Title: What Makes GYYYO so awesome??
Post by Paranoid Android on Jan 23rd, 2015 at 11:05pm
I recently road tripped back up to NY by myself. Gathered some CDs that I have not listened to in quite some time. Get Your Ya-Ya's Out was one of them. Drove up I-95 with this and other blaring thru my speakers...even got a rockin' nod and wink from a cute toll collector in Delaware!!

WHAT A GREAT ALBUM!!! I always knew it was, but NEVER KNEW IT LIKE THIS!!!

So...I ask you, my fellow inmates...

WHAT MAKES THIS ALBUM SO GREAT FOR YOU?!?

Also...does anyone know who plays what parts/solos on SFTD? Are Taylor and Richards trading off licks?...or is it just one of them or what???

That track is amazing...it jams like The Grateful Dead in the PigPen days and tears it up like
like no ones business throughout.

For me, it's a great document of my childhood discovery of the Stones, despite grown-ups' complaints about the overdubs and edited songs.  At age 12, I used to play sides of GYYYO intersticed with sides of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, like they were a 4-record set.  Played them till my parents hollered.

The magic is all in the performances, the song selections from the 1969 setlist, and the added sweetening.  Perhaps the greatest live album, despite the parts that aren't live.

Second greatest live album: Dig the New Breed, by The Jam.  Try it if you don't believe me.

SFTD has two Keith solos from different MSG nights, yes?  Hence the editing complaints, since there was rightfully only one solo each night.

See the Apple Acetate bootleg of GYYYO for a more stripped down version of the LP.

The groove during the instrumental break on Carol may be the best live band ever recorded. Stones at their zenith.

SFTD - 1st solo Keith , 2nd solo Mick Taylor .Both are stunning. Pre open G and Teles ,but Keith never sounded better IMHO.

1. Mick Taylor
2. Chuck Berry songs rearranged to sound like the Stones own material
3. Midnight Rambler
4. Live With Me
5. The fact that the Stones want you to GET YOUR TITS OUT.

Other than that, it's just a damn special album.

Bill's bass mix is the loudest he ever got on record til Emotional Rescue. Very strong rhythm attack/mix (even though he's a bit out of tune on JJ Flash, incredible for such a focused player as he)
