Hey, they have a band and they have a Stones setlist.

When and where is your band playing, and what is its setlist?

Cover bands are great; we have always supported our regulars who play the Stones

There are fans who collect everything, those who collect only their music, fans who would make love to Mick Jagger even if he wasn't famous and fans who play their music, and so on, etc etc

Fantastic! I appreciate your opinion - cover bands are not everyone's cup of tea. They've been around a long, long time. Many, like mine, just want to play songs they love because it's . . . fun. A lot of fun. Stay away from Bethesda this Friday . . . PIB, 2000 Light Years & Stray Cat Blues are a strung together absolute pile of shambles - you'd truly hate it.

And those early 60's cover bands? One in particular from London that billed themselves as an R&B band, covering obscure Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, & Jimmy Reed in late 1963/early 1964? Sounded like they came from the garage? Awful - you'd hate them as well.

Right Nanky. that is quite an impressive undertaking. Most Stones tribute bands are even less risky than the Stones with the songs they play. Good on these guys for giving a go at different songs throughout the Stones career.

If you were to toss in there Fingerprint File (a DC FAVE!!)
This would be golden!!

I'm too fucking old to be trying to be Mick fucking Jagger sunshine. Anyway, we did ORIGINAL material. Not stealing other people's music. And it's still a bloody, bollocks shambles set list.

Oh, we are a Stones cover band, not tribute band, so we don't wear costumes, although I subconciously do some Keith moves since I've been obsessed with him for 35+ years. We also bill ourselves as a Stones cover band, so I'm pretty sure people know titles like Satisfaction, Under My Thumb, and Jumpin Jack Flash are Stones songs and not our own since we bill ourselves as a . . .Stones cover band. Don't think we are stealing, simply paying homage. I actually like the setlist and don't believe it's bollocks or shambles -- I wish I could say the same for our performance, which had many moments of shambles, think Garden State '78 or Blind Date - at times it was that sloppy -- no polish here, we came from the garage.

You seem to have strong feelings on supposed stealing and hatred of cover bands. Lots of resentment. And you're an Aussie, right? My God, it's all making sense: you were in Men at Work, right? WOW. Not everyone from a land Down Under (sorry, that must hurt) could end up in the mighty Saints. Let go of the bitterness. You had a good run.

Let's get something straight for a kick off. I am not an Aussie, I am a Londoner who currently on and off resides in Australia. OK! Every band I have played in, and play with admittadely does Stones songs. But not an entire Stones set list.

In Australia during the late 80s, early 90s these unimaginative groups, artists flooded the club scene making it impossible for young, raw talent with real potential to get a look in. The Zep Boys, The Rolling Clones, Back In Black, Revolver,Masters Of Reality, etc, etc. Bollocks!

It is a waste of talent, time and energy. As Keith himself said back in 73; refering to The New York Dolls, "Why do they have to be such an obvious copy of us?" David Johannson, Johnny Thunders, and they weren't even a tribute band.

Nothing is more satisfying than being your own thing, writing, and recording your own music, and have people appreciate it. Sure I was heavily influenced by the Stones, that's only natural, but to out and out copy them, song for song is just sad. Now, as I said, as far as I am concerned that set list is still a bloody shambles. No cohesion, As Tears Go By as a closer, Come on! Finally; no LIVING on and off in (a land down under) doesn't hurt. As I have said, I'm a Brit', born not a Stones throw away from Dartford, and I fucking despise Men At Work.

Well the band you are refering to from early 64, didn't just do Berry, did they. As Jagger once said, "We ran the gamut." ....Huge difference don't you think?

"Sucked because of an opinion?"

Try to pay attention.

If you are a musician, you should appreciate the fact that these guys (a) put a band together and (b) play great music.  Whether they are any good, or a tribute, or a cover -- who cares douchebag??

Who cares?

They play.
They get up there and they work it -- for good or for bad.

And you have nothing useful to say about that whatever except you don't like tribute bands and the setlist is a shambles.

Like you own the fucking place.

Fuck you and everyone that looks like you

Yes I knew you had to be about 13, seems you're like 11. I never did go in for that type of juvenile come back ever. So my friend( and I use the term tounge in cheek), well done! Absolutely superb. When one runs out of the ability to articulate a point they resolve to that type of purile toilet humour.

I have never treated this board as if I own it. Have The Dukes of Dullness ever been played on radio, released an original LP, no? Well I hate to brag, but I have. Now this debate is boring your picture off me big style, so go ahead and adore The Dukes Of Hazard and I'll pass. I actually if pushed have a much better pic of the human anatomy which I think would suit you to a tee, know what I mean?

Oh my, this has escalated to an unfortunate level, and I'm further reminded that as i approach my 50th birthday, my annual physical exams will take on an intimate and invasive new direction.

With this level of vitriol, jb might come back, so let's agree to disagree, acknowledge that we continue to love the Stones, and enjoy the live Sticky Finger deluxe bonus tracks or the Marquee Club DVD.

Yeah sorry about the sphincter pic.
That particular procedure is less than fun.

The escalation was purely me.
I was feisty yesterday and took it out on gypsymofo because I thought his treatment of you and your band was pretty shabby.

But it is his opinion, and if that is the way he feels, who the fuck am I to say?

I am not a seasoned musician with any original songs or recordings.  Maybe if I were I would share the same feelings about other bands.  Maybe I would develop what I perceived in gypsymofo as kind of "snobby" attitude towards a cover band (or a tribute band or whatever band).  I just don't know, I am not him.

I know that I have played for about 8 years.  After 8 years of spare-time playing, I recognize how difficult it is to get a good group together to play together and develop individually and as a unit.  The truly great ones make it look so easy, but it is work.  So anyhow, I admire what you are doing and keep us posted -- TomL and I are in the area, and I will come check y'all out.

The pic was an excellent PSA that Katie Couric would embrace. Would enjoy meeting you and TomL and see if you'd still want to speak with me following our set(s). Mel Belli is also in the area as we discovered we're both in the DC 'industry' and share a friend or two outside of the Stones obsession. I hope to wrangle him into attending at some point as well.

Yeah look, I'm sorry too. I did not realise this guy in the Dukes was a member, and I know that is no excuse too be so derogatory, but sincere apologies are all I have, too anyone I may have offended. And Nanky the sphincter shot was really funny actually I laughed, I was not remotely offended. So; let's leave it there, and move on. I hope the Dukes enjoyed there night. Dukes, rock on, Nanky's right. You got a band, you're obviously talented, and you are young enough to enjoy it. So good luck for the future. Mofo.
