1. Exile
2. Some Girls
3. Sticky Fingers
4. Beggars Banquet
5. Let It Bleed
6. Tattoo You
7. The Rolling Stones
8. Aftermath
9. Bridges To Babylon
10. IORR
11. Out of Our Heads
12. Blue and Lonesome
13. The Rolling Stones No.2

23. Dirty Work

Think thats 'em all.

Only counting the UK releases. Not these weird early US versions with similar track listings.

The top 6 never changes.  The order of #2 & #3 sometimes changes depending on my mood, but 'Some Girls' probably gets the nod for sentimental reasons as it was the album that got me into them in a big way.

The bottom five is pretty constant too.  The middle part of that list could vary widely.

'Blue and Lonesome' is the Stones' worst ever album? Really? I think you're the first Stones fan I've met who didnt like it.  :-/

A Bigger Bang above Between The Buttons, Black and Blue, Emotional Rescue, and even Dirty Work?

A Bigger Bang is like the worst Morrissey solo album.

When they force out material, they're lucky to come out on the good side of bad: Satanic Majesties', Undercover.  On ABB the luck ran out.  Their career nadir.

I don't even think Satanic is bad at all. If you remove the Sing This All Together (See What Happens) song you have a pretty solid album. An album with songs like Citadel, 2000 Light Years from Home, She's A Rain and The Lantern ain't a bad record. They should've tacked on the Dandelion and We Love You singles and trimmed Gomper a bit. It'd be one of the best of 67 if they did that.

Long ago I gave up trying to rank their records.

With that said, here's what I've been listening to over the past few weeks:

Blue and Lonesome
Undercover

Right now those are my favorite two!

Obviously there are at least two great songs on Satanic Majesties', and at least one on Undercover.  What they share with ABB is that they sound forced-out, trying too hard to capture a style or fulfill a contract.  A lot of albums by a lot of people have been forced out, but the trick is to not let the audience hear it.

I would never slag the best songs on Satanic Majesties', and Citadel is a portrait of where it could have gone if they weren't trying to beat the Beatles to modernity.  Citadel should have been the first song on an inspired album.

No need to overanalyse whether its 'forced' or not. Either you like the songs or you dont.

Theres some utter turds on ABB and some really juvenile lyrics, but theres a lot of solid songs on it too and one or two gems.  'Dangerous Beauty' is a terrific song that ticks all the boxes for me.  Topical and humourous lyrics, thunderous drums and the best riff on any Stones record in over two decades.

Thats kinda funny...I too liked the song...but actually thought the topical lyrics were rather forced...as well as Jaggers gasps at the end of every line (I just listened to it)...if I didnt know the song was about that Female Marine...I wouldn't have cared about the "forced" part...

Did we ever get your stance on Emotional Rescue?

Ugh.  We're fortunate that their lyrics didn't take a literal turn like this in the late sixties.  The riff -like too many on ABB - is so generic and impersonal that the song couldn't be used as a successful Stones cover by a bar band.

On riffs alone - much less as an exhibition of talent - there's no way ABB can be rated higher than Between the Buttons. "My Obsession," "Complicated" and "Miss Amanda Jones" are non-hit deep cuts with unforgettable riffs, even if one is copped from Chuck Berry..

ABB was wrought by the mind that gave us "Back to Zero" and "Winning Ugly."  It's up there on the dissatisfaction scale with Dylan's Under the Red Sky.

Hated the disco era Title song...loved Dance....and Send it to me......always though that would have been a good live one. Middle of the road album for me knocked down a notch by the cringe worth Arab charger bs

6 - Black & Blue
7 - Let It Bleed
8 - Goats Head Soup
9 - Between The Buttons
10 - Tattoo You
11 - Aftermath
12 - IORR
13 - Bridges To Babylon
14 - No 2

Do I really prefer #9 over #11? Not really. It's not until you get to around #20 that I actually see a few albums I don't like all that  much.

Top 10:

Between The Buttons
Aftermath
Got Live If You Want It!
Out Of Our Heads (UK)
Their Satanic Majesties Request
Beggar's Banquet
Let It Bleed
Get Yer Ya Ya's Out!
Sticky Fingers
Rolling Stones No. 2

Bottom 6:

Undercover
Dirty Work
Voodoo Lounge
Bridges To Babylon
A Bigger Bang
Emotional Rescue

Best compilation:

Flowers

Some "classic" albums (Exile, Some Girls, Black & Blue) I find a bit so-so... my fave post '71 studio album is probably Tattoo You.

Great selection, not the typical with all Jimmy Miller produced albums on top top

Got Live If You Want It! it's not in my list, but the fact that was the only "live" album with Brian it's special to me. Charlie Is My Darling is good but not exactly an album, and "On Air" are not tour shows

Hope some day they release some live material from the 1967 tour

'On Air' is wonderful, but as I'd already heard everything on bootlegs for years it didn't have the impact it perhaps should've done.

Those Paris shows from 65/66/67 deserve a deluxe CD release.
