It really is a heart felt album. My favorite right now is JUST A GIFT. I also think SOMETHING FOR NOTHING is so damn catchy that it could be an actual hit.

Just listened through for the first time. Spun Trouble just once then avoided all the other previews. Let me just say, Keith, bless his heart. He's a treasure and a wonder. Having new music from him under any circumstances is absolutely preferable to nothing. I have to say though that it struck me that practically everything on here seemed to be a rewrite of something previous. Plus a random array of old Winos and Stones melodies and licks from the days of yore. Even down to a lost Toronto demo. That said, I really enjoyed it, and the mere fact of Keith Richards making music is a spectacular thing. And it's great to see him looking so healthy these days. First album cover ever without a cigarette! Who knows, this one has the potential to really grow on me. . . .

You're right about melodies and beats repeated from past songs.  But why I say it's a shame we can't have a Stones record like this is that Crosseyed Heart does it with soul and the kind of playfulness that leads to reinvention.  The Stones do it all with effort.  When the Stones repeat formulas, or even when they labor to pull out something new, like on ABB, it sounds strained and forced.  There are many songs on Crosseyed Heart that would be great for the Stones if the Stones did them without tarting them up or pushing them too hard.

In contrast, listen to Stones albums from, say, IORR forward, and hear how much they depend on effort and exertion compared to the albums of the decade before.  Effort bought them a lot on IORR, Black and Blue and Some Girls; and it saved Emotional Rescue and totally elevated the scraps that became the great Tattoo You.  But as the quality of the material declined with time and age, you hear not great songs but the effort to make an album that will sell.

If you listen to Keith's song demos, such as on the Voodoo Stew-Brew-Residue collections, you sense that Keith writes them, then lets Jagger be not just the final lyricist but the band's musical director, just shy of a co-producer of the albums.  Really, Keith should be the musical director, as his unreleased work for the Dirty Work sessions shows.  What's missing from the released Dirty Work would have created a totally different and more memorable record.

Crosseyed Heart could have done without "Goodnight Irene," which I've been tired of since the days of Pete Seeger.  But Keith puts his own vocal spin on the lyrics.  You can always cut that track when you program or burn, or put it at the end of the record where it belongs.  (Open with blues, close with blues.)

Written, played and sung with emotion and confidence from beginning to end.Recorded beautifully.and honestly. Real music from a man who has led an unreal life. I think its a brilliant record. Its not the Wino's and its not the Stones.  It's Keith.  The best Keith ever. Thanks Keith. Well done.

I have to agree with Tele, this is Keith - all Keith.  A couple of tracks remind me of the Winos, but the feel of this record is not Talk is Cheap or Main Offender.  This one feels closer to home.

I LOVE it!  Robbed Blind is ranking high on my favorites right now.  Keith's take of Goodnight Irene is fabulous.  Stark, dark and folksy.  I wish he would have used someone other than Nora Jones on that duet.  A woman with a bluesier/torch singer voice would have been better, but that's just my opinion.  A few more listens and my favorite tracks could change.

This is the kind of album I wish the Stones would make.  You can tell by listening to it that this is what Keith wanted to record and he took his time.  There's no commercial 'theme.'  Just a man making a record.  Buy it! :)

Some sales numbers so far:

UK Midweek chart (Friday-Monday)

1 David Gilmour - Rattle That Lock (35.0k)
2 Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon (21.7k)
3 Cliff Richard - 75 at 75 – 75 Career Spanning Hits (10.5k)
4 Jess Glynne - I Cry When I Laugh (9.8k)
5 Keith Richards - Crosseyed Heart (7.9k)

Keith's album was very front-loaded with only 500 copies sold yesterday, and with less than 1,000 copies between #5 and #7, we can expect a #7 or #8 debut by Friday with about 9.0-9.5k sold total.

Still a UK Top 10 debut it's an impressive result for him, Talk Is Cheap peaked at #37 (3 weeks on Top 100) and Main Offender at #45 (2 weeks on Top 100).
From all the Stones' solo albums, only She's The Boss went Top 10 peaking at #6.

Argentina:

It's listed as "Love Forever" which is on the regular album.
Alternate take?
Can somebody please post.
Wish they would have announced this beforehand.

If the Stones would go into the studio and make a throwaway, they might be better off.  What is Exile but a long throwaway, essentially recorded on the fly and then overdubbed quick and dirty and uncertainly?  Read Glyn Johns' account in Mojo or in his book.

I totally screwed  up previous posting. Duh.

Best Buy here in US advertises the new KR as having a 16th bonus cut. On their track listing, it appears simply as  "Love Overdue [Bonus Track]."

Now "Love Overdue" is already listed as one of the 15 original tracks.

Apparently, the bonus track has Lee "Scratch" Perry on it.

Hope I'm not giving out info that everybody already knows.
Wouldn't be the first time.

It the second Top 10 album by a solo Stone there, She's The Boss reached #6 in 1985.

UK Sales:
1 David Gilmour 48,075
2 Lana Del Rey 28,391
3 Jess Glynne 16,262
4 Cliff Richard 16,131
5 The Stereophonics 12,362

7 Keith Richards 11,302
8 Ed Sheeran 10,365
9 Bring Me The Horizon 9,073
10 James Bay 8,128

From Music Week:

"A charter member of The Rolling Stones, who delivered their 22nd and most recent studio album A Bigger Bang a little over 10 years ago, Keith Richard has always been a little more reticent in releasing solo albums, and prior efforts Talk is Cheap (1988) and Main Offender (1992) haven't really set the chart alight, with respective peaks of number 37 and number 45. However, with Radio Two airing first single Trouble upwards of 50 times already (it peaked at #64 on the Airplay Top 100 chart), the 71 year old's third album Crosseyed Heart debuts at number seven (11,302 sales). Including Rolling Stones releases, it is his 51st chart album. Its debut comes 15 weeks after the releases of deluxe and super deluxe editions saw The Rolling Stones' classic 1971 album Sticky Fingers return to the Top 10 at #7 too."

Yeah sure, but I dont do online purchases due to identity theft 4 different times so I go shopping. After 5 different stores I found a Best Buy who had 2 copies left, I think they only stocked 12 per store. Anyway I was not always a big fan of KEEF's solo efforts in the past, but I like this one. The true test for me is listening to it at different times of day and different states of mind. I like it in the morning, when I'm calm. Not so much after work, when it seems too slow or dare I say boring. It's too low key when I'm drunk, but when I'm stoned I appreciate it the most, its very thoughtfully put together and KEEF has an ironic side which I love. This is my favorite KEEF solo album.

On the weekends and holidays, of course! And if I go out to concerts/parties/social events on weeknights.

What I meant was, the test of a good album is listening to it during different states of mind and liking it all or most of the time.

Keith Richards has revealed the video for his latest solo single.

'Long Overdue' will be released on December 11 and featured on ‘Crosseyed Heart’, Richards' album released earlier this year. The album is the Rolling Stones guitarist's first solo effort in over 20 years.

'Crosseyed Heart' follows Richards' previous individual efforts 'Main Offender' (1992) and 'Talk Is Cheap' (1988).

I will play it today on the drive to Gran ma's house.

I just picked it up yesterday. I'm on the first of what will be several listens in a row.

I revisited it today while doing laundry with beers. Man, I'm here to tell ya- that is a damn good album.

Except the ones that take over Germany.

Despite what P. Ratzinger and the PC media want you to believe, he was invited.

Listening tonight to Crosseyed Heart with the benefit of Grey Goose, it strikes me that I will burn my CD-R with the last three tracks in this order:

13) Lover's Plea
14) Substantial Damage
15) Goodnight Irene

Check it and see.

Also, the Lee "Scratch" Perry overdub version of Love Overdue has been heretofore underrated in excitement value.  Starting with Keith.
