And let me just say for the record:
I do not tire of watching and posting these setlists.
I do not care that they are more than predictable.
I know that is this likely the Farewell Tour of my Band.
I still get a tingle knowing they are on stage right now.
Naysayers be damned.

Have you seen a show in 2012-2013?
I don't mean listened to a boot or watched a video?
Have you seen a show since 06-07?
I have and loved it.
And if they return to the United States, I'll be "an idiot" and go to a show.

Had this discussion last night with some ardent Stones fans.
We've been to so many shows over the years, we're jaded.

These shows, especially in the Far East, are geared for "first timers" and they want to hear the warhorses.

I'd love for them to dig into their massive catalogue and give us diehards what we want. Ain't happening.

It is what it is.

Again, I'm thrilled that they are still a touring band after all these years.

Oh and BTW i didn´t like ABB tour either,,,licks tour barely likeable,,i think to me they sound too much like an adult rock band,,not the stones i fell in love with, but something happened after BTB tour.
I have nothing against 89-99 period.

They last played Asia in 2006. They played there previously in 2003. Aside from gigs like Glastonbury, there are few first timers at Stones shows anymore if the audiences ages are any yardstick. Especially at those prices. Anyone who is telling you otherwise is kidding themselves. And they have more than ten warhorses.

A greatest hits type show isnt unreasonable - but the same 10-12 'hits' at every show for the last decade? Pure laziness. They could pool that 10-12 from a list of 18-20 very well known 'classics', rotating one or two of them in and out of the set per night and no one would complain. Minor tinkering required to keep it interesting.

And a band of the Stones' greatness really shouldnt have to tailor a show in a way that they're someone's personal jukebox. After 52 years, theyve earned the right to play what the hell they like.

I cant grasp how someone can pay $1000 or so to see a band who have sold 250 million records, yet we're supposed to believe that these same people theyre aiming the show at only know about ten of their songs and either cant be bothered or cant afford to buy any of their albums.

I don't disagree with you.
All I'm saying is that despite all of this, I still get a charge out of following the setlist and posting pics that I find for the Board.
And should they return to the United States, I will fork out money to see them again.

Review: The Rolling Stones are on fire as they play to a star-studded crowd in Macau

Mick Jagger and co may be old but they still have what it takes, writes Dave Bannister

http://www.scmp.com/sites/default/files/styles/486x302/public/2014/03/09/stones1.jpg?

The Rolling Stones showed a sold-out, celebrity-studded crowd in Macau’s Cotai arena last night why they can still claim to be the world’s greatest rock’n’roll band – more than half a century after they started out playing blues covers in tiny clubs in London.

Mick Jagger’s moves may have slowed a little over the years but his trademark showmanship hasn’t and he had the crowd up on their feet from the opening riff of Jumping Jack Flash. The band immediately cut loose, serving notice to the crowd of more than 10,000 that they were in for a special night.

Among the stars who turned out were Chinese screen star Zhang Ziyi, Hollywood actor Stephen Baldwin, as well as mainland rocker Wang Feng and local musician Kenny Bee. VIPs who paid more than $15,000 for a ticket were treated to an up close and personal view of Jagger and co. from inside the Tongue Pit, a section of the mouth-shaped stage where they got a 360-degree view of the action.

https://www.scmp.com/sites/default/files/styles/486w/public/2014/03/09/stones2.jpg?

The Stones rolled into Macau after playing to 150,000 Japanese fans at three shows at the Tokyo Dome, the largest venue on their 2014 On Fire Tour. They took to the stage at Cotai before one of the smallest crowds and, while it would be hard to call a 10,000 arena intimate, Jagger seemed pumped by the smaller setting, working the crowd as if he was still leading a bar band.

For local fans this was the first time to see the Stones since their two performances at the controversial Hong Kong Harbourfest a decade ago. There was no controversy here though as they added to the growing roll-call of world famous acts putting Macau firmly on the global music map.

A jumbo high-definition screen was the backdrop to the simple black-and-steel stage, offering everyone a close-up view, perhaps a little too close for Ronnie Wood and guitarist Keith Richards. The lines etched into Richards’ face from his many years as the poster boy for rock’n’roll debauchery were deep enough to be seen from the back of the arena. Sir Mick, now a 70 year-old grandfather, is less frenetic on stage than during the Stones heyday, but he hasn’t lost that haughty chicken strut that brings his lyrics to life, and he must have covered a couple of miles on stage.

https://www.scmp.com/sites/default/files/styles/486w/public/2014/03/09/stones3.jpg?

The band was joined for three numbers by Mick Taylor, who played on some of the group’s most seminal albums including Exile on Main Street. Taylor showed why he is considered by many to be the Stones best guitarist with his turn on a 10-minute version of Midnight Rambler, as Jagger played the harmonica.

Songs like Honky Tonk Woman and Brown Sugar retained their freshness and energy even though they were released more than 40 years ago at a time when the Vietnam War was still raging. One of the surprises of the evening was a version of Get Off of My Cloud, chosen in a vote by fans on the band’s website and Facebook page. One unfortunate moment after the tragic events of the weekend was the video accompanying Gloom and Doom, which showed an animated jetliner crashing.

Time hasn’t been quite as kind to the band as to their best music. But after many public fallouts between the bandmates over the years, it’s testimony to their spirit of rock’n’roll that can still come together and deliver the goods. Fittingly, the band ended with Satisfaction.

Gotta agree.

I realize I am paying a lot of money for the same ol' set list plus or minus a few nuggets here and there.

But the energy of them live -- even if a little slowed -- simply cannot be ignored.  Their shows are worth every penny in my book.

LJ and I will let you know how the next tour is...

I think a simple solution or comprimise would be to play a few of the songs from the Some Girls and Exile reissues...playing new stuff from old albums while promoting the reissues etc...

Imagine Tallahassee Lassie or Dancing In the Light, Plundered or No Spare Parts??? I think I would get more of a thrill with those than even Silver Train...Imagine THAT vote...if they put up 3 of the reissued songs on that list...THAT would be exciting...even if Chuck and/or Mick has final say in the setlist of the night

If I didnt still enjoy doing that too, I wouldnt be here. More power to you. :-) I'm hugely grateful for all your help.

Doesnt alter the fact that I think that creatively they're absolutely phoning it in - even though I very much enjoyed the two shows I saw in 2012-13. In fact, they were better than I dared hope they'd be capable of at this stage.

I still think the top prices at these shows are about three times higher than what they're worth, though. There's no excuse in the world that justifies price hikes per tour which in  terms of inflation would outstrip that of a war-torn African country. That aspect of it I find genuinely insulting (loyalty is a two-way street) - and is much more of an issue than the content of the shows.  The 'lets just be glad theyre still playing' argument doesn't hold a lot of water when they're doing their best to ensure that many of us who ARE 'still glad they're playing' are either being priced out of the shows or made to feel like we're actually an inconvenient nuisance there to be exploited because we happen to like more than a few songs in their back catalogue.

Fandom comes in different guises. I'd never rubbish anyone who has no qualms at all about shelling out large amounts of cash to see a show because its obviously something that means a hell of a lot to them, personally. Similarly, I can totally understand the feelings of many long-time fans who have reached the point where their attitude is 'they're taking the piss'.  I find myself somewhere in the middle. Still love the music and enjoy the shows I see, but am at the stage where whilst I'd LIKE to see more shows, its not going to kill me if I dont.

Last June in Chicago, they were as good as I remember them being on Licks tour, which was pretty good, I thought.  I remember focusing in on Jagger during HTM, after somewhat of a lull, and you could just see the commitment in his expression.  Determined throughout the show to deliver the goods, and he did, driving the band along.  Memories well worth whatever the hell long forgotten $$$ (green) I spent.

I appreciate the set lists being put up but I only check them for one reason and one reason only now: to see how many songs Mick Taylor played on. Ronnie Wood did an interview with Rolling Stone during Voodoo Lounge and said:

"What has been the best show so far?
The second show in Las Vegas. Those people paid so much money, so I was expecting, like [yawns]. Those $300 people were absolute maniacs."

What a long time ago that seems where $300 was paying "so much." If you factor in inflation, that $300 comes to about $475 today. Considering the prices a nose bleed ticket costs today, let alone a premium ticket, you would expect a little more variety in the set lists and steak and shrimp during Keith's set.

yes, keith should also play, the worst, thief in the night and dust of sleep tonight, rockers can be the ones his doing now. Also
YGMR should be replaced with sad sad sad,and even include saint of me and out of control,,and even all about you back in the set.
And why don´t they play street fighting man? its a warhorse but less played than obvious satisfaction

Certainly hope the set list changes for Oz. I wont be happy if I have to hear bloody YGMR again. Or Angie for that matter. STM with Taylor would give us all tingles.

Three photos from Bjornulf Vic, who gave the show a stellar review, btw.

Has he ever not given a stellar review? That's a serious question, btw.

Separately, thanks for the effort with the updates and photos LJ, I do enjoy keeping up on the latest on the Stones even if I can't get on board with a lot of their decisions.

That said, it's not like anyone who's followed them on this tour, or since the 90's even, would suddenly expect a change in their modus operandi.

And I applaud your genuine enthusiasm with all sincerity. I, too, got a little a choked up as the last notes of Satisfaction faded out in Toronto last year.

Have the Rolling Stones ever dramatically changed their setlist on any tour of their career??

What you see folks, is what you're going to get. The same baloney sandwich just in a different country.

Licks tour. They had a different stage show and setlist for theatres, arenas and stadiums with a reasonable amount of variation within each.

It showed they could pull it off if they wanted to. Since then, they just havent wanted to.

Pleasantly surprised with this video. GS has not really done it for me on this tour but for a couple of minutes on this version things are sounding pretty tasty. From about 1:00 to 3:00 when Lisa comes in, which includes a nice little solo from Keith.

As someone on the Up With People site mentioned, Here's Mick Taylor playing Rhythm guitar and doing Backing Vocals. Wow, MT singing on stage (on a song done years after he left the band)!. Go figure. Keith was worrying me with guitar-as-a-prop thing when he was singing but again, he pulls off a couple of tasty solos here. Surprisingly fluid for his old, arthritic fingers.
Slipping Away.
