Mojo ran a real good story on Dr. John approaching the sunset and reminiscing about NO music.  I don't recall the exact issue, but it was within the last couple years.  I'll update if I can link to a copy.

Keith Richards Reveals Tragic News From Doctor
By Brett Buchanan -  Jun 7, 2019

The Rolling Stones icons Keith Richards and Mick Jagger have announced their thoughts on the death of Dr. John, Malcolm John Rebennack, an American singer-songwriter. Mick Jagger recently shared an emotional photo where he passionately kissed a The Rolling Stones bandmate.

Mick Jagger wrote, “Will really miss you Dr. John, I remember all our night tripping !”

Keith Richards wrote, “Love you, Mac! RIP.”

CNN reports:

Dr. John, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a six-time Grammy winner, died Thursday morning from a heart attack, said publicist and social media manager Karen Beninato. Dr. John, whose real name was Malcolm John Rebennack Jr, was 77. Beninato’s post on Dr. John’s Facebook page said memorial arrangements will be announced. Dr. John “created a unique blend of music which carried his home town, New Orleans, at its heart, as it was always in his heart,” she wrote.

“In 1966, I photographed each individual member of the Rolling Stones at home so as to create a stock library of these more personal and individual images for press use. By this time there was an increasing demand for such images and the band hated the idea of having unknown photographers coming to their homes.

Keith is photographed here at his glorious home Redlands in West Sussex with his beloved Bentley motor car, which he called Blue Lena after the great singer Lena Horne. By this time, Keith and I had become pretty close, and the entire day was a joy of picture taking and giggling with Keith showing his own particular take of this rather cheesy ‘at home’ format!”

Alternative Nation and their associated sites have recently resorted to tabloid-type headlines to drive viewership.

Inspired work pulling in all these videos, Voo.

The Doctor made some great records with No Stones Content, manipulating the musical and personality conventions of New Orleans' post-war musicology into a sound and image all his own.  (Like the sly seducer he done were.)  It was show-biz of the highest, most elusive kind.  Influenced the gritty from "Love Is Strong" and Mick's Baron Samedi stage outfit 1994, to the junkyard dog snarl-and-howl of Tom Waits. "Right Place, Wrong Time" was a great blast of fresh air in the primal days of FM rock radio in the US, and sandwiched nicely with the Stevie Wonder funk-pop that was playlisted at the same time.  I wish I could live forever in these memories.

According to Wikipedia this is what Dr. John did for Exile on Main Street

Exile on Main St., The Rolling Stones (Rolling Stones Records, 1972) - piano, backing vocals on "Let It Loose"; backing vocals on "All Down the Line"
