I'm awake and a little disappointed. The Stones have always pushed it a little further when doing rescheduled shows (see Atlantic City 2006). But, as usual, I'm sure the audience was thrilled.

The setlists are going to be war horse heavy. It seems to be the norm with many acts.
The 40 Licks tour was fantastic, wasn't it? Three nights in some markets, with deep deep cuts in the non-stadium gigs. |

Hi Rocks Off folk. Terry from the Australian Stones Podcast 'Stonesmonth' here. I interviewed my co-host Johnny Collin straight after he emerged from The Adelaide show with all the news. Listening link below.

I hate to make this joke, because I loved Glen Campbell as a boy - but I suspect that he remembers more songs.
I'll bet that in Vegas betting on the Stones' setlist has been for some time banned. |

Well all that time in the mental hospital really paid off. Excellent performance. If they are this together first night out in a stadium the arena shows to come will be crackers.

I always knew this show would be pretty light on for song variations. I expect the arena gigs will have the customary 1 or 2 songs difference. They did LSTNT in Sydney 06, so apart from 2-3 songs, it was the same set list.

Just the lazy ones. With quite a few acts from the same generation, its far from 'war horse heavy' , its downright adventurous. Its still a bloody good show, and a large percentage of it being some of their best known songs is to be expected. But, when you're talking about a show with only 19 songs, rotating some of those 'well known songs' in and out of the set isnt a big ask. As it is, you have five or six relatively well known songs competing for the 'webvote' (where the shortlist will generally favour a well known song, as the people voting are people sitting at a pc who arent going to the show) and one other song about five songs in (usually the 'ballad' part of the show). |

Rolling Stones deliver plenty of satisfaction at Adelaide Oval for 54,115 excited fans
NATHAN DAVIES Sunday Mail (SA) October 25, 2014 THEY were a dangerous band once, these Rolling Stones. The anti-Beatles, the bad boys of rock and roll. Hard-drinking drug-taking, womanising, tax-dodging reprobates who dominated the front pages for all the wrong reasons. They famously hired the Hells Angels for security at Altamont and a young man lost his life. Two concerts in Adelaide in 1973 turned into two nights of rioting, cops versus kids on the streets around Memorial Drive. How things change. Who would’ve thought, all those years ago, that the Queen would bestow Mick Jagger with a knighthood? Or that the State Government would stump up a wad of taxpayers’ cash to secure the Stones as the new Adelaide Oval’s opening act in March. Tragedy, of course, meant that never happened, but if tonight’s crowd was anything to go by plenty of people held on to their tickets. The hip and the hip-replaced, young and old, good old fashioned bogans and inner-city sophisticates — they all turned out in force to witness what’s still, 50 years on, the biggest show in rock and roll. The lights go down, a cheer goes up and Charlie takes his seat. It’s time to rock. Those familiar chords ring out — Jumping Jack Flash gets proceedings underway. The band looks amazing — the combined BMI must be about 19 — and they’re full of energy as they launch into Let’s Spend The Night Together. “We’re sorry we kept you waiting so long,” Mick, resplendent in a green sequined jacket, joked. “At least the concrete’s had time to set in your new stadium.” Only Rock and Roll is next, followed by the rollicking Tumbling Dice. Mick makes some footy small talk while Ronnie sucks down a quick dart, then it’s time to tone it down a little with Wild Horses. Mick straps on a Fender Telecaster to rip through Doom and Gloom, then it’s a cover of Bob Dylan’s seminal Like A Rolling Stone, as requested by fans on Twitter. It rocks, and we’re even treated to a Jagger harmonica solo. “Thank you Bob Dylan for writing that song for us — he’s such a sweetheart when you get to know him,” Mick jokes. The slinky Out Of Control is next, with the Rasta-headbanded Keith and pirate-like Ronnie applying some wah-wah. Honky Tonk Women marks a return to the classics, then Keith takes to the mike and belts out Happy and the jaunty I Can’t be Seen With You. He would’ve made a pretty decent frontman, old Keith. Mick’s back, and he’s bought another Mick with him for Midnight Rambler - the legendary Mick Taylor. Taylor, who’s clearly off the Tolling Stones diet, wails like only he can. This is rock and roll folks. Or is it disco? Miss You has everyone grooving next. Gimme Shelter - the Stones’ true masterpiece - allows backing singer Lisa Fischer to truly shine. Man, what a voice! Start Me Up sees Mick turn the strut up to 11, before donning the feather cape for Sympathy For the Devil. Brown Sugar’s next, and anyone hoping for a set of hits must be smiling widely by now. Then bang, that’s it, lights out. But of course it’s not. Here comes a 12-piece choir - “you can’t always get what you want” their angelic voices tell us, but we’re inclined to disagree at this stage. A stage invader interrupts the show, but only momentarily as he’s swiftly taken down by security. “All part of the show,” says Mick. Satisfaction - of course - wraps up the night. They’re might not be the youngest band in the world, and they’re not always the tightest, but godammit, they know how to rock. And we like it. |

Rambler and OOC were epic.
Taylor was riffing on some amazing notes. He didn't want to stop. Sensed some anger in the air with band. Keef was ripping a long solo and Mick traded looks with Lisa like 'wtf is he doing..' But it's why we love them. LOTS of old boring Adelaide 'event' people at show. We were front row and people in the 2 rows behind sat during Rambler! I almost yelled out to security. During OOC they didnt know what was happening. And they were first up for Miss You. Couples on either side of us in Diamond VIP Row A had freebies. Killer show, but I'm thinking Stadium Stones are done for me. Bring on the arenas. It will be a fan fest, and hopefully Memory Motel gets a run. Next stop for me, Melbourne pit with Corgi. |

Proposterous / insulting stage-invasion, from the ruddy rear, aside ("it's all part of the act") this was happy g'days all around, shirley? Charlie's gentle tap on MJ's bottom, entering the Oval, set more than a little loveliness in motion?

If Jagger really told Mick Taylor to shut up, he should have punched him square in the gob. Not the smartest financial move, but I would have love it if he really said that to him.

Didn't know at the time but my wife sneakily filmed me making my way to our front row seats. A bit self indulgent to share, but you get a view of stage and setup. A great memory to come back to in years to come. |

A Great show.
I was second row Section A3, amazing to be that close again Midnight Rambler and Gimme Shelter were the highlight for me The stage intruder was hilarious, as the intruder was being tackled to the ground by multiple security guards and without missing a beat Mick quips “All part of the act, some Aussies Rules tackling!” http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/watch-the-rolling-stones-adelaide-stage-invader-get-nailed-by-security/ Look forward to the Sydney show now |

Yes. I dont mean that I expected him to highlight the reason for the postponements, but I've been at rescheduled Stones gigs before where he's had the courtesy to acknowledge it (and others where he hasnt bothered) Was interested considering the tragic circumstances behind these postponements how he would have worded it |

I was seats 11 & 12 I saw some people sitting down. they were behind me. Heavier girls...probably not used to standing all that long ;) I saw another guy who looked close to 90 didn't sit down the whole concert The lady next to me caught Ronnie's pick and another lady one row behind caught Charlie's drumstick I'm in the pit in Sydney show |

I was reading on other forums that Paul McCartney's set lists have been the same for ten years and that they will stop supporting his shows until he mixes it up a little. The Tom Petty tour features only the hits. Not a b side in sight! But the overwhelming thing I read in the forums and in the comments sections of news about these older acts is that for the price of a ticket, they better play only the big hits and no deep cuts. I was very thankful to catch all three Philly shows on the Licks Tour. I got to hear so many songs that I'll never hear again. |

Cool vid from Deathgod. I never saw the Stones outside Europe, so the seats up front look weird to me. There's no seats in the arena's over here. Great if you want to jump around, and I always do when I'm at a Stones show. Must be annoying for other people to have a jumping fat man in their personal space though, so I can see the benefits of a front row seat too, but still..weird.
Hope all you Aussie folks had a blast or have a blast in the days ahead. |
