The Patriots did not lie and did participate. They took the fine and the 1st rd pick penalty. Brady testified under oath he didn't have anything to do with it. The ball boys testified he had nothing to do with it.Wells told Brady their was no penalty if he didn't turn over his phone. The NFL has lied and manipulated the entire thing every step of the way. 1. If the accused's denials under oath were sufficient, no one would ever be convicted of anything.  If Brady was "under oath" (and its likely HE will later argue that he wasn't), it backfired, because that's when we first heard of the destroyed phone. 

2. I'm not convinced by denials of the accused here, in light of the evidence that was cited in the Wells Report.  The opposite - none of them, including "the Deflator", are credible at all. 

3. Wells did not tell Brady there was no penalty if he didn't turn over his phone.  Wells would have no authority to say that one way or the other.  Wells did not tell Brady he was free to destroy his phone.  If Brady and his many lawyers assumed even for a second that there would be no repercussions for destroying evidence and failing to cooperate in a formal investigation, then they are retarded (and maybe insane).

4. I am not aware of a single NFL lie.

5.  Berman is an idiot, who doesn't understand football, and is stretching way to far for a settlement because he doesn't understand what is in front of him.

But it’s the Deflategate matter that has really called into question whether ESPN has been carrying water for the NFL and Goodell. By now you’ve probably been made aware that the whole story of how Tom Brady had allegedly been involved in a scheme to deflate footballs. That originated with a story by ESPN insider Chris Mortensen that said 11 of 12 New England Patriots footballs were deflated below league standards as part of the AFC Championship game. But the problem is, when you look at emails between the Patriots and the NFL, you’ll find that the story was clearly a plant of misinformation and that the only source that would have had a reason to pass on the misinformation to Mortensen was the NFL. The whole case against Brady in the court of public opinion begins with that ESPN story. And while Mortensen said on the Dan Le Batard Show that he could have done a “better job vetting” the story, he backtracked saying of the story, the footballs were “significantly under inflated.

Whole lot of whacky conjecture in there - NFL used third party network to try to set up a conspiracy to commit malfeasance between Brady and his ball boys?  To what earthly or heavenly end - i.e., why in the name of fucking Christ would the NFL go through such a sketchy ass, low probability scheme to hang the top draw (Brady) in the NFL over the last 15 years?

Anyway, who cares what ESPN says.  We have the actual tests of deflated balls, the Wells Report, the Lord, and more than enough evidence Brady couldn't destroy to biff him hard.  He deserves it.

I saw a brief story this morning that quoted Peyton as saying that he hasn't had any feeling in his fingertips since his neck surgery. Seriously?  Retire man.

My first career was in nursing.  There is no way with that kind of nerve damage he should be playing right now.  One bad hit and who knows what will happen.  It's a bit like watching Favre those last couple years he played.  He was still tremendous fun to watch, but you cringed every time he was hit wondering what had happened to him now.

Pro Football Focus is cranking out top 10 lists for each position unit in the NFL, and the news is encouraging for the New Orleans Saints.

Not only does the website rank Drew Brees as the second-best quarterback in the league, it also puts the Saints' running back corps at No. 8 overall.

On Brees, the website said that "rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated...He faces some challenges this season, with Jimmy Graham now on the Seattle Seahawks, but if his pass to Brandin Cooks on Saturday night was anything to go by, he's in for another fine season in 2015."

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is ranked No. 1 overall.

For running backs, the Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers are ranked in the top three.

The Saints' eclectic backfield featuring Mark Ingram, C.J. Spiller and Khiry Robinson is No. 8, ahead of the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals.

32 years ago today and the birth of the Who Dat phenomenon

Ever wondered how the Who Dat chant started?

The popular rally cry's relationship with the New Orleans Saints actually dates to a WVUE-TV feature story on St. Augustine High School's football team, which aired 32 years ago today on Sept. 1, 1983, according to local sports historian William Taylor.

As part of its high school football preview series, WVUE featured the St. Augustine Purple Knights. In the story, then-St. Aug coach Tony Biagas revealed that the players used a chant on the daily bus ride to practice to set the mood.

"Who dat, who dat, who dat talkin' about beatin' St. Aug?! Who dat?! Who dat?!"

Reporter Ken Berthelot and photographer Avis Landry documented the ritual for the feature story and showed the finished product to sports director Ron Swoboda back at the studio. Swoboda loved it.

After the feature aired that day, WVUE received several phone calls from viewers asking that it be re-aired. The station obliged at 10 p.m.

Three days later, the chants could be heard echoing through the crowd at the Superdome during the Saints' 28-17 victory against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1983 regular-season opener.

A legend was born.

"That's where it started," Swoboda said.

A few weeks later, the famous "Who Dat" song was recorded by Aaron Neville and a group of players known as "The Singing Saints": Brad Edelman; John Hill; Reggie Lewis; Louis Oubre; and Dave Waymer. The song, which actually was a version of "When the Saints Go Marching In," was produced by Carlo Nuccio and brothers Sal and Steve Monistere and copyrighted on Oct. 17, 1983.

WVUE had exclusive access to film the recording session and produced a music video featuring the session and Saints season highlights. The station aired the video throughout its Saints coverage that season.

"It turned into a phenomenon," Swoboda said. "It was the first time the Saints were out of the chute with such a good start (4-2) and everyone was excited about (Coach) Bum (Phillips). It was viral before we knew what viral was."

In southern Louisiana, "who dat" was in wide use before 1980, and was used in chants by African-American schools by the early 1970s and in majority-white schools by 1979, according to Nicholls State University English professor Shana Walton, who led a research team hired by the NFL and later contracted by New Orleans businesses to trace the saying's origins. Patterson (La.) High School and some Southwestern Athletic Conference college teams have also laid claim to the chant over the years.

The phrase has become the unofficial chant of Saints fans far and wide. A few years ago, the Saints even started a pre-game tradition by having a designated player lead the cheer at mid-field before kickoff each of home game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The saying became so popular the NFL and a group that claimed to have trademarked the catchphrase, waged a legal battle over its rights in 2012.

So while "Who Dat" clearly has been around these parts for decades, it's association as the unofficial chant of the Saints dates to Sept. 1, 1983.

"Just like the (Catholic) Church co-opted Mardi Gras, the Saints and NFL co-opted the Who Dat chant," Swoboda said.

AND, If the fine is going to be $25k, you can expect a LOT of fucked up footballs this year.  That is chump change to every QB in the league.  But, as you are WELL AWARE, this was far more than just equipment tampering - this was a conspiracy to cheat, and then cover it up by the NFL's most famous player - no way could the NFL look the other way.  And they won't.  This is not over.

Hello. My name is Tim Bliss and I live in downtown Cullman. I’m 28 years old and an avid NFL fan of the Atlanta Falcons team. I have noticed over the last several years more and more times than not, WBRC choosing to air games featuring the New Orleans Saints over the Atlanta Falcons.



Yes I realize that we have quite a few folks living here now that are originally from New Orleans that were displaced because of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I realize that you may want to appeal to those fans. But there are many more Falcon fans here that have lived here a very long time and had grown accustomed to Fox 6 WBRC airing the Falcon games here.



As you can see by this image, Birmingham is an Atlanta Falcons designated TV market. That makes sense considering that Birmingham really is not all that far from Atlanta and that quite a few folks commute from Birmingham to Atlanta and vise versa every single day. New Orleans is twice as far away from Birmingham as Atlanta is. So why do those games get priority over the Falcon games?



To make matters even worse, this weekend the Falcons are playing against the Cowboys. The Cowboys get a huge airing across the nation because of their history and yet this weekend their game is not being aired because they are playing the Falcons. Instead the Saints game against the Panthers is being aired.



I am a very loyal viewer of Fox 6 WBRC and have been for several years. But, I am growing extremely disappointed with the direction this station has decided to take and I am very close to taking my viewership towards the other news stations in the Birmingham TV market.

If the Seattle guy simply grabs the ball and takes a knee, doesn't Seattle get a touchback, anyway?  It seems like he overthunked it, when the easier thing was to just grab the ball.  So Seattle wants to take advantage of a play that a smarter player would not have made.  Anyway, yes, strange play, and the NFL needs to do a better job.  Every time you see a few refs cluster around talking, you know something bogus is going to happen.  And we still have this Brady issue with the balls..........

Let me introduce to you the pride of South Allegheny High School (along with TomL and myself) Steelers tight end and future NFL superstar Jesse James.  The Glassport Gronk had his first NFL catch followed by his first NFL touchdown today.  He was laying out defenders with strong blocks also today in his first NFL game.
