I listened to the 'new' Yellow Brick Road', which didnt really feature that much interesting stuff. I was struck by the DVD from the time of the recordings, and how boring EJ and all around him came off. there was no mystique, no magic; almost as if EJ, Bernie Taupin,, the band - all went out of their way to dispel any kind of notion of artistic involvement.
What else has been new on the platter? A group and album called "Baader Meinhof"; Beck's new album, Lupine Howl's "The Bar At The End Of The World", several of the albums by Orange Juice, Neneh Cherry's new album. A collection by a Dutch band from way back called the Outsiders. And America "Homecoming". Been also listening to a lot of King Crimson; and a band called the Novaks. Someone over here turned me on to them. |

OMG...totally forgot about David Johansson and his rendition of "We Gotta Get Outta This Place"... No, I was a huge Who Head all throughout HS...never seen them before...and having just seen The Clash a month earlier for 2 of the 3 nights at The Pier (Dr Pepper Music Festival) I had to go... It was my 4th/5th time seeing the Clash and my 1st/2nd out of 3 with The Who (Carrier Dome a month later or so was number 3). I saw The Clasjh again at School (Cut The Crap version) and Strummer various times and Big Audio Dynamite/ II MANY times...never seen Carbon/Silicon though. I have never seen Havana 3am either. |

Rebelution by Pitbull. I just rediscovered it!
I enjoy Pitbull’s music. But, his videos are ridiculous. I was like, “Wow! No one can be that horny!” It turns out, I was right. Pitbull has had a hard life! His mom came from Cuba by herself as a child during Operation Peter Pan. His father came during the 80’s on the Marielito boats. When his parents met, his mom was a topless dancer, and she already had 2 other children from 2 other men! He grew up separated from his older siblings. At one point, when his mom was strung out on drugs, he temporarily ended up in foster care. Later when he was 20, he reconnected with his father, who gave him advice as a friend, instead of a father. It was Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew that gave him his first opportunity. There was a misunderstanding and the first paycheck bounced. He rode his bike from 200th Street to 184th street to the bank in Miami, and the check had insufficient funds! He had to ride his bike all the way home, because he didn’t even have a quarter for a phone call! Eventually, the matter was cleared up and he got paid!
