It's billed as a "swishy-swashy Jack Daniels toast to getting by just as you are" - and if that's enough to intrigue you, then you'll want to mark Feb. 4 to 7 on your calendars.

That's when the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts is presenting The Keith Richards One Woman Show.

Presented by Suitcase in Point Theatre, the show chronicles the story of Mona, who can't get enough of the Rolling Stones - and Keith Richards in particular.

"She's pretty well obsessed. She's also not sleeping. She is going with Keith Richards to a boat in the middle of nowhere," a press release says.

"A chain-smoking, prophesying Richards summons rollicking memories to show this small-town, sleep-deprived 'Keith junkie' that you can't emulate your heroes."

Performed by Deanna Jones, Mona's trip takes her through Keith's life from boyhood to his drug bust in Toronto in 1977 - with a live rock score played by Kevin Richardson.

Check out www.suitcaseinpoint.com for more. The Keith Richards One Woman Show is onstage at the Shadbolt Centre Feb. 4 to 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $35, and they're available through the box office at 604-205-3000 or tickets.shadboltcentre.com

Sounds stupid as hell, more patronizing of Richards for his dope use and dickishness rather than his great music.

Must be fucking embarrassing for Keith these days to have such twats glorifying all his bad points. While he's still alive no less.

Ya think? IMO it's an image he's quite shamelessly milked for decades (some of the more cringeworthy parts of "Life" being the most obvious example) and  one that has long outlived his career as a creative artist.

Most art has a pretty limited shelf life in terms of commercial popularity or cultural impact. An iconic image or notoriety can last decades if not centuries. Certainly well beyond the natural life of the subject.

I dunno, the thing that gets me about it is that I remember, as a YoungRat, how nobody knew who Keith was and when they did, they really thought it was weird that a young girl like me was obsessed with him.

Now look.

Calm down Jackson...it's alright...it's just a Canadian show

It really gets on my tits how people glorify bad behaviour in great musicians (I'm no saint or puritan myself) while often the music seems to be considered almost secondary sometimes.

Richards, Charlie Parker, Lou Reed, Johnny Thunders, Jim Carroll...their reputations are wrapped up in the brilliant music/art which is inspiring and life-affirming and timeless. NOT in their sometimes troubled personal lives, which should be viewed as transitory, an unfortunate blip in the ongoing river flow of talented, sensitive people trying to express themselves.

The chemical dependency and bullshit image stuff is not - as Mr. Shakespeare put it, "the thing". The play is.

Interestingly, whenever I would tell people who Keith was they'd say "Oh, the junkie!"

It's not just drugs, oh, person-who-calls-himself-Mr.-Yeats. People do it with personality disorders as well. And then there's the Rat-invented disorders: The Jim Morrison Asshole Complex and its tech-brother The Steve Jobs Problem.

People pick the easiest things they can emulate about so-called genius and copy. Of course, following one's own path is only marginally (re: occassionally...increasingly occasionally, actually) successful. Then there's, for instance, The Black Crowes.
