Title: "Olé Tour 2016" - The Latin American leg of the tour updates, etc -
Post by Gazza on Aug 7th, 2014 at 10:05am
Seems the bidding war for promoting the Argentina shows in February 2015 has been settled, with the Fenix production company winning out

Links here (in Spanish)

http://www.elpais.com.uy/divertite/musica/rolling-stones-buenos-aires-febrero.html
http://www.elobservador.com.uy/noticia/285010/los-rolling-stones-llegaran-a-buenos-aires/
http://www.clarin.com/politica/productora-Fenix-pulseada-Rolling-Stones_0_1189081135.html

My Spanish isnt too good and google translate isnt really doing a good job here - so, am I reading this right that the Argentinian shows will be in Buenos Aires at River Plate after all (as usual) and not in De la Plata as previously speculated?

As speculated previously, it seems there will also be shows in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay and Chile. Costa Rica is also rumoured.

Have heard nothing solid of any plans beyond a Latin American leg, aside from speculation about a couple of London dates.

Personally, I'd be amazed if the Stones let whatever touring time they have left pass by without playing the new Wembley Stadium at some point.

Well then I'd better start saving for my Bucket List trip to London!!!

I still think they will swing by the US for a couple shows and finish it off in London!

MSG and new Wembley.

well, as they'll be in Mexico, its not exactly a stretch to venture north for a couple of very lucrative gigs in the same run.  Not enough to turn it into a tour though if theyre already going to be playing about 14-15 shows. That seems to be the ceiling for tour legs at the minute

COSTA RICA!!!!!!

PURA VIDA!!
Anyone wanna join me??

A nice residency in NYC would be sweet prior to any London shows...or a wee hop, skip, and jump for Miami, DC, NY before the jump over the pond

From our friends at StonesPlanetBrazil :

The Stones would play in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Lima, Santiago de Chile, Medellín, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Porto Alegre. Other cities may also be included. Belo Horizonte is not out, but there would still be hit. Please stay calm and wait for the official.

and from yesterday :

As the second half progresses anxiety listings of concerts by the Stones begins to increase. The South American leg of the tour is about to be announced. There are reports that the dates and locations can begin to be revealed between September and October. Not all shows would be announced immediately. It is possible that more dates will be added later.
Anyway, stay tuned, because customarily ticket sales begins a few days after gazetted dates.
Buenos Aires, in principle, should have announced two shows, which could then increase. Montevideo, Lima, Santiago, Mexico City, San José (Costa Rica) shows the band can receive. In Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (no arm wrestle between the stages of Palmeiras and Corinthians to host the event) almost certainly will be included. Porto Alegre and Belo Horizonte are also in the race, with remote chances to Recife.

Another update, courtesy of Stones Planet Brazil :

20/03 - Belo Horizonte - Brasil, Estádio do Mineirão
24/03 - Medellín - Colômbia
28/03 - Lima - Peru

The expectation is that within 15 or 20 days the Rolling Stones announce South American tour of 2015. The dates and locations of the presentations more speculates about is are the ones that put it below. They can confirm or not, but should not run a lot of it. So we have to information, tickets would begin to be sold between October and November-no information about prices

13/02-Santiago-Chile, possibly National Stadium
16/02 to 02/03-Buenos Aires, three to five presentations, Estadio Monumental de Nuñez
05/03-Montevideo, Uruguay-Estadio Centenario
08/03-Porto Alegre-Brazil, possibly Beira-Rio Stadium
11/03 and 14/03-São Paulo-Brazil, Allianz Park
17/03-Rio de Janeiro-Brazil, maracana Stadium
20/03-Belo Horizonte-BrazilThe Mineirão Stadium
24/03-Medellin-Colombia
28/03-Lima-Peru

during the first days of April the Stones should play on Costa Rica and Mexico, ending the tour.

As we mentioned, these dates and locations are unofficial. Can confirm or not, but will be more or less around.

EDITOR'S OPINION: there are too many dates, the calendar is too heavy for this projection. It is possible that two or three dates are cut. Current patterns indicate a schedule less populated.

I've heard the Rock in Rio rumour for both Bruce and the Stones from a couple of sources.

I wouldnt rely on this guy's blogs for credibility, though. Every week or so he posts the most ludicrous rumours about Springsteen's future plans for tours and releases, and then changes it a few days later.

(see here for some of the speculative nonsense posted in recent weeks - https://sites.google.com/site/thundercrackspringsteen/rumors)

I think he just makes most of them up as he goes along so its hard to sort out the reliable ones from the nonsensical. The words 'attention whore' spring to mind. Sooner or later he'll get one right.

There's talk of some large scale US dates around May for the Stones, so 'Rock in Rio' may well fit into that time frame. We're talking a small number of shows, though - maybe 6-10.

Would make sense as there's also gathering rumours of a couple of dates in London for early summer - which would probably be at the new Wembley Stadium.

If the Stones ARE winding down this tour next summer, it would make absolute sense for them to do more American shows - if they stick to the template they used for Europe this summer (ie, more reasonable prices, large shows, some festivals), they wouldnt have to limit themselves to a select few areas like they did last spring in the US, as only a few cities could support shows at those prices.

Tom Johnson on BTX said that he didn't think the Stones would hit the road again after South America until after Memorial Day next year. Which would leave out Rock In RIO US.

LOL...welcome to Rocks Off (great username, by the way)

September/October announcement for South America, going by the above StonesPlanetBrazil posts. So, we should hear very soon.

Any tour legs beyond those are still pretty speculative. Dont hold your breath for an announcement.

I understand Rock in Rio goes on sale this weekend. Whether they announce who's playing that festival before tickets go on sale is another thing, though. There'll be 80,000 tickets available for each of the two weekends, I believe, with regular tickets at something close to $300 and VIP packages at around $500.

Those prices for a GA show would certainly suggest that an act with a very high guarantee would be on the bill!

Rock in Rio USA announces 2015 dates and ticket info

BY ALEX YOUNG AND BEN KAYEON SEPTEMBER 20, 2014, 7:31PM

Rock in Rio’s first North American festival will take place in Las Vegas over two weekends, May 8th – 9th and May 15th – 16th, 2015, at the City of Rock MGM Resorts Festival Grounds.

Tickets to each weekend are priced at $298.00 GA and $498.00 VIP. A pre-sale will begin September 26th at 4:00pm PT through Ticketmaster.com.

Considered to be the world’s largest music festival, Rock in Rio has previously held festivals in Brazil, Lisbon, and Madrid. Its expansion into the US is the result of a partnership between the festival and Cirque du Soleil, MGM Resorts International, and developer Ron Burkle of The Yucaipa Companies. According to Billboard, a deal is currently in place to hold the event once every two years between now and 2019.

The festival will take place at the newly constructed City of Rock and it will feature all the state-of-the-art flash and pop you’d expect from Sin City. To be constructed near Circus Circus, the City will be a 33-acre, 80,000-person capacity open-air venue with five stages, including specific EDM and “indie” stages. As attendees traverse the grounds they’ll walk through “streetscapes” designed to feel like the UK, Brazil, and the USA, complete with geographically-appropriate food, shopping, and street art. There are also plans for amusement rides like a giant roulette table ferris wheel and a 400-foot zip-line which, if the mockups become reality, will take fans right in front of the main stage.

Below, watch a virtual tour of Rock in Rio USA.

There'll be a delay in the announcement of the South American dates due to issues with the promoters of the Argentinian concerts

StonesPlanetBrazil :

Rough Translation :
It is possible that the announcement of the South American tour of Stones will not take place during the month of September. The promoters of the Argentine leg of the tour are having difficulty making the payment of the $ 25 million required by AEG Live to confirm the presentations.
Restrictions for sending dollars abroad (logo for payment) would undermine the confirmation of five concerts in the River Plate. On the other hand, the prosecutor was enjoying the scenery to get tax cuts (I've no idea what the fuck this bit means! - Gazza).
There is no indication that there is a risk of cancellation of concerts in Buenos Aires, or even the rest of the continent presentations, but there may be a delay in the official tour. Everything must be confirmed soon.
AEG Live requires prepayment of approximately $ 5 million per show. Would remain the only solution of the Argentine case so that everything is confirmed.

Still no announcement line up, though (mind you, thats never stopped Glastonbury selling out in nano-seconds)

I dont imagine we're talking about MUCH of a delay for confirmation of South American dates.  Maybe they'll just end up going with a different promoter.

There's talk now that the problems with the Buenos Aires shows may end up seeing the South American leg put back until later in 2015 - or even cancelled altogether.

Not the first time that economic reasons have seen plans for a Latin American leg being cancelled (see also 1975 and 2003)

Five shows being pulled in their main South American market leaves a huge hole in that tour leg which may render this part of the tour unviable.

A pity if this is true, because everything seemed to be pretty much in place for the other dates there.

Source for the story :
http://www.bemparana.com.br/noticia/352601/rolling-stones-podem-adiar-shows-no-brasil-em-2015

So is their any chance of doing US shows or somewhere else? That's a long layoff if they don't go back out until Fall 2015.

Title: Re: Buenos Aires - February 2015 (& other spring 2015 updates)
Post by Gazza on Oct 11th, 2014 at 5:56pm
Yes. I think there was a good chance of a few US shows after South America.

I'd certainly think that if they dont play South America at all in the spring, the likelihood of more US shows then would be greater.

The bottom line is that they'll go where the money is.

And right now, Argentina (and by extension, South America) is certainly not in that category. The South American dates should have been announced by now - certainly this month anyway.

The talk of the tour being extended to late 2015 though provides a further dilemma re Keith's album. Seems there's been a band decision that he puts that on hold until the Stones' current spell of touring ends (especially as he'd naturally want to promote it with some appearances). Keith himself reckoned that would be summer 2015.

From a very reliable source: The Rolling Stones won't play in Argentina

This is very sad news, one of the best places to see the Stones all over the world is out of the tour Schedule

Fortunately other dates in South America remain the same

Good news for the rest of Latin America.

Gutted for the Argentinian fans. They're a great audience.

Hopefully there'll be a way for the Stones to play there before this period of touring ends.

Shit, they're coming to MY SHITHOLE TOWN? That's amazing. I guess Keith wasn't lying when he said he loved here and fuckin' cachaça. I don't see what foreigners see in such an unwieldy concoction. Its nothing but a better form of rum. Which still means it tastes like sweetened stale piss (if it's a "good" brand if such a thing exists) mixed with rubbing alcohol.

Having said that, with Mick Taylor as a guest or not, I saw them thrice already and AC/DC only twice. And AC/DC comes first - its their last tour. Unless God really exists and cures Malcolm, which is something that just won't happen.

Off the top of my head :

Summer 1975
Spring 2003
Fall 2014

Pretty much every time its been down to issues with currency or the fragile Latin American economies.

1975 really would have been quite groundbreaking. Not many British or American bands were going there back then.  Thats why the tour was called 'Tour of the Americas'

Some sixteen shows were scheduled from August 7-31 - four each in Mexico City (OK, Voodoo - I know that's 'North America'),  Rio, Sao Paulo and Caracas (actually I think Caracas may have been scheduled for five).  Argentina was a no-no in those days.

I think that was the only tour though where dates were actually confirmed. Not sure if they ever went on sale though - I dont think they did. Anyone know?

Most of these scrapped tour legs never got past the planning stages.

Title: Re: South America Tour updates, etc -

http://www.timeisonourside.com/chron1975.html

Interesting timeline :

August 2, 1975: The Rolling Stones announce they are cancelling what would have been their first-ever
concerts in Latin America (Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela).

August 4-6, 1975: The Rolling Stones perform in Louisville, Kentucky and, for the first time, Hampton,
    Virginia.

August 8, 1975: The Rolling Stones end their 1975 North American Tour with an added, extra concert
    in Buffalo, New York.

That doesnt sound right to me. Cancel the South American tour at five days notice and THEN add a couple of US dates a few days later including a stadium show in Buffalo?  Unlikely.

In fact, the only cancellation was in 1975. The other ones, never have been announced.
In Argentina a Stones concert feels like a very special event like no other band in the world. For that reason, many people travel to attend concerts around the world.
Anyway, we need to wait. I'm with my fingers crossed.

Huh?

Wembley Stadium opened in 1923, closed in 2000 and after being rebuilt, eventually opened in 2007.  The Stones last played the old stadium in 1999 and havent played in the new one yet.

Wembley Arena has been there for decades although I think they renovated the inside of it about 5-6 years ago.

I doubt they'll ever play Wembley Arena again. They used it for the dress rehearsals for their 50 and Counting London shows in November 2012, but its been superseded as the main indoor arena in London by the larger 02 Arena.

(Earls Court is almost as big as the 02 and a lot more central than both the other venues, but its not used much for concerts (crappy sightlines and acoustics) and is about to be demolished.

Time to record an album ... why not. I think the old schedule of Mick getting together with Keith for six weeks to write songs.. before heading into the studio to record them needs changed right now.

Mick coming in with his songs... Keith having his load and them working on them in a studio is also a bit tired at the moment. Time to mix it up ... change the pattern. They should get together and rent out a studio with Was and jam and see what they come up with. They could write some songs on the road and finish them after the leg of the SA tour... (<<If that happens).

Their writing pattern needs changed up a bit right now to keep it fresh and interesting... They should mix it up .. and see what they come up with. By the late fall of next year ..they could tour the states on a brand new album....which was made both on and off the road in a multitude of situations. Would be interesting.

Dream on.

Keith will probably use part of the time off to do whatever promotional work he needs for his new album. That may involve some live performances.

The gap in the Stones schedule would be to allow for that.  The fact that he's been active as a performer of late would bode well for the chances of Keith doing some shows.  Its something he does want to do.

I'm sure Mick has other things that he'll want to catch up on.

They'll be touring early next year again - and I would guess they'll play shows in Europe in the summer.  They wouldn't have a record out that fast even if they WERE to work on songs later this year.

Their writing pattern? What writing 'pattern' would that be? More than one album every decade?

What will they call this new record - "12 Songs You'll Never Hear Live" ?

Let's everyone make a serious effort to hit South America.  We looked like half-ass jerks the last timed they toured down there.  It's next year so you have plenty of time to save up.  No goddam excuses there.  If you are under court ordered travel restrictions, pm me.  I know a guy.  Let's do it.  Quite frankly, I'm disgusted with some of you who can't leave your own goddam backyard!  This isn't Lewis and goddam Clark.  We have planes with wings and cockpits and aeronautical stuff.

Oh dont get me wrong. I think the info is pretty reliable. I dont think those dates would be posted without good reason.

I'm sure they intend to play there on those dates. Hopefully the logistics will work out this time.

I was pretty surprised no one from that part of the world has posted much on it in recent weeks myself.

I'm not surprised the Agentinians didn't.  Britain is sending its number one musical valets down to take their money, romp with their women, piss goddam anywhere, and the world's most incompetent banana republic is no closer to the Falkand Islands than it was 30 years ago.

Its been pretty much confirmed (several times by Keith in recent weeks as it gave him a chance to release and promote his record) that they'll play South America in Feb-March.

I guess we've had too many false alarms before for people to get worked up about it before its actually confirmed.

More here of course : http://rocksoff.org/cgi-bin/messageboard/YaBB.pl?num=1407423920/75#75

I know of all the false alarms and all...I was hoping to see them in Costa Rica in November...

...but I was very impressed with IORRs Zip Code information and its accuracy prior to any official word and all...

Since this page for SA was updated just 2 weeks ago, it caught me by surprise...

Yes, I'm tired of such a big amount of rumours, however from a close source now seems that this will happen this time

Mexico is not for that date, probably in the next NA leg

Someone on here must have had some flight training along the way.

Or stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Hell, maybe we can get some cut-rate 727s well outside their expected lives, like US Air does, and maybe paint ROCKS OFF RULES YOU BASTARDS on the side.

Ok so a charter for 15 people from Dulles to Rio would be $268k.

Fuck that.

Expedia says, about $1k per person from Dulles to Rio + Friday 2/19-Monday 2/22 at a 4+ star hotel.

Now that is entirely possible.

Add $1000 for tickets and about $500 for food and drink.

Entirely possible.

Cuba!!
JULIÁN RUIZ
Actualizado 17/09/201512:52

According to this article, The Rolling Stones management wants to play in Cuba and the show is currently under negotiation steps

http://www.elmundo.es/cultura/2015/09/17/55fa81ce46163f10658b456e.html

They should play a a free concert in John Lennon Park...

THEY LOVE John Lennon there...a whole park in his memory with a horrible looking statue.

If you go thru Mexico. you can overnight and if you leave in less than 24 hrs, all your departure taxes are waived. The flights from Miami and New York are a rip off and you get no flexibility...as they are charters.

Rolling Stones may perform in Cuba in 2016

Cuba Debate | Thursday, 17 September 2015

The iconic band, The Rolling Stones, are in final negotiations to perform in Havana at the end of March 2016, at the Latin American Stadium, a facility with capacity for 55,000 people, according to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Keith Richards confirmed the negotiations with the Cubans. The guitarist of the Stones, celebrating the release of his third solo album, Crosseyed heart also said that Cuba has taken it seriously, following the opening of embassies in the United States and the Pope's upcoming visit to Havana.

Darryl Jones, who plays bass for the Stones, has influenced the decision to play in Cuba. Darryl and his partner Bernard Fowler played in Havana last February, as members of a group called The Dead Daisies.

The official announcement will be made when the Rolling Stones publish the dates and cities of his upcoming tour of South America. It seems that the Stones would begin the tour on February 3 at the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile. Follow three performances at the River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires. Another Centenario in Montevideo. And they want to continue with performances in Rio de Janeiro, So Paulo, Lima, Bogota, Mexico and finish probably in Havana on 20 or 21 March. No exact dates have been confirmed yet.

According to Keith Richards, during the following month, April, the Stones would go to Paris to record what would be the twenty-third album of the group, the first after the A Bigger Band of just ten years ago.

This article is based on a Cuba Debate article in Spanish.

Yes, right there! 7 November will play Pearl Jam in the same place and this past summer played Foo Fighters there too. Modern and great stadium, well connected and around 45 minutes from Buenos Aires City. Is smallest than River Plate (65.000 vs 53.000)

And of course, you are always welcome down here. We need to repeat that party again!

Ole Tour, that's cool! The dates are filled in pretty tight so any added shows (Cuba?) will have to be at the end. So I thought Cuba was strict because I may be brainwashed by media in thinking that communism doesn't allow any personal freedoms. I don't want to end up in jail.

NO translation needed here...they will have a stellar setlist ahead...

La gira América Latina Olé de los Rolling Stones logrará que Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts y Ronnie Wood hipnotizen a sus generaciones de fans con un set repleto de sus ya clásicos éxitos de los Stones como "Gimme Shelter", "(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction", "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Start Me Up" y "Miss You", así como joyas especiales de su catálogo extraordinario.

Curiously...the Colombian chart looks like an ominous coke spoon...

Lisa has confirmed she won't be on this leg of the tour due to scheduling conflicts

she seems to have quite a few gigs around that time and maybe it looks bad that she keeps cancelling them every time the Stones decide to go on the road at relatively short notice

Saying that, a South American tour in Feb-March 2016 has been pretty much an open secret for months

Title: Lisa Fischer will not be joining the Ole Tour.
Post by Bitch on Nov 8th, 2015 at 10:17am
According to Lisa's Twitter account, she said that she is heartbroken but that she will not be on the entire South American Ole tour. She has her own tour dates scheduled during this time period.

So we may have seen the last of Lisa with the Stones. I always liked her and I will miss her presence, although her voice has gotten weaker over the last few years so maybe it was time for her to go.

On the ZipCode tour, I thought her voice was either weaker or just not mic'd correctly (or intentionally low) during her solo/featured spot.
Its not an easy song to sing, that is certain...

She has recently played here in Durham and Raleigh a few times over the last year and a half...even hosted and performed at the premiere of her film here...always received good reviews...perhaps it is time for her to become her own and not just a featured solo of someone else's song...all the best to her of course.

Forget about WHO...WHAT can they replace GS with? What powerful gem is out there, untapped, and waiting to be brought out to the fans???

The obvious answer is Plundered My Soul

For you fans of milestones...2016 will mark:

Dirty Work...30th anniversary (edit)
Tattoo You....35th anniversary
Black and Blue 40th anniversary
Aftermath...50th anniversary

IORR reporting that the Stones have been offered to play a gig in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - which if they accept may take place on the date previously rumoured for the 2nd Mexico City show or the one in Havana.

I'd be surprised if those two shows don't take place, myself, but time will tell.

Not for the second show in Mexico, that's booked, but local promotor as always, sells the first show as the only one and then the second, in this way the sales are faster.

Makes more sense.  Maybe DomRep is an alternative option should Cuba fall through.

Wasnt surprised they didnt confirm that show alongside the other dates. No doubt theres a lot more red tape needed before that one can come off.

Check the "cheap" prices for ticket in Hispanic America, this means Latin America minus Brazil

He will suggest a fake ticket scam to lure Illegals as a way to deport them.

He'll try and claim success for it somehow.

So Argentina has the cheapest , sorry 'least extortionate' ticket prices then - presumably because even the Stones are aware that theyve an economic crisis. Seems to have worked. The three shows sold out.

And remarkably, Colombia is the most expensive.

Which would tie in with what a journo friend of mine told me when he said that when the hardest tickets in the US to secure an allocation from the Stones management were New York, LA (both no surprise) and, bewilderingly, .... Miami.  The reason for the latter one being the amount of interest coming from Colombia....

Can't begin to imagine why....  :smoking
