I saw a similar article yesterday...first thing I thought of was that it should be called " The Ego Has Landed Tour".

Who is going to close this monstrosity of a show?
Who Will open?
McCartney does plays about 35-40 songs per show...the Who/Stones Play 18..nothing but the hits...Young Plays 2 or 3 sets...I dont know about Waters/Pink Snooze...

I think it would be great to have them all play at the same time on different stages...

I am a little bit skeptical about this. The last time the Stones did this was Altamont and it was their festival (Glastonbury doesn't count). However, they did say they will be doing some dates at around this time.

That reads more like a wishlist of most of the major over 65 acts in the world, published as a 'rumour' to get a bit of attention and as facebook clickbait. The original list in the LA Times mentioned Pink Floyd (not Waters solo) which has NO chance of happening. The band no longer exist.

I have however read that Neil Young IS playing it.

The bunfights over top billing would make it unlikely.
As would the cost. It would take a fortune to put that bill together.

Considering the age of the fans that the event would attract, it would cost an even bigger fortune to equip the place with enough toilets to accommodate all the ageing bladders.

" Under the tentative plans, Dylan and the Stones would play back to back on Oct. 7 to open the festival. They would be followed on Oct. 8 by Young and McCartney and their touring bands.

The event would conclude on Oct. 9 with the Who and Waters, the former Pink Floyd bassist, songwriter and
singer.  "

CONFIRMED!

http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/music/663577/Roger-Daltrey-The-Who-Coachella-Paul-McCartney-Rolling-Stones

I dont know this source or its credability...read on...

Forget the young pretenders, check out the line up of rock megastars taking the stage at this year’s Coachella festival in the Californian desert.

Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Roger Walters and the Rolling Stones are all confirmed for the staggering line-up which is being regarded as a spectacular celebration of the "end of an era." And if you thought that this list couldn’t get any better, they've just added their (and every) generation's icon, Roger Daltrey.

The Who frontman has spoken of his excitement at the thought of so many old friends gathered together.

"It’s a brilliant idea,” he said. “It’s the closing of an era and the handing of a baton to a new generation.”

Not that their era is over yet, by any means. Despite the health problems that postponed a recent The Who tour, Daltrey is not planning on retiring any time soon and highlighted the fact that the band are busier than ever.

“It’s the working-class ethic” he said. “You’re going out there and you’re doing a job.

"One day I might not be able to deliver it in the way I’d like to, the voice might suffer, but for the time being I’m carrying on because my voice seems to be better than ever, mainly because I can hear myself for the first time in 50 years."

The Who have been an essential part of creating the festival culture that is so dominant today. They've done it all, from performing at Woodstock at five in the morning to being the opening act for Jimi Hendrix in Monterey where they broke their instruments and released smoke bombs.

It never ceases to amaze Daltrey how far the band have come.

“When we started, we were four guys with two amplifiers, a PA and a drummer. Everything went into the back of a truck and we just showed up," he said.

"It was easy. Now it’s six trucks, loads of roadies, everyone expects huge video screens. It’s all a bit of a palaver.”

The Who are presently working their way through a 50th anniversary world tour which will also stop by the Isle of Wight Festival in the UK on June 11. The band were forced to take a dramatic break when Daltrey contarcted viral meningitis during the US leg of the tour last September.

Despite his health blip, the 72-year-old rock singer isn’t showing any sign of stopping, however.

“I’m doing alright.” he said.

"I don’t think I’m 100% but I’m singing better than I’ve ever sung in my life, so that’s a good result."

Coachella will take place from 7-9 October this year at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, California.

MUSIC: Dates, ticket prices announced for Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones concert in Indio

The concert will feature Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan and Neil Young at the Empire Polo Club in Indio Oct. 7-9.

Published: May 3, 2016

Paul McCartney will return to the Empire Polo Club in Indio for the new Desert Trip mega concert in October.

Get ready to rock, the dream concert is real. Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan and Neil Young--the biggest living legends in rock ‘n’ roll--are headed to the Empire Polo Club in Indio Oct. 7-9 for a mega-concert called Desert Trip.

The event is being put on by Goldenvoice, which produces the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Country Music Festival, both events that sold out three successive weekends at the Empire Polo Club in April.

Friday, Oct. 7, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Saturday, Oct. 8 will feature Paul McCartney and Neil Young and Sunday, Oct. 9, will feature Roger Waters and The Who.

Tickets go on sale Monday, May 9, at 10 a.m. pacific. Passes are $199 per day for general admission or $399 for a three-day general admission pass. A 3-day standing pit pass is $1,599.

Reserved floor seats are priced at $699, $999 and $1,599 for three-day passes. Reserved grandstand seats are $999 and $1,599 for three-day passes. Those prices do not include fees.

McCartney has plenty of history with Goldenvoice. He headlined opening day of Coachella in 2009, famously breaking the 1 a.m. curfew, and has frequently visited the festival as a fan since he performed.

Likewise, Waters headlined Coachella in 2008 with a performance that included all of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon.” He also brought along a giant inflatable pig that had been spray painted with political art. The pig, which had been tethered and hovered over the crowd and near the stage, later escaped into the night sky. Goldenvoice ended up offering rewards to the residents who found the pig’s remains.

The Rolling Stones were hotly rumored to play Coachella in 2013, with the festival dates even showing up on the band’s mobile app, but it didn’t come to fruition.

Coachella started in 1999 and Stagecoach kicked off its run in 2007. Coachella’s popularity grew so much that it added a second weekend in 2012.

In 2013, the Indio City Council gave Goldenvoice the OK to put on two additional events at the Empire Polo Club in the fall. Despite the approval, nothing materialized until rumors of the biggest rock concert since Woodstock surfaced as Coachella kicked off its first weekend in mid-April.

On Monday, May 2, The Who, McCartney, Waters, The Rolling Stones and Young posted videos teasing an announcement about an October event on their social media sites.

Musically it's a dream bill for me, but even if I lived in the US the size of the gig, remoteness of the location and the way its so VIP orientated is a turn off.

$199 a day isnt bad, to be fair, but I don't expect those to be anywhere near the stage.

Pity they couldnt/wouldnt do a similar event in Europe. This will be the Stones' third US tour since they last played in their home country three years ago (and aside from two festival dates in 2007 and 2013  they havent played anywhere in the UK but London since 2006).  They can bangle it, quite frankly.

2 bills isnt so bad considering you get 2 bands for that price...a normal stones ticket is almost twice that...but the rest of the prices (not the 3-day)...well...that is just trust fund baby sorta stuff...I mean who considering the location and the time needed to get there and partake...

To be honest...the Macca / Young would be the nite of choice for this Paranoid Android...as I can only imagine the Stones set to be about 95% of the last 3 years and Dylan is as predictable and not as enjoyable live to me as he was 10 years ago...and Pink Floyd bores me to death though the HalfWho would be fun...I missed them here in NC last year

Some of you more delicate types better get your head mashed down tight.  The Southern California desert is hardcore.  No one in Southern California gives a damn about anything except getting loaded.  All the weed is Bhudda, all the blow is fishscale, and all the acid is titrated.  People swill booze.  You need to know what you are doing out there.

Where yinz staying?  I vote for Cucamonga, man.  Cuca-fucking-monga.  They won't let people like us near Palm Springs.  America is still a segregated society, where full-on geeks control the flow of commerce.  We don't have our man Trump in the White House just yet.

This is it.  Probably your last chance to see the Stones, the WHO, Dylan and Neil Young together.  Time is inexorable in its passage.

Considerations:

Individual shows are $199 for General admission, that's standing behind all the seats, only looking at and being able to see TV screens.

Seats for the 3 day event start at $699 for the rear of the seated section.

Hotel for a place that isn't a total dump would probably run at least $600 for a 3 night stay....and that would probably be at least 20 miles away. Living about 100 miles from the site I wouldn't want to drive home after the last night.

For me personally, I've seen the Stones, Young and Who all within the last year and Macca in 2014.

....so, I think I'm good (by not going)....If the Stones play an arena show In California, Vegas or Phoenix, I would probably go to at least one of those.

That's what I'm talking' 'bout !

Why? Makes no difference whether they close on Saturday or Friday..or Sunday.

I suppose the running order depends on how it fits in with each act's touring schedule.

As its a festival event, they'd be using the festival's own stage - not their own. (their own American tour in and around this show may well otherwise be an arena tour, we dont know yet)

With performances starting after sunset, each artist will play a full set, serving up three incomparable nights of rock ‘n’ roll.
Located at the home of the critically acclaimed Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this is the only time and place to see this incredible lineup.

LOL

Its just the six acts, but I've read one newspaper story in the last few days which suggests that each day might have another (lower profile) act added as an opener.  How accurate that is, I dont know but it seems its being floated anyway.

A weekend festival event with only two acts on the bill each night would be a L O N G day, as you cant imagine there'd be much in the way of music prior to  6.30 pm.

Check out Cucamonga.  A man can find anything in Cucamonga.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find a non-gouger, as there must be over 1,000 hotels in the Palm Springs area.

‘Desert Trip’ festival may have the Stones, the Who and Bob Dylan on the bill, but it’s still a rip-off
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Monday, May 9, 2016

JEFFREY R. STAAB/CBS
Bob Dylan will be at the Desert Trip ripoff fest. As he said in his last relevant song, “Lot of water under the bridge. Lot of other stuff, too.” Desert Trip is the toxic stuff at the bottom of that muddy river.

Three days of cheese, money, grub and music.

To paraphrase that old Woodstock slogan, that’s my take on “Desert Trip,” the three-day Coachella-esque festival featuring The Who, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and others who have not made a relevant contribution to world culture in 20 years (or 30 for the Stones and 40 for The Who).

Tickets go on sale at 1 p.m. Eastern time. They aren’t merely expensive. They are outrageous.

Like Woodstock, Desert Trip comprises three days. Unlike Woodstock, whose tickets were $18 (the vast majority of which were never even collected), Desert Trip tickets start at $399 (roughly three times the Woodstock price, in current dollars).

ELISE AMENDOLA/AP
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones will appear at “Desert Trip” — which you can attend for a small sum of $399.

But that’s just to get in. If you want a reserved seat, you’ll spend $1,599. It’s another $99 if you want to camp on site (BYOT, of course). And it’s $499 if you want food.

My friends at Quartz did a great breakdown of all the fees and hidden costs of Desert Trip, but the online wags left out the biggest expense of this unmagical history bore: It is going to suck.

THEO WARGO/GETTY IMAGES
Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend of The Who will be making their way to overcharge you at the festival in California in October as well.

Full disclosure: I own every Rolling Stone, Who, Bob Dylan and Neil Young record, even the lousy ones. Those four acts, plus Paul McCartney, who will perform on the second night of the festival, define the music I grew up with. Those bands all helped me make sense of being a hormonally raging teenager watching the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes, a confused college student using ideas as my maps, a young professional throwing the bums a dime in my prime, a guy in his 30s admitting that however much I booze, there ain't no way out, and even a guy in his 40s feeling like a Cutlass Supreme in the wrong lane trying to turn against the flow. Someday, many years from now, I might even get to 64 - and, yes, I’ll want someone to send me a Valentine, birthday greeting, bottle of wine.

So clearly, I’m the target audience for Desert Trip, Oct. 7-9. I’m the guy who should be plunking down $1,500 on a last chance power drive to see my heroes in action for what will likely be the final time.

Sorry, but I’m not a Baby Boomer. I'm not a cultural hermit seeking to hermetically insulate myself in a bubble of nostalgia and ignorance. As Pete Townshend himself said, “Drinks flow. People forget.”

GARY WIEPERT/AP
Paul McCartney is also on the “Desert Trip” bill.

I still listen to Bob Dylan, the Who, the Stones and especially Neil Young every day. Their music takes me back to who I was years ago. But I’m not that guy anymore, so why would I pay $1,500 in an effort — likely a vain one, given the waning skills of the musicians on the bill — to live in the past?

I didn’t go to Woodstock — my mom said I was too young and, given that I was 4, she was probably right — but those three days of mud in Bethel, N.Y. became “Woodstock.” It wasn’t just the great lineup; Woodstock was great because its great artists were in their prime sharing their current insights. Desert Trip is a nostalgia trip with a high price tag and diminishing returns.

As Bob Dylan said in his last relevant song, “Lot of water under the bridge. Lot of other stuff, too.” This "Oldchella" is the toxic stuff at the bottom of that muddy river.

Yes, I’m still a miner for a heart of gold. I still burn like a red coal carpet. I still have my kit bag, my heavy boots and I’m running in the rain 'til my feet are raw.

But I also know that "he not busy being born is busy dying." Or getting ripped off.

Different date...same venue... There seems to be some rumblings about the town of Palm Springs and Coachella that due to overwhelming demand... a SECOND WEEKEND is being added...supposedly with the same line-up or with a few changes due to scheduling

Missed this earlier I guess:

Word in the desert is that Immodium has been selling out like crazy in preperation for this festival...

They call it the poor man’s methadone.

The epidemic of opioid addiction sweeping the country has led to another form of drug abuse that few experts saw coming: Addicts who cannot lay hands on painkillers are instead turning to Imodium and other anti-diarrhea medications.

The active ingredient, loperamide, offers a cheap high if it is consumed in extraordinary amounts. ....(continues)

We may or may not have invented sex, drugs and rock and roll… but we definitely killed it…

there's a few smaller events in the USA, but even Punk Rock
Bowling is getting ruined… all good things must pass… but, rock and roll and the decadent party with it, is over for the most part.

The best wat to tell if something is bullshit. If the ticket prices are reasonable, but parking, travel and lodging are high… it's lame. It's not a concert, it's just an industry and your a consumer.

Love the Stones, Love Dylan, Love Paul . . . So Here’s Why I Won’t Be Attending Desert Trip This Fall
05/16/2016

David Hinckley
Writer, Bob Dylan fan, memorized every line in ‘Casablanca’

With all due modesty, I am exactly the person for whom this fall’s Desert Trip rock festival was put together.

And I won’t be there.

Not that anyone will miss me when the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, the Who and Roger Waters stroll god-like onto the Empire Polo Club stage in Indio, Calif., the weekends of Oct. 7-9 and 14-16.

Some 150,000 tickets for the two weekends sold out in about five hours, though much of the real ticket-buying action is just now getting under way.

This show is every scalper’s fantasy, oops, I mean the secondary market is well-positioned. It’s a cool ticket where the target customer has money to spend and is 99.5% pre-sold.

One click and that $199 three-day pass can become a $2,000 gift for yourself.

Anyhow, getting back to the subject of me, I couldn’t be a more perfect fit for this show if I had been created as a hologram by the concert promoters.

I’m 67. I grew up with all those acts. I agree with Johnny Cash that Dylan is the greatest writer of our time. I listen to him every day. I love the Stones, McCartney and the Who. I’ve seen all these acts but Waters in concert multiple times, going back to the fall of 1965, when my friend Mark and I saw Dylan at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford, Conn., and the Stones in New Haven. For the record, the Stones’s top-40 hit at the time was “Get Off Of My Cloud.” Dylan’s was “Positively 4th Street.”

In the years since, I never fulfilled my parents’ assumption that I would outgrow rock ‘n’ roll. I found other music I liked, but that only expanded the playlist. It never elbowed rock ‘n’ roll aside.

The artists who will be playing Desert Trip are all over my iPod.

There’s also nothing like a live show and I don’t mind traveling to see one. My friend Barry and I flew to Dublin in 2006 for Bruce Springsteen’s “Sessions” shows and I’d do that again tomorrow.

Nor do I avoid mega-shows. I went to Woodstock, Woodstock II, the first Farm Aid, Live Aid and a spectacular day-long rhythm and blues concert in Burlington, N.J., in 1983.

So why don’t I feel any urge to see Desert Trip, a once-in-a-lifetime summit bringing together some of the most towering survivors of rock ‘n’ roll?

Well, for starters - let’s get the most awkward part out of the way first - some of these artists aren’t quite the live acts they used to be.

That’s not their fault. They’re mostly in their 70s, which, trust me, is different from your 20s.

It’s great they’re still around and performing. But the once-in-a-lifetime part of this show also has a disquieting subtext of last-in-a-lifetime. Let’s hear “Hey Jude,” “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Can’t Explain” and “Jumping Jack Flash” one final epic time before all these guys are, you know, gone.

It’s a nostalgia package - something the Stones embraced years ago with astounding success while Young and Dylan, in particular, have at times tried to resist.

Now there’s nothing wrong with hearing a great song again. Music helps define our past, and Desert Trip feels a little like a giant piñata. Take a swing and see what part of your life pops out.

Maybe it’s the sheer scope of the package that makes me hesitant. At a certain point, putting more sugar in the lemonade doesn’t keep making it better.

Or maybe it’s the fact, hardly unique to Desert Trip, that rock ‘n’ roll concerts in recent years have felt less like a place to sit down and hear some tunes than finely calculated corporate products.

Expensive corporate products, accessorized with expensive merchandise. The tab for a T-shirt would feed a family of five for a month in much of the world.

While no one begrudges artists a decent living, music has always been the most democratic and accessible part of popular culture. It’s depressing that concerts seem increasingly like pro sports events: a playground and perk for people with lots of money.

And then finally, there’s this: For an old guy like me, attending Desert Trip would be a lot of work.

When you’re young and everything functions well, you don’t mind spending hours to get there, stand in lines, hang around. It’s part of the deal.

When you’re older, that part gets less fun.

Probably 20 years ago, I was interviewing Mick Jagger and asked him if, as a fan, he still liked concerts.

Sure, he said, but as he had gotten older his idea of the perfect concert had evolved. He’d like it to start around 8 p.m., he said, and be over by 8:45.

Certainly there are exceptions. Ask the band in which Mick Jagger sings. But I knew what he meant.

I have a granddaughter, Sarah, who went to the Empire Polo Club last year for Coachella. She was there for a couple of days. She loved it.

I’m not ready to pass the whole concert torch to her yet. But some things are more worth it when you’re 23.

Brilliant as so much of the music from these artists has been, Desert Trip sounds a little too much like a hard day’s night.

Chapman shot Lennon. John Hinckley shot Reagan.

I hope they both rot in prison. Have a nice day! :-)

Well, here's another take on the subject:

Desert Trip is The Summer’s Priciest Festival, But Tickets Are More of a Bargain Than You Think
05/17/2016

Jesse Lawrence
CEO, TiqIQ

Desert Trip is on its way to becoming the most expensive music festival of the summer — by a long shot. Last week, Coachella festival organizers announced a mega-festival featuring performances from the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, The Who, Neil Young and Roger Waters to be held over two weekends on October 9-11 and October 16-18 in Indio, California.

“Oldchella” fans (and brokers) went rabid for tickets, forcing primary tickets to sell out in just three hours, with hundreds of passes hitting the secondary market shortly after. Estimates predict that Desert Trip will gross over $150 million over the two weekends, with the headlining acts taking home an estimate of $6 to $9 million for their appearance on stage.

Desert Trip’s expected gross is so high because tickets are pricier than any festival this summer. At the time tickets went on sale, general admission prices for Desert Trip were set at $199 for a single day pass, while a three-day pass began $399. A three-day pass with admission to the standing pit in front of the stage (floor seats) was priced at $1,599. To compare, the next-priciest festival, Coachella, broke the record for highest gross of any festival in 2015 when it raked in a whopping $84 million from a total of 198,000 tickets sold, and resale 3-day passes averaged just $871. If the gross estimates for Desert Trip prove to be accurate, the festival is already on track to rake in more than $60 million than the next-priciest festival. It’s unlikely — if not impossible — that any festival this summer will come close to that number.

Despite the huge expense for classic rock fans, the festival still offers fans more of a bargain than the average music fan might suspect. In terms of floor seat ticket prices, each act on the bill is known to post pricey floor tickets on their respective solo headlining shows.

Neil Young & Promise of Real’s 2015 string of shows on the Rebel Content Tour saw resale floor seat prices that averaged $220 for all dates. Bob Dylan’s current summer tour with Mavis Staples is seeing floor seat ticket prices just above that average, as his summer dates are clocking in at $290. Sir Paul McCartney’s tour dates aren’t exactly cheap for fans either, as his 2016 tour dates are posting floor seat ticket averages of $590. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd last took to the road for a major tour in 2012, and his floor seats averaged $379 per ticket across all of his performances.

The Rolling Stones are, by far, the most expensive solo show of any of the headliners. The band’s epic 2015 Zip Code Tour had floor seats averaging $1,177 for all of their performances, and although they brought along awesome opening acts (Ed Sheeran, Walk The Moon, etc.), not a single performance featured support as epic or rare as the collective lineup for Desert Trip.

In total, a floor seat to every headlining act’s solo show would be well over the average price of resale floor seat ticket. Currently, a resale three-day pass for floor seats to Desert Trip are averaging $2,661 for Weekend One, while Weekend Two passes are averaging just $2,068, according to data provided by TiqIQ. Although the prices may seem outrageous, they’re considerably cheaper than the cost of seeing each artist independently.

Other lodging options, like airbnb as listed on travel site Hipmunk.com, offers travelers affordable ways to keep the overall festival cost down. Desert Trip boasts a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and so ticket costs adequately and fairly reflect its epicness.

My hunch is that in a few months after the scalpers and other rip off insiders have made their $$$ a Pay Per View is announced. Perhaps like The Dead shows in Chicago last year. Imagine the extra $ from that worldwide? All three nights for maybe $129 or one specific night for $75 (something like that. Plus two weekends to do that? Timing for the East Coast and Europe might make it difficult so maybe e delayed edited show....anyway.....they are going to milk this golden cow!

Yeah, the Dead shows are a good example. I bought a couple and I think you had 30 days to watch them before the link expired. $75 might be steep. But it's not a bad idea.

Could they not do a show with Taylor Swift instead? Even with visual / aesthetic distortions created by Moontrouser's possible 'Cid, to be amongst that many ol' folk sounds extremely depressing / chilling.
