all of the versions here are new to circulation. Songs are probably all Jagger-Richards, with the following exceptions : 'IORR' is officially Jagger-Richards of course, but as can be seen here, it's really a Jagger-Wood composition. Both of them wrote this song and 'I Can Feel The Fire' together. Mick left his writing credit off the latter song which appears on Ronnie's debut solo album (although Mick sings on it) and Ronnie left his credit off the song that became the title track of the next Rolling Stones album. Not the wisest business move of his career. 'Covered in Bruises' is probably Jagger-Wood, but was rewritten and re-titled '1234' and became the title track of Ronnie's 1981 solo album, released in the same week as 'Tattoo You'. The released version is solely credited to Ronnie : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIJYXiJ25-0 'Putty In Your Hands' was written by Big John Patton and released by The Shirelles on their 1962 LP 'Baby It's You' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_BZpAUPCe0 'I've Got Dreams To Remember' was written by Otis Redding, Zelma Redding and Joe Rock. It was recorded by Otis Redding in November/December 1967 and was one of the last songs he cut before he was killed on December 10 of that year. It was released on 'The Immortal Otis Redding' in June 1968. In the Stones' version, Mick sings some different lyrics in the verses https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOwNCKZeNOE 'Too Many Cooks' - I've seen this song as being credited to Willie Dixon, but it wasn't. His version is on youtube and while there a few similar lines, its a different song. It was written by Angelo Bond/Ronald Dunbar/Edith Wayne. (Angelo Bond was a '70s soul singer who scored a Top 40 R&B hit in 1975 with "Reach for the Moon (Poor People). Ronald Dunbar was an American songwriter, A&R director and record producer who worked closely with Holland–Dozier–Holland, and with George Clinton. His co-writing credits include the hit songs "Give Me Just a Little More Time", "Band of Gold", and "Patches", for which he won a Grammy. He worked with songwriters and record producers Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Eddie Holland, in an uncredited capacity, until they left Motown over a financial dispute in 1968. Dunbar remained with the three when they set up Holland–Dozier–Holland Productions Inc., and the Invictus and Hot Wax labels, where he became A&R director. Dunbar began to be credited as a songwriter in his own right, as half of a writing partnership with "Edith (or Edyth) Wayne". The latter is now acknowledged to have been a pseudonym used by Holland, Dozier and Holland, who were unable to use their own names because they were legally contracted to Jobete, Motown's song publishing arm). The earliest version I know of (its probably the original) was recorded in 1971, two years before Mick's cover and is by Detroit R&B band 8th Day on their self titled debut album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFCdmz6YgKY 'Don't Lie To Me' was written by Hudson Whittaker (aka Tampa Red) in 1940 as 'Don't You Lie To Me' and covered by other artists such as Fats Domino. The original : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CpY_hJupUo The Stones' probably heard it when Chuck Berry covered it on his 1961 album 'New Juke Box Hits' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzXqsxAwP6Q The Stones' studio version is from Chess Studios in Chicago on 10-11 June 1964. It was eventually released on 'Metamorphosis' in June 1975. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZmHrD-0Qc8 They first recorded it for the BBC Radio show 'Saturday Club' on 3rd Feb 1964. The song was performed once - in Fort Worth on 24th June 1972. There's also a circulating version from a mid-tour rehearsal the day before. CORRECTIONS WELCOME! |

Then again, Woody is on guitars, bass and vocals so what we're hearing obviously had quite a bit of work done on it before Keith got anywhere near it. I did expect Bowie to be more prominent on it, however. Seems a bit strange to have a voice like that in your studio and then tell him to add a few handclaps and a few barely audible backing vocals. As I said elsewhere, its akin to having Hendrix at a session and asking him to play the triangle.

I havent seen that magazine cover in a long time. I recall seeing it in a Stones book in the early 80's. Great cartoon.
Yes, its Bowie Ok. Keith's memory is a bit off as he also says in one interview they dubbed over Kenney Jones - which (as Charlie confirms) wasn't the case. Some more info from http://www.timeisonourside.com/SOIt%27sOnlyRock.html Mick (Jagger) and I worked out I Can Feel the Fire and after we'd done that, he said, Help me with this song 'cause I wanna see how it turns out. So, say on a Tuesday evening: two guitars - Mick and I - and Mick singing lead vocal and David Bowie and myself on backup vocals. Then I overdubbed the rest of the instruments last and it sounded like a good demo. So the next night, we wanted to put it in a more presentable shape so we got hold of Kenny Jones who plays the drums on the actual record. Ah... I ended up with just my acoustic guitar that I laid originally. Keith replaced - RIGHTLY SO - the guitars that I'd done electrically. - Ron Wood, 1982 The idea of the song has to do with our persona at the time. I was getting a bit tired of people having a go, all that oh, it's not as good as their last one business. The single-sleeve had a picture of me with a pen digging into me as if it were a sword. It was a light-hearted, anti-journalistic sort of thing. We originally recorded it in Ronnie Wood's demo-studio. - Mick Jagger, 1993 I didn't do that, that was done - I was in bed at the time of that... And that was done - Kenny played that, Kenny Jones, they pulled HIM out' cause he lived near to Richmond. It was done in a very beautiful house in Richmond that Ronnie used to own. Pete Townshend owns it now, there's a bit of name-dropping isn't it, you'll like that. - Charlie Watts, 2003 We cut it but it just didn't have that one-off feel. So eventually we went back to the dub and overdubbed (laughs) on David and on Kenny and... did another one of those because it just had the right... - Keith Richards, 2003 I said, But you forgot one thing, Keith, you forgot my twelve-string. And he said, (grunts) I left that on. - Ron Wood, 2003 |

I also get a bit of a "All Along The watchtower" feel from it at times. Put me down for a "Thumbs Up", either way. I am a big fan of "Can't Find Love", can't believe its from the Undercover sessions, considering that was full of violent imagery and such. This could have bee a perfect last song for a complete 180 turn on the groove. |

But...I AM NOT COMPLAING I like Putty In Your Hands...listed as 1962 above , with the correction listed as 1985...Maybe this was the alternate to Bob & Earl's Harlem Shuffle as the "tribute song". Definitely from 1985. It's also known as '(I Can't See No One Else) Beside You' There's been a very embryonic version of it (the verses anyway) of Mick & Keith fleshing it out in a rehearsal tape from January/February of that year in circulation for a very long time. Its on bootlegs such as 'Glimmer Twins Private Tapes' and 'Hamnbird Disaster' A seven minute version of it featuring the band circulated about 5-6 years ago. The newly circulated version is two minutes shorter and a lot more developed. |

ALBUM REVIEW: LOVE VOLUME ONE
There's no other word for it, I've been mainlining this album. Once a day, usually after dinner, after a little red wine, I sprawl out on the couch and return to the days of yore. Its lucky I'm not smoking rope anymore, or it would be more than once a day I'm sure. After 10 of these listening sessions, I'm now friends with all the tracks. I know their names, and even a little about their backgrounds. Its a disparate bunch, in terms of age, birthplace and parenting, so I'm still kind of shocked at what a consistent vibe this album has. What's the tie that binds? Well, not counting his solo work, this is the most Keith Richards album ever. Even more than on Exile, his rhythm guitar is leading and elevating the band, and inspiring Mick, raising the bar for everybody. When the music is this strong, you don't have to care so much about song structure and lyrics. Or at least I don't. Random notes: 1) One of the absolute revelations of "On Air" was Wyman's bass being given prominence in the mix. Same with this release. 2) The proper name for track 9 is "God Shit". It may not have fit well into a mid-80s commercial album, but there will always be an honored place for it in my. blue. heaven. 3) The proper name for track 5 is "Old Eliza Jane". It is the Stones' version of the many "Liza Jane" variations that originated in the early 19th century and which became standardized in Appalachia and New Orleans as "Lil Liza Jane" (young and a real sweetheart) and "Good Bye Eliza Jane" (when she's gotten jaded and just uses men for their money, until they inevitably smarten up and kick her to the curb). Its easy to guess which tradition Mick has adapted: Old Eliza's gambling/Old Eliza Jane/Old Eliza gone back in time/ Back on the streets again 4) Mick blows me away on track 15. To work out the melody, instead of using placeholder lyrics, like mccartney's "scrambled eggs" for "yesterday", or repetitive scat syllables like "da-da-dee-da-da", Mick uses stream-of-consciousness near-words to get at the emotion of the song first. We've heard this before, on this or that missing line, but never for a whole song with lots of lyrics. The result is artistry that easily stands on its own merits, even though it would never be allowed on a standard blues-rock release. Its smooth jazz. I love it when a Stones album closes with something dream-like. 5) I haven't head-to-head compared Goats Head Deluxe "Scarlet" with this one, but for some reason I like this one more. Maybe its just my imagination, thinking this one's so much better. Whatever. Always take the pleasure where you find it. 6) I'm glad they left off the three other tracks that were on those ebay CDs. "Nobody's Perfect" and "Lowdown" are good, but the former is too Dave Stewart and the latter is too Winos. As for "walk with me wendy", that's the track they should've called "dog shit". You can hear poor Mick Taylor and Billy Preston way in the background doing their virtuoso thing, but Jagger and Richards are both so loud and grating they make the whole thing unlistenable. 7) Anyway, in case you hadn't noticed, I'm still happily overwhelmed by the unvarnished brilliance of "Love Volume One". Its a conceptually cohesive killer album for me, not a collection of unrelated fragments. That's why i'm very glad i haven't gotten my hands on "love volume two" yet. I need more time. I don't want to OD. |

More days, more listens... I wish i had the balls to say what i really think, that "love volume one" is the greatest Stones album ever. But i don't want to be put in a mental hospital. So i'll just keep refering to it more acceptably as my "current favorite". Every track is peak Stones musically (not in terms of hit songs). So there's no way i can move on to volume two yet. I would feel like i was cheating on a great girlfriend. Also i can't conceive of volume two being anywhere near this good. So for now i'll keep burning volume one deep into my DNA, and try not to become too unmoored as i face this absurdly unlikely blast of Keith/Stones ecstacy in the year fucking 2021. With all due respect, y'all are underestimating this album as badly as the people of 1972 underestimated Exile. And for the same reasons. |

ALBUM REVIEW: LOVE VOLUME TWO
1) After training my ear with "love volume one" and its different somewhat radical aesthetic, it was much easier to get into volume two. Two is great too, perhaps just not as great as one. 2) On volume one, Keith was at his most brilliant and rightly dominated the band. That's the highest form of "peak stones" (as famously exhibited on their historic "big four" run of albums). With "love volume two" we get to hear the lesser form of "peak stones" wherein the creative energy behind the music is sourced from everybody. For example, the contribution of the piano players on volume two is deservedly spotlighted more. Jagger shares more in the band leader role. 3) I don't know who came up with the idea, on both volumes, of making Mick, for the first time ever, as FREE as the guitarists to mess around, go wherever his emotions take him, even skip his parts. A mick jagger unfettered by any commercial constraints or genre conventions, just being himself, is certainly one of the highlights for me of this year, or any year. 4) From what i've read on the stones fan forums, apparently i'm still the only one in possession of these two albums. I don't understand that at all. What's so special about me that I should be blessed this way? Or am I just dreaming? Or worse yet, dead, in some impossibly sweet afterlife? 5) Wish you were here. |

Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Mar 28th, 2021 at 3:07am "they who have ears, let them hear" Matthew 13:43 "there's lots of things in the vault we're working on that are going to come out" mick jagger sep 2020 "new music on the horizon" keith richards feb 2021 1) I promise this is the last time I push this passion project of mine. Sadly, your only compensation for being patient with me is a couple of download links at the end. 2) At the very least, we can agree that the "finished outtakes" can be divided into "substantially new" and "not". 3) A further breakdown could be "artifacts" versus "fresh tracks". Primary amongst the "artifacts" is of course the bowie demo of "iorr". Nobody can argue against its historical importance. But it is not "fresh" in the sense i'm using the word. It hasn't been updated or worked on. 4) Other reasons for non-inclusion of various "outtakes" include "too mick", "too keith","too been-there-done-that", or simply because the track does not have enough of the ragged private-stash vibe that characterizes this collection. 5) Generally speaking, the bonus outtakes on the deluxe albums have mostly been Mick Jagger products, where he's completed the lyrics and re-done the vocals in an approximation of his vocal style at the time of the original session. I appreciate his efforts, but I don't think the results heretofore have been particularly great. The deluxe bonus tracks generally sound like what they are. Concoctions. Imitations. 6) So the first thing i noticed after my first few listens of "fully finished outtakes" was how many tracks sounded not at all like concoctions. Mostly because of the very different way Jagger's vocals and lyrics were handled. 7) But neither did these new tracks sound "raw". Not talking just about the sound quality. Rather it was clear SOMEBODY had recently put in a LOT of post-production work on the music. 8) Specifically (in my opinion) four SOMEBODIES, working in two teams: Keith and Don Was, Mick and Matt Clifford, with Don and Matt handling the negotiations between the teams. A) Keith got the time to layer and color with his guitars, to his heart's content. That's the biggest reason these "Love" tracks have so much classic-Stones depth. B) Another reason is that Don has augmented the bass and Matt the keyboards on many of the tracks. C) And Mick has (happily) agreed that his vocals, whether original or new, be buried somewhat, that is, be used more as an instrument than as a hook. 9) Another important division that has persisted throughout the Stones career is "classic blues rock/big hits/in your face numbers" versus "groove tracks/mood pieces". The "blues rock" and "big hits" categories are obvious. But don't forget the "in your face" tracks have also been key to their huge fame. Stuff like "star fucker", "doom and gloom", "under my thumb", "sister morphine" etc, songs where the theme captures a great deal of the attention. However, for a significant fraction of hardcore fans, including me, the groove tracks and mood pieces are also very important: lyrics minimal or buried, choruses and bridges minimal. Stuff like "turd on the run", "heaven", "pretty beat up", "parachute woman", "just wanna see his face" etc... 8) So that's my contention basically, that out of the 50 tracks we were gifted, there are about 28 that more or less meet these "fresh" criteria, and more or less flow into each other as easily as, for example, the very dissimilar tracks of "sticky fingers" do. Or perhaps a better parallel would be "Tattoo you" with its various recording dates (although the average track on these "Love" albums is far superior to the average track on "Tattoo"). Also: amazingly these new tracks flow without me at all changing the playing order. That's because none of the 28 are "in your face" tracks needing to be placed and spaced carefully. 9) in summary, these two "Love" compilations are strictly a musical journey for we, the few, the proud, the Stones cognizati. I hear these two volumes as a validictory statement by the band, consisting of what they most like about themselves. Not the fame, not the money, not the controversy, not even the hit songs. But rather the MUSIC, both spontaneous and crafted. Commerce for once be damned. And that's why the Stones needed to make these tracks free. Today's market just would never fucking understand. Track 2 is a cover of Otis Redding's 'Don't Mess With Cupid', which was the 1966 b-side of 'My Lover's Prayer', written by Eddie Floyd/Steve Cropper/Deanie Parker.
Here's the original. Quite a song for a non-LP b-side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPHY0YYc6yU The OP's comment seems to suggest he's under the impression the songs are from the same session. Obviously that's not correct. The five songs we already know are from the sessions for the albums that their released versions appeared on - Undercover, Voodoo Lounge and Bridges To Babylon 'Don't Want Somebody Else' opens with the words of one of the studio engineers who also features on some of the sessions of the Voodoo Lounge sessions, so it could be from that session. 'Dont Mess with Cupid'. Presumably from the early or mid 80's, so either Undercover or Dirty Work sessions. My guess its the former. Ronnie still likes this song He played a few licks from it on his radio show in 2011. |

Have to say the song I keep going back to from this collection is 'Still In Love With You'. No doubt there's some overdubs added post-1983 but it really turned out to be a lot better than what anyone could have foreseen in the various outtakes that have been circulating over the last few decades.
Absolutely gorgeous track, and a hook to die for. |

Mick Jagger talking about the Bridges to Babylon
recording sessions: "I mean, in the end, it's not like, you know, Bitches Brew. We're not going off into the stratosphere. Just a little bit. The grooves are a little bit different." Wikipedia on Bitches Brew: "As usual with Miles Davis's recording sessions, he gave a few instructions, a tempo count, a few chords or a hint of melody, and suggestions as to mood or tone. Davis liked to work this way. He thought it forced musicians to pay close attention to one another. Bitches Brew also pioneered (for jazz) the application of the studio as a musical instrument, using editing as a form of composition." 1) Indulge me for a minute. What if we are to take the title "fully finished outtakes" literally? What if the 28 tunes i've highlighted have indeed been worked on substantially and are in their INTENDED final form? What then? 2) I'll tell you "what then": the Stones would have invented a new genre of rock music. 3) Like all new music genres, it certainly has antecedents. Besides the Miles/jazz connection, if we are just referencing the Stones, the earliest is the final 8 minutes of "goin' home". 4) The radical thing about many of the tracks on The Love Volumes is they purposely exist in this unexplored territory between jams and songs. Including vocalizing emotive semi-words. 5) Obviously this is not far removed from what the Stones have done in the studio for decades. Start with a riff and run with it. The problems started when Mick got sick of being left holding the bag, of having to complete the lyrics/melodies/song structures in order to get the material into shape for the market. 6) So up til recently there have been only two choices. Shape the band's real music into something commercial, or abandon it. But now we suddenly have this new third choice. Like Miles Davis, use the studio to perfect the groove you've already found, not to make it more palatable to the average consumer (who is no longer interested in the Stones) 7) We need a name for this new genre. A name that encompasses some very different tracks, from "keep it cool" to "covered with bruises". I've looked through at least a thousand names of musical forms and styles hoping to find one I could adapt or steal, but no luck. A not-catchy-enough name would be "charlie watts rock", because charlie doesn't like rock, but he does like this kind of playing, because of its similarities to jazz. (charlie's performances on "the love volumes" are a particular treat, often so powerful that he's not just guiding the band, he's leading it) 8) short music lesson: "keep it cool". a lot of people apparently hear this track as not-much-happening. I hear it as the band seamlessly moving through about 10 variations on a theme. and all these variations are achieved without harmonica, sax, or background singers. remarkable. also, its not coincidental that both Outtakes and Bitches contain a track called "sanctuary" 9) In acting and in jazz, the phrase "polished improvisation" is sometimes used. Bitches Brew is also often called jazz-rock. but The Love Volumes are too distinct from Bitches to share a category. Names like "groove rock","cool rock","babylon rock", "voodoo rock" are all in use to some extent and not encompassing enough. 10) So for now, "finished outtakes" is not just the title of the bootleg, its also the best name we have so far for this new genre. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but I can't come up with a better one. 11) Hey. Wait a minute. I said I hated the title "dog shit" for one of my favorite tracks. But I gotta admit "dog shit rock" or just plain "dog shit" as the ironic genre name is kinda perfect. 12) "Dog Shit" it is! "There is nothing I want so much as some more dog shit." "Next album I hope the Stones don't go back to cleaning up all the dog shit" "Oh man, Love volume 3 is just as great. The Stones have really stepped in it again!" 13) Yeah, "dog shit" works. But I still like "God Shit" better. I don't know, whichever is less offensive. |

Mick Fails to Seduce Young Woman
(on Love Volume Two, for musical reasons i sequenced "Sanctuary" into "Tried To Talk Her Into It". It turns out the themes of the songs sequence as well, and both themes are very unusual. I don't have all the lyrics, but I have enough of them. In "sanctuary" mick plays a creepy-voiced version of himself, using his money, fame and wits to manuever a damsel towards his bedroom) *sanctuary* baby, come right in and baby, come sit down can i get you something to drink? would you like to look around? *sanctuary* you are so beautiful, ah-huh *you got to love somebody* i don't want to stop sugar its alright *you got to love somebody* baby, i've been waiting i've been wanting to tell the world about it you don't want to stop i tell ya, change my world cry to me, baby, its alright *you got to love somebody* (Then, in "tried to talk her into it", mick reveals that his seduction failed ) i tried to talk her into it one sweet night of love i tried to say to what extent my love for her was heaven sent i tried to talk her into it i tried to mess her into it i tried to drink her into it one sweet night of love i tried to talk her into it i gave her money, she refused what would you do? Woo! One sweet night of love (and how does mick feel about his seduction failing? this is what's so unusual, he celebrates it with a hoedown! Like Diogenes searching the earth for an honest man, mick has at last found an honest woman, and fallen in love. Woo!) |

The Love track that came closest to not making my compilation
was "dream about", because of its conventional song structure and finished lyrics. Mick obviously brought this one into the studio completely written. But it made the cut because of the intimate vocal, the sorta-Sade beat, the misty instrumental washes, and frankly, because it brought a tear to my eye... Lighten up a little bit, baby And put a smile upon your face Lighten up a little bit, baby Put on some powder and some paint Lighten up a little bit, babe Put on some silk, put on some lace C'mon, sugar Let's see your broken smile Broad as the River Nile C'mon now, babe Put on some powder and some paint When all's said and done We had the biggest fun Accept my fond regrets Let's stay the best of friends And goodbye to the gilded youth And so long to the velvet rooms and the pain that is burning right in my heart And goodbye to the gilded youth and so long, if you need the proof Feel the wounds that you gouged right into my heart Don't you worry about a thing now, babe Just because the train is pulling out Wipe away those tears now Put some lipstick on your mouth No star-eyed view, I know your heart is bruised but you can't put the clock right back to the start |

20 Nil
a 5:45 tour de force from keith nobody else can play like this, not taylor, not clapton, not hendrix nobody to be honest, keith can't play like this except he did, for 5 minutes and 45 seconds on this one particular night in the studio captured on tape. i feel like i've sighted a thylacine whatever mick's singing, its not important, i think he's just saying a stream-of-consciousness version of "go fuckin keith go", like a surreal carnival barker, like an invocation of his demon brother as keith just crushes it ("20 nil" is a measurement of crushed stone)* completely in the moment, totally visceral pure feeling no thought chords and notes squeezed and pulled til they're all but vocalized. i can't say i've ever heard anything cooler, in terms of playing, from the forever king of cool and mick's not the only one hyped up on what keith's laying down -- charlie's drums are in a conversation with keith, egging him on perfectly realized god shit. *sigh* wish more could hear it. Yeah wish more could hear it (approx lyrics) Yeah, get it out of your hair everyone out on the street are on it Get it out of your hair ahh, the press is insane, yeah, lets pull it off yeah, wenches exclaim, get in there yeah, ahh, get out of here now get out of the path whoa killer atmosphere the bitches are hypnotized ahhh get out of here cant get them out of the path yeah, i wanna see you on him oh i just want to be fair yeah i betcha his face's upon this yeah i'll never let her out of there its hard to call upon you you could never get her yes its hard to call her, upon him yeah can't get them out of there * i have been informed that "20 nil" is also a rugby score. so yeah, mick could alternatively be a surreal coach or announcer, with keith crushing it that way on the playing field. whatever. |

And this track here is among their best, a get-your-ass-moving one-song street-fest. Keith and Ronnie lock in together as only those two can. Not The Way to Go (approx lyrics. from back when it was legal for mick to sing in patois. the music may be upbeat, but mick is not pleased with what he's been seeing on the news. somebody's been telling tales out of school) sunburnt baby, quitting on a dollar rooming house raid, i'm-a dob in everyone it's not the way to go sunburnt baby, quitting on a dollar rooming house raid, i'm-a dob in everyone it's not the way to go hey nah nah baby, i'm worried about it too and i turned sunburnt, worried about you it's not the way to go eyes on my baby and now war on tv putting out flames and talking about me that's not the way to go hey now sunburnt baby, that's not in the movies the thing i must say, when they talking about me it's not the way to go hey my sunburnt babe, on the toll telephone picking all the fans off, singing, i say... that's not the way to go that's not the way |

its kinda unfair to mick, from a literary perspective,
to put into writing approximations of unfinished lyrics, but from a musical perspective, these unpolished vocal takes of his are just so damn refreshing. i've watched the noomi rapace "doom and gloom" vid at least 25 times. Love it. And how many times have i put on the audio version for a musical thrill? zero. Its a soundtrack tune, for the vid, for Avengers Endgame (but certainly not for a Scorcese movie) so in contrast here we have an audio track i've grooved to at least 50 times already. No vid, no forced bridge, no uninspired chorus, no news commentary, just the band at full tilt. i'm obviously not criticizing any of Jagger's market/media manipulations, which i greatly admire, and which have maintained the Stones as a significant commercial force for six decades. And i look forward to more such nonsense shortly, when there is a 60th greatest hits package to flog. but as far as my personal preference in 2021, give me more finished outtakes please. Give me more of keith and charlie's version of the Stones. Its time to put the bow on the package. You Better Stop That On this track Mick meditates on that critical moment in a love affair, when its not smooth sailing anymore, when you have to decide if it's still worth the effort... (approx lyrics) what is her point of view? what have you been going thru? Judy lets you want a muse Yeah but shes got the blues feeling underwater loom i know what youre going through aint that what you call a love? a savior? a sailing love? an insane love? undecided love? judy wants a way to prove baby that shes got the belt on you she won't let you go to the loo you gotten burned by fire i dont want your alpha bit she knows you abandoned it youre now in a world of shit (baby... dont abandon... some more... the sea of love) you better stop that you better stop that judy wants your point of view look at what you're going through aint no way she can be pleased yes yes yes let her go she wants a world of shit boy won't you abandon it? you can never, can be brave faded love fell down in love youve abandon love youve abandoned love whosoever point at you boy am i going to if you got unrequited love not a sailing love not a sailing love you better stop that you better drop that |

continuing disclaimer: mick is singing/slurring rough-draft lyrics,
being more concerned with the sounds and emotions than the words. but i find it fascinating to hear/mishear him in the midst of shaping an idea. Built That Way 1) not mick or keith's composing style, so i'm guessing that it started with a 1950's sorta new orleans vamp between charlie and the piano player. its a nice change to hear charlie playing without his usual restraint. 2) the lyrics are a variation on the rolling stone/tumbling dice theme: sorry, darl, love ya but i gotta move on 3) but there's humor to it too. mick knows its only partly true, and partly kind of a convenient excuse: sorry, darl, its this tragic flaw i have, its just the way i'm built, bye 4) he's not sloganeering, like with gaga's "born this way". He's just a lucky guy being offered a lot of loving. he's not ungrateful but, to be honest, for him at this point its just sorta his life style. 5) in other words, he's just living his best life, playing the hand he's been dealt. He's not moralizing or immoralizing about how YOU should or shouldnt live your very different life. cleared my head on a highway south i'm on a phone that is on the way hid in my hole and was ten years old i was thirty thousand miles away i'll be on time and i said one prayer we dont wanna spend our cash baby, and i'm built that way i dont want it anyway thank you for your love today i dont need it anyway yeah, on my face, nineteen ninety-four on a hundred seventy dollars a day i see no women, down a cool blonde town, down the hall and its tucked away i dont mind if you shoot at craps but i dont want to take your trash hey but i'm built that way cant help it if i'm built that way i held my plan, i'm gonna run it down and the drums upon the fire all day it dont seem, while much too much, it only seems that i've much to say i dont mind if i'm second class but i dont want to take your train honey leave your love away i dont need it anyway baby, leave your love today i dont need it anyway i cant help it if i'm built that way i cant help it if i'm built that way hey hey hey dont need it anyway |

"a song with the refrain "Oh lil Liza, lil Liza Jane" was sung by slaves before the American Civil War. The name "Eliza Jane" was a standard character in minstrel shows. A "Liza Jane" tune was first published in 1871. The book "Negro Folk-Songs", published in 1918, documents a version associated with a dancing game. Couples would dance in a circle, with an extra woman in the middle. The extra woman would "steal" one of the men, the odd woman out then going into the center, this process repeating." here's a few more of the many variants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poqGMKLEzGQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNNfqh-iJXs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdrwAn4UVDc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or5w8Zg8rdI and some lyrics from a 1903 version that perhaps inspired jagger: Look a’ here, Liza, listen to me You ain’t the gal you promised to be Didn’t you say you always would be true? Good-bye, Eliza Jane But i think jagger takes it a step farther, in that he's more understanding in his attitude towards eliza. Yeah, she's back on the streets again, but as somebody once said, she just can't be chained to a life where nothing's gained, and nothing's lost. I mean, she can't help it if she's built that way. A discreet and poetic way for mick to write about Ronnie (who named his kid "jesse james" in 1976. Also, James/Jim/Jimmy echoes Woods/Wood/Woody) And it sounds like one of ronnie's girlfriends "anna" (undoubtedly an "eliza jane" type) was just as wild. Anyway, since my opinion is that ronnie wood is the most underrated player in rock'n'roll history, i think its great that mick has written a tribute to the joyous gypsy madman who saved the Stones. (approx lyrics - this is my edit of an existing transcription from another website) C'mon on over, Fiji Jim, your full name is Billy James Tell him to bring his electric guitar, the poor boy's going insane Then we'll duck two bars away, snort an ounce of cocaine Took myself about fifty-five darts*, six-pack more of champagne Better watch out for Fiji Jim, come up and spend the day Come on and bring your wah-wah pedal, then let's go on stage Ronnie brought about fifty thousand kids, and slipped down in the rain Fell to the beat to the 25th floor, the white girl's gone insane Better watch out for smooth sly Anna. Pilchard** is out for a raid Come up on feet to the 25th floor, the poor chick's gone insane He bust two ribs, he bust two arms, his legs is just stumps in the rain His brain is shred, his nose is bled, but his hands, they sure can play Better watch out for cool sly Anna, come on Billy James Come on bring your electric guitar because these boys are just so gonna play Come on down Miss Suicide Anna, Fiji Jim's gonna reign Tell him to bring his wah-wah pedal, the boys are going insane * slang for tobacco and/or marijuana cigarettes (also slang for syringes) ** Norman “Nobby” Pilcher (re-named "pilchard" in i am the walrus), notorious cop who busted various Stones and Beatles. Cooking Up aka Coking Up? yeah, maybe its just joy the band is feeling, or maybe its more than that. either way, they are for sure cooking. the two ians, dueling pianos. neither keith nor ronnie breaking stride. leaving absolutely no space for a melody. no space for mick. so mick does something so weird and wonderful and counter-intuitive. instead of hyping himself up to match the brilliance of his speedfreak band, he goes the opposite way. Moron lyrics sung in a voice like he's dead drunk... And by some strange alchemy it works to perfection... (approx lyrics) oo-ee oo-ee dangerous say you love me and you want me say you dont, say you win say you love and youre more of a man you say you love me bay-oh-bee you say love me and hold me say you mean it, say you cant you say you love me and come on back say you mean it and say you wont you say you will and then you wont say you really love me you say you will and be my wife you say you will and hold me you say you love me and you cant come home you say you rock and you roll me yeah you say baby you say you rock and you roll me you say you will and you cant go home you say you will and you hold me and love me, hold me, save me you say you will and you cant go home you say youre lonely and you fall in love you say you will and you go on home then you said, woo woo woo, lets go home you say you want, you say you wont you feel lonely and you feel my love if youre winning when i win your love then i say thats true truish love hold me if you love me and you cant really love me you say you really really want me you say you didnt, and you hold me you say you will and you say you wont do you or do you really want me say you will, say you wont you say you will but you cant go home you say you want, you say you wont you say you will and then you wont you say you will and you say you wont love me no matter what wont get you get scared and you run away you say you will and you run on home you say you will and you say you wont |

(mojoman, cheers!)
You say you really love the Stones ? Prove it. Their New 7" Available Now Yeah, I wish. My point is that its not only the Stones' music that is incompatible with today's market. Its also the unflinching realism of their lyrics. Can you imagine if all these sex and drugs tracks were officially released in this day and age? With the words made clear? The stones would be tarred and feathered, including by half the puritans on the iorr forum. Much better strategy to keep it all undercover. Keep it all out of sight. Sneak it out to those in the know. With almost nobody knowing the words. Deep Love 1) this tune is one that seems to show heavy recent post-production 2) i started to write a rave review for charlie's war drums on this one, but according to the musician listing on the top of this page, its chuck leavell on drums! No fucking way. It also gives "percussion" credits to steve jordan and charley drayton. So i still wish it was watts, but its probably drayton on drums 3) if you listen to keith's vocal take on this (from previous bootlegs), its a plaintive cry. But now, by beefing up the drums and the guitars, and with mick's vocal aggression, the underlying power of the original track is tripled. (approx lyrics) Whoa yeah You say you love me, baby. true deep love. You say it's me baby, you're thinking of So if you really want me, give me deep love you say you're crazy for me. then prove it. with deep love. ah yeah. oh yeah you can fight it, bite it, eat it or diet it dont mean a thing to me you can feed it, heat it, you wont defeat it you gotta let it happen naturally ah yeah. oh yeah. you got it pretty for me. deep love. you better tell me quick. your real love. you say you really want me. give me deep love. you say youre crazy for me. give me deep love. yeah oh yeah i might be lying. its cheap love. might keep you waiting. for deep love. oh yeah you berate it, hate it, decided not to try it it don't mean nothing to me you can blame it, frame it, even try to tame it its the pleasure for me naturally oh yeah you say you want it badly. how bad? deep love. don't be lying. with cheap love. just say you love me, baby. yeah. cheap love. c'mon follow me. give it up. i might have once wallowed. gimme deep love. |

Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on May 29th, 2021 at 6:27pm Troubles a Coming hopefully i'm hearing these words wrong. very bleak. reminds me of mick's "too far gone". not musically, just the theme. musically this track is an upper, a classic pump-along with charlie and bill. with the best kind of guitar weaving, where its keith and ronnie in a musical conversation, and not just ronnie filling in spaces. anyway, back to the doom and gloom... there's a story, maybe apocryphal, of mick and keith in an airliner that goes into a nosedive. there's of course screaming and crying. but keith just takes out his guitar and him and mick start laughing and singing their way into their next lives. or, as keith once put it, "what else can you do but keep on rocking and hope for the best" amen. (approx lyrics) well i can hear all the people talking i can hear the planet warping "Troubles a coming", always that one if you take me a ways from here then i wont be a thousand years trouble is coming, youre gonna pay for having fun Trouble is coming, always that one get it together well i can know what the Pope's delivering i said, excuse me for living i'm in a prison and love is the key if you want, now get together well i know i'm not thinking of how troubles a coming, you can see the death of hope trouble is coming, something wants to steal your hope the trouble is bad youre stripped of all hope trouble is coming youre cheated of hope got to say, the death of hope trouble is coming, seeing the death of hope well i can hear all the people talking i can hear the planet warping "Troubles a coming", always that one if you take me a ways from here then i wont be a thousand years trouble is coming, youre gonna pay for having fun trouble is coming, always that one ooh get it together well i can know what the Pope delivers i said, excuse me for living i'm in a prison and love is the key if you want, now get together i said i know i'm not thinking of how trouble is coming, you can see the death of hope trouble is coming, something wants to steal your hope Sep 20, 2017 Vatican City — Continuing his series of audience talks on Christian hope, Pope Francis gave extensive advice on how to teach people, especially young people, to remain full of hope. Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on May 31st, 2021 at 5:39pm She's Doing Her Thing marianne makes a nice picture sleeve, but i don't think this song is necessarily about her. its probably about brian again, like "miss amanda jones" (approx lyrics by frtylicks at iorr dot org) Ladies and Gentlemen, Ladies and Gentlemen, for your pleasure, for your pleasure, the Stones, I think she's out playing, do you know where she's staying, what odds are you laying? She's doing her thing, No! She's doing her thing, Oh! She's doing her thing, You say she's a baby, well thats just cause maybe, I hear that she's crazy, But, doing her thing, But, doing her thing But, doing her thing, Oh! Am i who will save her, all the years that you gave her, she says thanks for the favor! She's doing her thing, Yeah She's doing her thing, She's doing her thing, oh no! Oh yeah! I know who's she blaming, i hope you dont name names , She's doing her thing, what? She's doing her thing, Oh! She's doing her thing, Oh! I think she's out playing, do you know where she's staying, what odds are you laying? She's doing her thing, what? She's doing her thing, Yeah! She's doing her thing, M-huh! Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Jun 1st, 2021 at 8:04am Dog Shit this was the first of these outtakes to blow me away, so i complained about it being titled "dog shit". more like "god shit" i thought. but it seems mick is playing with the old superstition that it is good luck to step in dog shit, so now i'm cool with the title. i enjoy it whenever mick speculates a little on the subject of luck. i guess most people think that the science of probability explains everything, but mick seems to have at least a little bit of a karmic philosophy. as great as the stones are, and as hard and as smart as they have pursued their career, mick and keith have never discounted the element of luck that has seemed to "dog" them. specifically here mick seems to be talking about how his "bad" love affairs have often led him to a better place... (approx lyrics, keithgotsoul at iorr dot org posted partial lyrics, and i have tried to complete them) Maybe ugly, maybe blue Maybe someone I cant talk to Maybe funny, maybe serious So long, you've been good to me So long, You’ve been bad to me So long, i say that that’s good luck You’ve been ugly You’ve been cruel You’ve been something I can’t refuse Maybe six or seven lives but... Bad luck, since you’re dogging me Bad luck, its been bothering you Bad luck, its so new that its... Gassed up! so long woman Since you left, I ain’t been alive Seven days been gone and what you need is anyone Bad luck, but i've been bad too Good luck, its so elusive Bad news, since i been with you Good love, bad for every woman Maybe happy, maybe ecstatic You sent me on to your toys in the attic i maybe love that part of you, but youre bad luck! i wasn’t bothering you You made me horny, you made me mad Made me something I never had Call me soon when it’s soon enough, but it’s bad luck Bad luck, for somebody Good luck, she’s going along with it Bad luck, somebody will Made me problems, so damn sad almost the best thing I ever had Made me loose and it made me low, and it’s Bad luck, to get inside you Good luck, come and see me Good love, is supersonic So long woman Bad luck, bad luck, she taught me to keep smiling yeah Keep moving yeah, keep driving now So long, somebody lost, so long, somebody wins Bad luck, it starts with you it was sure pain but I run for you |

Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Jun 9th, 2021 at 12:38pm Its A Lie I remember an interviewer asking Mick why he never seemed to write anything personal, and Mick responded that on the contrary sometimes what he wrote seemed embarassingly personal from his point of view. I think there's a lot of songs that are obviously reflective of a particular 17 years, when he was with Jerry and the kids, but also away on his own pursuing his career and, uh, other passions. I've often complimented Mick on how expertly he, uh, shades the truth. And how necessary it is to do so if youre a big rockstar with powerful libido, who wants and needs a family life too. (approx lyrics) if i'm looking on the quiet, baby looking for it, forward and raving loving up those (who) can ride and ride if i'm looking for the fast times if i'm looking for your virginal ride loving my love and rolling right now if you cry, yeah you can cry you can moan, you can live, alright ? if i'm loving you, baby, why should i, why ? now you can lie, now you can lie you can hold your head and pine if i'm loving now, baby, why should i pine ? if i'm oft in the river, woman searching for a ride and sawn apart goodbye love, and you know thats why i lied yeah, now listen now it ain't right, now it ain't right you can shake your head and cry if i'm loving you, woman, why should i, why ? now its why, wife, its a crime ? you can hold your head and cry if i'm loving my woman, why should i lie ? thats a lie, it ain't right, now it ain't right you can look in on her by surprise if i'm loving you, baby, why should i pine ? shouldnt pine now its a lie, its a lie its a low-down dirty lie if i'm loving my woman, why should i lie ? yeah |
Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Jun 11th, 2021 at 2:46pm Putty In Your Hands written by John Patton and Eddie Snyder, original recording by the Shirelles Mick has strayed from (and improved the flow of) the original lyrics in places, but nothing that changes the overall meaning this is a key point: mick cheated and lied to maintain his sense of self. if he had been constant, he'd have been putty in her hands. Uh-huh. (approx lyrics, as transcribed by frty licks/40 Licks, and edited by me) You say stop and I stop You say jump and I jump you say stay and I stay Anything you want, you get it right away I'm just like putty, putty in your hands, uh-huh With one wave of your hand, I'm your slave to command, but I know youre so cruel, everybody says, now dont you be no fool, I'm just like putty, putty in your hands, uh-huh just like putty, putty in your hands, uh-huh You can build me until I'm ten feet tall Or bring me down like a rubber ball you can deflate me, inflame me, but dont you replay me, without your love, i'm nothing at all You say stop and I stop you say pop and I pop You say jump and I jump Anything you want, you got it all wrong, I'm just like putty, putty in your hands, uh-huh, uh-huh I'm just like putty, putty in your hands, uh-huh, You can build me and i'm 10 feet tall, knock me down with a 10 foot pole, you can use me, defuse me, but dont you refuse me, without your love, i'm nothing, nothing at all They say that youre so cruel you treat me so cool, you made me so sad, anything you want, but dont you treat me bad, I'm just like putty, putty in your hands, uh-huh Just like putty, putty in your hands, uh-huh |

Covered In Bruises this song is a drunken blast, the band is just tearing it up. The first five listens, about all i heard was chaos, but now each instrument is clear for me. and rocking. and its funny as hell when mick and ronnie are singing different lyrics at the same time, but it works. it paints a blur of emotions, like when youve gotten yourself in way too far way too fast (approx lyrics, very approx) baby i dont want your love baby i dont want your loving love its a fine way to find that youve been a fool yeah i'm freezing fighting for your love seeking trying to find it baby, i want/don't want your love baby, i want/don't want your love yeah, baby, i know, a quick set is fine yeah i know, yeah i'm sore baby, just one more day, because i'm about to go yeah-ay, the two of you/you don't go blind just far far far far eyes then four more sore eyes/ cake cake cake take take it baby, i don't want your love i do i do i do i do i don't baby, i want/dont want your love baby, i want/dont want your love yeah she's covered in bruises yeah, you got me/covered in bruises yes, she's covered in booze she's covered in bruises you can take me for a deep dive/ covered stand up stand up stand up yeah, stand up covered stand up she got me covered in booze baby, i don't want your love i do i do i do i do i don't baby, i want/dont want your love baby, i want/dont want your love covered in bruises covered in covered in covered in baby, i want/don't want your love |

(Voo, you the man. Stones the band. and Rocks Off the land (of the free)!)
Tell Her How It Is People talk about the fog of war, wherein the truth is all but invisible. But remember this is also the situation within the fog of love. And people talk about war heroes. but they should also be building statues to love heroes. and not just the ones that lived two or three thousand years ago. (on this track keith's monster guitar gives a lesson in leadership. i was going to compliment taylor on how well his wah-wah meshed with keith, but apparently its stephen stills) (approx lyrics) shall i tell you how it is ? should i tell you how i lie ? shall i tell it like it is ? oh my my can i tempt you with a lie ? do you wanna hear a lie ? do you wanna hear it ? talk, baby shall i tell it like it is ? shall i tell you how i lie ? everybody gonna feel it everybody wondering how hey i'm talking about a bad thing dont go false now fuck them all, baby mmm and i fell by now not talking about it lonely, fuck that shall i talk about my lil baby ? shall i talk about it to you now ? can you give it to me, hon ? can you give it to me now ? do you wanna hear the truth, girl ? or do you wanna hear a lie ? do you wanna hear the truth ? ah-oh... yeah... nah... now a good rain will fall upon a loving house oh yeah, oh yeah now now now now now now call up the rain, fall down falling on down down down oh yeah oh yeah down now fall down now now now now coming down, falling down |
Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Jun 16th, 2021 at 9:36am Dream About on the musician list on the previous page, it says this one is all-mick. that he even did the beat using a charlie watts sample. i don't believe it. while i dont doubt that an all-mick demo exists, i dont think this is it. i think this is the stones. but i cant know that for certain. regarding the lyrics, it feels so damn good when mick expresses his love for the band and the fans. he cant afford these kind of sentiments very often. everybody counts on him to be the strong one. thats his lot in life. bit of a curse for him i think, but quite a blessing for us. Title: Re: New bootleg available - Fully Finished Outtakes Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Jun 24th, 2021 at 7:19pm So thats it. With more intense listening, my original 28 selections got whittled down to 24. For me the whole thing has been a peak stones experience. Just like the good old days, this music was different enough that it took me a while to be fully shocked by how brilliant it is. Even then, I figured there wouldnt be much, in terms of lyrics, in the buried vocals. But slowly i discovered a shocking amount of treasure there too. do i still think that these "finished outtakes" were intentionally released by mick and keith ? yes, that seems obvious to me do i have beyond-a-reasonable-doubt smoking-gun proof of that ? nope what i do have is (and a short time ago this was beyond my wildest imaginings) two NEW stones albums, and they are two of the best albums i have ever heard. So now, back to listening purely for pleasure... |

Thank you very much to Rev..
Yet, call me old-fashioned, but 'Dog Shit' vocally / lyrically sounds like a collection of thoughts about old girlfriends, even the desire to keep in touch with them kinetically/emotionally/teasingly. There may be is too much wax in my ears, but 'Dog Shit' starts oddly(Marianne-ly?) with "Maybe ugly, man in blue" (a bobby) Afterwards it sounds like Jogger is singing: "Bad luck, 'Ive just been bothering you" (rather than It's just been bothering you"; "You saved me me under the toys in the attic. I maybe love that part of you, but you're... bad love (luck?)', plus "I'm sill admirin' ya, Good stuff. It’s been a long ..baby. Sill admiri’ her.... plus a few other lines I'd query which you typed. Most intetestngly, perhaps, or just in haste - you heard 'So long woman" instead of "So long Mama". Happy days. |

Typical for these times, different people will interpret today's Daily Mail story in vastly different ways... About half will think it is mostly about Jagger blatantly breaking the covid rules. The other half will take away the "news" that the mythical official new album is finally on its way. But then there's me. I see it as unoffical confirmation that Love Volumes 1 & 2 were intentionally released by the Stones, and that more such great new stuff is on the horizon. More dogshit ! So this is the real headline as far as my biased mind is concerned: album of remastered "basement" tracks ' Mick is working on the material with band-mates Ronnie Wood, 74, and Charlie Watts, 80, in the UK, while Keith Richards, 77, contributes from his home in the US Here's the link. Interpret as you will... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9769523/Mick-Jagger-BROKE-lockdown-rules-watch-England-game-Wembley-flying-France.html |

I still love playing these tunes. I do wonder now though if this was the 3 volume set and there aren't 2 more waiting to drop.

Since the new Tattoo You 40th anniversary edition will have 5LPs or 4CDs I hope some or many of these will be there

Supposedly there'll be an announcement about the Tattoo You reissue very very soon, so it'll be interesting to see if any of these songs are amongst the 9 or so additional tracks that Woody mentioned in a recent interview

I'll guess that a LOT of the tracks will be the same. Except ruined. The pattern has been set with "scarlet". The thrilling "finished outtake" version is way way superior to the "goats head deluxe" one that was needlessly cluttered up by Jimmy Page (nothing against Jimmy, in this instance he just didnt add anything, in fact he detracted. you can't win em all. the only thing Page's contribution provided was publicity) The only reason i left "scarlet" off the "love volumes" is that "goats head" got there first and i wanted the volumes to be 100% fresh. but the scarlet "outtake" rules in every way so i can already hear me bitching "look what they done to my songs, ma" which makes no sense. i got the real thing already so, i mean, so what if the world thinks what i got are the fakes, and that the over-produced crap they got on "tattoo deluxe" is real. real is fake, and fake is real, and thats just the way of the world in 2021 |

Bad guess, revvy. At least going by "living in the Heart of Love". I'm still keeping it in my "been there done that" category, but at least the guts of the "outtake" have been preserved and the sound quality improved The keys for me will be "Fiji Jim" and "Trouble's a-coming", two of the best and most important tracks on the "outtakes". Preserve the guts and improve the sound, so i can plug em into my "love volumes" |

I know it was reported that there were 3 volumes planned/in existence, but who really knows. It was never really put out there how these first 50 tracks (volume 1) were even "leaked/released". I hope there's more down the road...so much better than these reissues with the add-ons. I hope we dont have to wait for UNDERCOVER / SW / VL/ B2B reissued/anniversary releases. |
