John Lydon Mocks Rolling Stones Live Show

Don’t expect to see former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten, in the audience at a Rolling Stones concert anytime soon.

The ever-outspoken Lydon shared his disdain for the current state of the Stones’ live show during a recent public appearance to promote his book, ‘Anger Is an Energy.’ Asked if he believed there should be an age limit on performing in rock, he sniffed, “No, only if you’re Mick Jagger. Did anybody see last year’s Glastonbury? I mean, come on, Mick.”

And actually, added Lydon, his problems with the show didn’t have everything to do with the group’s senior citizen status. “It’s not about age here, its about the show-off bulls—,” he explained. “I wanted the Stones to give us the juice, the stuff that really put them there in the first place.”

Instead, he argued, the audience got “Mick in ladies’ tights and his testicles are frocked and he’s running around like a speed freak and then there’s the band looking incredibly embarrassed and wearing the awful, I call them Tommy Hilfiger kind of colors, like Cliff Richard-on-holiday wear.”

Sex Pistols fans don’t have to worry about seeing a similar spectacle. Responding to a question about further reunions from the band, Lydon scoffed, “Oh no, that’s finished. I mean, have you seen us? We’ve all put on weight, but [guitarist Steve Jones] is coming it at 500 pounds! And I did the butter advert!”

I'm glad he's still breaking Mick's balls. You know why?

Because it means all these years later that the Stones are still on the fucking road.

Ah, that's just John, what he does. He loves the Stones (all the class of '76 guys did, really).

Mick did quietly pay for Sid's legal defense after being charged with killing Nancy. John knows this and has publicly expressed his gratitude.

He's just an old pro taking the piss out of another old pro. Both of them play the same game.

Hoping for his final 15 minutes I suppose....and targeting Mick gets his book some easy publicity. Rotten indeed.....

Richards has said far nastier things about Jagger. People don't seem to mind when he does it.

The funny part about this is that there are few bigger whores who show off than John Lydon.

I thought this was pretty funny. People shouldnt get so precious.

What does it mean to have frocked testicles?

Maybe he's suggesting he has "old man balls" and they're being supported to make it look like they're not sagging.

Yep. This is John Lydon/Rotten talking. He's a smart and funny bloke. He's made a career out of, not just music, but taking the piss. He loves the Stones (wouldn't be at all surprised if he and Mick were friendly or even mates), but he's also a utopian idealist with unrealistic expectations from the human race, a wicked sense of humor and sarcasm, and a penchant for strong lager. What do you expect?

looks like he's ready for the new MAD MAX movie starring as grandpa

I think it's cool that Johnny Rotten went to see the Stones at the Glastonbury bash.  Who would have predicted that in the Bollocks days?  Mind-blowing, amazing events and circumstances seem to follow the Stones everywhere and endlessly.
