Punk and disco certainly DID happen...and I am glad they did!!
The one thing TY did prove is that MTV happened...and not very well if you were to judge by the crappy videos they did for the TY singles (Neighbors aside, which I think was MEH, IMO)... The sublime Waiting On a Friend took the video format to an ether level by keeping it within the limits of reality (however distorted) and keeping it simple and believable...just who WAS that blond punk rocker in the window sill?? http://soundcheck.wnyc.org/story/239569-mick-keith-and-friend/ |

We did this, didn't we? Gazza replied "Thank fuck punk happened, otherwise we'd still be hearing Yes, ELP . . ." and he named a bunch of other lousy bands killed by punk. Killed by punk music (Pistols).
Disco happened. It was the last hurrah of Italian-Americanismness. Feathered hair and sock stuffed crotches. But there was a lot of good black disco, and the Bee Gees have aged well too. There wasn't much LSD in the 70s. I think people were fried out after the 60s. Thank the Lord Christ that LSD is again making a come back in America. |

When TY came out in the early 80's, Punk was still around, as for Disco I think Jagger was a little into it, he used to go to Studio 54, & "Miss You" was played a lot in Disco clubs.

Is this the next one to go in the remaster series?
It would be great to get a vinyl reissue but it will probably be cut from the 2009 CD remaster. To be honest, I have not picked up one of those as I've been good with the '94 Virgins. |

The Sex Pistols were a manufactured band who couldn't play their instruments, sing in tune or play live; they relied entirely on shock value, reputation & hype to fuel their questionable success in the form of several lucrative record contracts before they disappeared from the scene. The parallels to today's boy bands, The Voice & X Factor contestants is uncanny – the lack of musical ability in abundance and careers based on hype - it is almost a replica. |

Bands with a little intelligence and depth like The Stooges, X, Television, The Clash, The Misfits, Black Flag, The Ramones, The Jam... Also like a lot of 60's Garage punk like The Standells and The Seeds. |

My understanding was Vicious was the only one who couldn't play an instrument. Someone was playing guitar, drums, and bass on Bollocks, and Lydon was certainly singing. In tune was not the goal, and while shock value was definitely part of it, Bollocks did get made and stands high today. Townshend dedicated Rough Glass to them, FPS. I'm not seeing the parallels between the Pistols to boy bands, or even to manufactured bands like Kiss or the Monkees. Black Flag and X made some incredibly boring music. If any punk bands were overrated, it had to be those two bands. |

Boring and overrated are not subjective. See Eagles music. Still having a hard time understanding you and the Partridge Family comparison. Lyndon, Jones, Cook, also Matlock - all playing. It is punk rock - they weren't trying to be Yes. That was whole point. Pistols were pioneers, and my understanding was that only Sidney Vicious was unable to play an instrument. I've never read anything to the contrary and you have not provided such. LSD. Bagels. Mazel topf. Skeechie? Lazarus. |

They were a cynical con: "Something with which to sell trousers", as creator & manager Malcom McLaren said in 1989; a "carefully planned exercise to embezzle as much money as possible out of the music industry", as Jon Savage characterised McLaren's core theme in The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle; "cash from chaos" as the movie puts it. Sound familiar? Partridge Family, KISS, Backstreet Boys, Menudo, NKOTB, One Direction... |

You are employing the logic of the fatuous adherents of the book from which you borrowed your monicker. The Sex Pistols are nothing like the goddam Partridges/New Kids On The Biff, and a handful of cheap quotes, most of which have probably been said about the Stones and their contemps too, doesn't bridge the gap. I have very little respect for any opinion that is not my own, and it makes me a more open minded person to what is absolutely correct. I can't miss here. I never miss. Their best song, set forth below, ends this exercise. Wooo hoo hoo hoooo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UZ0bPaOdbQ |
