Title: Most underrated Stones songs?
Post by BrianRollingJones on Apr 6th, 2017 at 9:37pm
What are Stones songs you feel deserve more recognition by the general public/more radioplay?

My picks:

Dance Little Sister (how this tune wasn't a hit is beyond me)
Play With Fire
Jigsaw Puzzle (loved by fans, not really recognized by the general public)
Hand of Fate
We Love You
Too Much Blood

Miss Amanda Jones.  There's a whole TV show in those lyrics.  Tell Dawn French I get points as a finder's fee.

"Crashing...but never a bore.  The world of Amanda Jones."  Send CV requests and showrunner offers through this website.  (Gazza, if they bite, I'll send a donation.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j_VKkAYuCo

Down and down she goes
Our Amanda Jones
I said down and down and down and down
She'd look really lovely at home
Til somebody gonna come up and ask her
To live happily ever after, Miss Amanda Jones

On and on she goes
Little Miss Amanda Jones
I said on and on and on and on
Just watch her as she grows
Don't want to say it very obviously
But she's losing her nobility, Miss Amanda Jones

Hey girl don't you realize
The money invested in you
Hey girl you just got to find
Someone who'll really pull your family through

Up and up she goes
Our Amanda Jones
I said up and up and up and up
She looks quite delightfully stoned
She's the darling of the discotheque crowd
Of her lineage she's rightfully proud, Miss Amanda Jones

Hey girl with your nonsense nose
All pointing right down at the floor
Hey girl your suspender shows
And the girl behind you looks a bit unsure

Round and round she goes
The world of Amanda Jones
I said round and round and round and round
The balls and the dinners and shows
The little girl she just wanders about
Til it's time for her coming out, Miss Amanda Jones

Round and round and round
Round and round and round...

You Can't Catch Me
Torn & Frayed
Almost Hear You Sigh
If I Was A Dancer

But most of all, this....because they didnt even put it on an album....the cynic in me believes it was probably because (for the first time) Ronnie would have had to be given a third of the royalties - which turned out to be a lot less on a US-only b-side than it would have been on album that sold about 10 million copies....

Never forget that the Stones are more than a great rock n roll and blues band. When they turn their hands to something funky, they're hard to touch.

No. It hasnt. Its a song that seems to divide opinion very much. A lot of fans seem to really hate it. I think its the best song on that album and one of my favourite songs of theirs.

I love you, dirty fucker
Sister and a brother
Moaning in the moonlight
Singing for your supper
Cause I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it I had it I had it with you
You always seem to haunt me
Always try to haunt me
Serving out injunctions
Shouting out instructions
But I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it I had it I had it with you
And I love you with a passion
In and out of fashion
Always got behind you
When other tried to blind you
But I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it I had it I had it with you
It is such a sad thing
To watch a good love die
I've had it up to here babe
I've got to say goodbye
Cause I had it I had it I had it with you
And I had it I had it I had it with you
Loved you in the lean years
Loved you in the fat ones
You're a mean mistreater
You're a dirty dirty rat scum
I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it I had it I had it with you
I had it with you
I had it with you
I had it with you

Tell Me
Mona (tops Bo's original. not easy to do)
We Love You/Dandelion (both match the Beatles for that era)
I Got the Blues
Hide Your Love (such a heavy groove; Jagger's piano is first rate and Taylor's guitar brings out his best blues instincts)
Dance Little Sister
Memory Motel
Summer Romance (better than the similar rockers on 'Some Girls')
All the Way Down (shoulda been a classic: nastiness, pathos, jaunty rhythm)
Jump On Top of Me (shoulda been on 'Voodoo Lounge'; like All the Way Down -  pathos, a cold look at time & mortality, and instead of nastiness, a sweetness and honest longing)

Love both and, true, they are both hugely underrated. Interestingly, both appear to be Ronnie Wood songs. He does an absolute monster version of Pretty Beat Up on one of his live albums from the Slide on This tour with Bernard Fowler singing. Actually, I think this is it:

Two excellent calls there, mate.

"Sleep Tonight" is probably my fave Richards ballad (must have the Ian Stewart piano bit at the end though), and I can't imagine why "Highwire" wasn't a big hit. That mofo's got serious teeth. Should be re-released with every new war - that way it'd be permanently in the charts.

Think I'm Going Mad - just a beautiful song.  Most of us probably didn't even know it existed until we spent some time on Stones boards.

Nice one, Moonie. A really great track, should've been on 'Emotional Rescue'.

I discovered it in '83 as the b-side of "She Was Hot" (another great underrated tune) on this groovy lil piece of plastic:

Another fave of mine; it would have been the best ballad on 'IORR' or even 'Goats Head Soup' (it was recorded during those sessions, with Jimmy Page on acoustic).

Presumably they are - individually or otherwise - in studios currently / at this very mo, conjuring up further palatable groove-concoctions.
Any information on what sort of trousers Keith was wearing in Germane Studios recently?
Is it flat-out and testicles to the carpet?
