Title: X-Factor tomorrow (ITV) --> Ronnie with One Direction
Post by Gazza on Dec 13th, 2014 at 6:01pm
Hate to be the one to inform you of this, but it seems that a "Rolling Stones legend" will be performing with One Direction on this appalling show tomorrow night.

I'm assuming its Woody, as he seems to be quite friendly with Harry Styles.

I should point out that I dont watch this utter shite as a point of principle (anything to do with Simon Cowell is banned at Gazza Towers) - but got a text earlier from a mate with less taste who happened to be watching it.

Probably Woody. What if it's Bill? That could be some great TV!

Woody would show up for the opening of a broom closet.

I love that! What was the original quote? "Woody would show up for the opening of an envelope". Who said that? Keith?

Doubt he said it first. Very common parlance. "he'd turn up for the opening of a packet of potato crisps" is another.

Wont be tuning in. Will be watching the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show on the other side to hopefully see Rory McIlroy win.

Ronnie would show up at the opening of Harry Styles' botty etc.
Or is it: Sally would turn up at the opening of Harry Styles' trousers?

Presumably R gets something tasty (scenester stories, cheer, yout', yout'-fulish angles, the chance to throw a dirty curve) from popping in & out of One Erection's lives.

Happy oy yehs

I've heard the name One Direction but haven't knowingly heard a song yet. Are they like the Jonas Brothers? I must listen. Maybe they're really great...

(As I type this I'm listening to Tom Waits' 'Bloody Money' album. A swell line for Woody from "God's Away On Business":
"Goddamn, it's always such a big temptation to be good...")

Ever since this rubbish was broadcast, the amount of abuse I have received is quite impressive. I just told them that there is a first time for everything, oh wait, hang on:

That's the first One direction song I've knowingly heard, and hopefully the last.
They're not, um, very good are they...
The music industry, such as it is, seems to be quite desperate these days. But to be fair, there's always been shit music about.

This too shall pass.

More like 'what is that' ?

There are ways of bringing in new fans, but bouncing around with a manufactured boyband a quarter of your age playing one of their songs (not his) on a reality show that's almost single handedly killed the music industry stone dead and which is watched by people who have zero taste in music to begin with or no concept of the musical universe outside these karaoke farces isn't one of them.

Pointless and embarrassing IMO.

Nothing against One Direction personally. They seem likeable enough kids and by all accounts it was a big thrill for them to play with Ronnie. But real musicians shouldnt be touching or endorsing these kind of phoney shows with a bargepole IMO. Had he played with them at an awards show, it'd be not quite as hideous - but the X-Factor (or its 'American Idol' equivalent) is a joke concept for pretty much anyone with any musical taste.

This is a big One Direction house...all the recordings and all the DVDs. Admittedly spurred on by 12 and 10 year old girls...

The girls absolutely adore Ronnie when Hampton or Flicks is on the TV ( between 1D movies)...as the boy band refers to Ronnie quite often as a role model. The girls are disappointed that Ronnie smokes but they seem to have looked past this shortcoming.

So this video absolutely blew them away with excitement.

That said, I thought Ronnie looked very out of place. It looked a bit like a museum exhibit when the 4th grade shows up to look at it...

Thanks for the links

Amen.

And to quote one Sugar Miami Silvio Little Steven Van Zandt: "Rock n' roll isn't entertainment. It's motivation".

Doesn't look like Ronnie helped the ratings any.

Some Boys: Ronnie Wood Performs With One Direction

Lyndsey Parker
Managing Editor

Mick Jagger once said, incredibly, that One Direction reminded him of the Rolling Stones. And apparently Mick’s bandmate, Ronnie Wood, feels a similar kinship with the boy band. X Factor U.K. viewers were in for a massive surprise Sunday, when the Stones axeman, age 67, joined the 1D lads (ages 20-21) on the show’s Season 11 finale.

"It’s a Rolling Stone! RONNIE WOOD!" howled the arguably most Jagger-like One Direction member, Harry Styles, as Ronnie bounded out, rocking a gravity-defying ‘do that put Harry’s lush locks to shame. As Ronnie joined in on the new 1D single "Where Do Broken Hearts Go?," at one point Harry bowed down at Ronnie’s booted feet, dropped to his knees, and played air-guitar. Meanwhile, Harry’s bandmate, Niall Horan, played real guitar and excitedly traded licks with the Stone.

This probably shouldn’t have worked, and surely many classic rock fans found the pairing between a guitar legend and some blokes who placed third on The X Factor U.K. Season 7 quite tragic. But the 1D boys’ unabashed adulation (particularly Harry’s) was endearing, and it was clear that Ronnie was having a grand time as well. "They’re a great bunch of guys and really fabulous fun to work with, you know?” said Ronnie.

Added Niall: “As a guitarist and fan of guitarists, it doesn’t get too much better than this. I’m absolutely honored to even be on the stage with this man.”

This collaboration has actually been in the cards for some time. Back in 2012, Ronnie told Britain’s Daily Mirror that he’d taken the boys “under his wing" after meeting them at a GQ party, and that he’d love to play guitar with them one day. That evening, Niall tweeted: “Great night at GQ dinner! met Ronnie Wood, he said we gotta jam on stage sometime.i was like what the !! what an absolute legend /hero!” and Harry tweeted, “Just shared a brief embrace with Ronnie Wood. He smelt like 29 Studio albums, 10 live albums and rich mahogany.”

And what was Mick Jagger’s opinion of his bandmate’s moonlighting X Factor appearance? Ronnie told X Factor host Dermot O’Leary: “He thinks it’s fantastically funny, and hilariously creative.” Yes, that pretty much sums it up.

Ben Haenow won Season 11 of The X Factor U.K. this weekend. The finale will air in the States on AXS TV Monday night.

Meanwhile at 55K feet over the pacific aboard  AirStones...

Keef: Ronny...what's that crap riff you keep playing?

Ronny: Uhm....oh, nothing....

Keef: Well, for nothing, you seem to want to get it right...

Ronny: Well, practice makes perfect, dunnit?

Keef: PRACTICE? Practice for what?

Ronny: KEEF...How's that Winos project coming along??

==========================================================

I wonder though, did the Stones Machine ala Sir Jagger have to give approval for this to have happened? Was it rationalized as some sort of marketing ploy by the Machine and lawyers?

Somehow I just don't think it was really this simple:

Just watched the video clip...Sounds exactly like the Pre-ballad Bryan Adams...I couldn't even hear Ronny's guitar...or maybe i did but the lights and horrible camera angles didnt allow me to distinguish what he was playing...

To me...there is great pop and bad pop...this is deff in the latter group

The rumble you just heard is Ian McLagan and Ronnie Lane violently spinning in their graves.
