AUSTIN (KXAN) – Iconic local musician Ian McLagan is in critical condition at an Austin hospital with what a source tells KXAN is a head injury.

Mac, as he’s known, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with “Small Faces” and “Faces” in 2012. He has also worked with the Rolling Stones.

McLagan plays in Austin with his Bump Band and is scheduled to be on tour with Nick Lowe right now.

Nothing official but it's being reported that he has indeed passed away from a brain hemorrhage.

Also being reported that the above is a hoax.

Will somebody please round up Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie and seal them in a bubble with 24 hour medical supervision????!!!!!!

God – it’s almost unreal. Bobby yesterday and Mac today. I’m a Mac fan, and he seemed like such a lovely guy. I remember being very moved by how beautifully he wrote of his late wife, Kim. He was a great player. I never had the chance to see the Bump Band live, but feel very fortunate to have seen him perform with the New Barbarians, Bonnie Raitt and the Stones. Love and light to all of those whose lives he touched. He will be missed.

Anyone know where or why it was shot? It's obviously a pro shot, in a studio, but live.

Interesting choice to get Ringo on drums, and actually playing too. I guess Charlie had left LA and Ziggy was still in New Orleans, and Ringo lived there, so why not? (I would have thought Keltner, as he was local as well).
It's a good clip and a good performance I think; wonder why Keith couldn't make it. Maybe to not steal the spotlight from Woody?

Mac playing with Westerberg (the Faces were his favorite band, even over the Stones). He wrote a great essay for the Faces 'Five Guys Walk In to a Bar...' box set.
Together they sound like Johnny Johnson and Chuck Berry. Or Ian Stewart and Keith Richards (who's a big Westerberg/Replacements fan).

Naah.

Cluster Theory might explain such things scientifically (and you might include L'Wren among your unfortunate three).

I can't see - or at least wish not to imagine - the lovely supporting musicians' demises having the hefty effect that Ian Stewart's did.

Tears to the hanky, trousers to the laundry, balls to the wallpaper, and carry on regardless-ish, onwards & upwards...?

Well, if anything Keith being there would have helped publicise it.

I guess this was before the Barbarians tour rehearsals and he wasnt available.

Then again as he'd just met Patti a couple of weeks earlier, maybe he was still just too loved up...

When I woke up this morning my first thought was the chilidish one more people probably had...perhaps this was just a bad dream. But alas..

Like Fotini I too had my fingers crossed for Mac returning to the keyboards at the start of any tour in recent history. I even had my hopes up earlier this year when a friend of mine said the Chuck had a problem in his schedule...but sadly it didn't happen.

There'll be more days like these in the coming years, unfortunately. Let's just hope mother nature slows down the pace..a lot.

From Small Faces Facebook page:

It has been a roller coaster of emotions. First I was delighted to announce the arrival of my first grandson and then had to announce the death of my dearest friend and band mate Mac Ian McLagan. Mac had a massive stroke and was airlifted to hospital where he was visited by friends and family before they turned of the ventilator. He passed away peacefully at 2.39pm Austin time. I am absolutely devastated and quite speechless. He shared some of the most wonderful years of my life and I am still shocked. Please share my thoughts for his family and fans as he will always be with us. He has gone to join Steve and Ronnie but way too soon, on a journey to the other half of the moon. All my love, Kenney

I asked him about his personal life, he said his wife died but he never got over it, never dated again, his heart belongs only to her and always will. So I hope they are reunited now in heaven. RIP Mac. You were a gem among men and a dedicated, talented musician.

That's a damn fine pic of you and Mac, Bitch. I seem to detect a bit of spirited mischief there!

I asked him about his personal life, and he told me his wife Kim passed away but his heart will always belong to her and no other, she was the love of his life. But he seemed pleased that I was interested in him and we talked at his table as he signed autographs of his book. Wonderful, talented, sweetheart of a man and his book is good too. The pics are a few year old, taken in NYC.

Fantastic pictures of you with Mac and with Bobby!

Thanks Voo! I never expected either of them to go so quickly, they were both so vibrant, with no signs of slowing down.

Oh, Bitch - I didn't mean to imply that you were hitting on Mac - but if you were, hell, good on you! He was one of the better looking/ preserved guys of all his contemporaries (must have got sober long before many others) Plus you look very cute (and mischievious!) in that pic.
Yeah, I was aware of his wife Kim's death, and he had stated in several interviews that he just didn't want to be with any one else. In fact there's an excellent and very funny interview with him from just a few months ago where he talks about writing a new song about how hard it is to go on a date after 33 years of marriage. I'll track it down and post it here.

A very good, in depth, revealing and very funny interview with Mac from last June. The man was quite a talker!

Mick's silence is deafening. My guess is Keith will show up to Bobby Keys funeral but none of them will bother for Mac. Maybe Ronnie and possibly Keith, but I won't hold my breath.

Mac's passing is just awful. He was such a magical musician. He was still making great records by himself and always had interesting things to say. Just a true shame that the Stones didn't have it in them to invite him to play more often.

Seems a tad harsh, Wick. How many of the other hundreds of musicians Mac played with haven't issued public statements?
No one knows who's going to who's funeral. It's no one's business unless you're family or a friend.

Fair enough but they do have a tendency not to say much about people who added such magic to the Stones. Also, I understand the hundreds of other musicians who haven't not spoken, but he's bloody Mick Jagger and it would be nice for a permanent A lister to issue a statement and put Mac's name in lights. As for the funeral, it's sort of the same issue. It will make people take notice of a spectacular musician. It just bothers me how the Stones, more than almost any other band, have no desire to properly embrace their past.

Thanks for posting the link to the article, Mr. Yeats – really enjoyed it. Funny candid bit at the end about the R&R HOF & wanting to kill Green Day and G&R (can’t really blame the guy, especially considering the circumstances).

Thanks also to those who’ve posted all the great pics on this thread – many are new to me and I’ve enjoyed seeing them (and Bitch, that is a fabulous shot of you & Mac together – you’re both beaming!).

Just want to share the beautiful words Mac wrote about his beloved wife, Kim:

"She is my shining light and always will be. Her life was a testament to love and healing and everyone who met her felt the glow from this warm, loving and giving being. She means everything to me but I know we'll be together again in a better place. She is a flower and a dream, and finally the Angel she always was...Her family and friends are spread all over the world but the outpouring of love for her is just a reflection of the love she gave. She said, "You get what you give" and as always she's absolutely right. Kim is an Angel, finally."
