this is someone I'm actually familiar with.

He's the guy who wrote and recorded "Battle without Honor or Humanity" which was the brilliant, iconic instrumental used in Tarantino's "Kill Bill Vol. 1"

Considering what was rehearsed and the fact that it's the only stop on the tour that had multiple nights, the lack of variety and depth of song choices in Tokyo is pretty underwhelming.

No doubt the show was enjoyable for most people who went just one night, but nothing I've seen, read or heard so far is coming close to enticing me to get on a plane and travel to see any shows this summer.

Dont think so, in all honesty. Last year was pretty hectic and I figured that there werent going to be many concert trips (ie ones that involved flights and hotels) this year so I could take the opportunity to prioritise other things.

If they played an Irish show, I'd almost certainly go, but I wont be flying overseas. If there's a date in England its a slim possibility depending on the venue and prices. Stadiums dont appeal to me and paying £200-300 for a ticket is a non starter, especially to see 19-20 songs when the attraction is whether they MIGHT play one deep cut like 'Silver Train' that I havent heard before. I'm pleased that they appear to be playing well, but its just not something I've any desire to throw a lot of money at.

It is a great pic but Ronnie and Mick T have always had a great relationship- at least from the outside looking in. I don't know how much the family title applies to the others though. The past that these two have has always been good.

Dear Old-hat Rolling Stones:

Not exactly "On Fire" in Japan, are we?  Why can't you mix up the list with stuff you've already rehearsed, like Silver Train and Till the Next Goodbye?  Why not essay something truly impressive, like Time Waits for No One?  It would help your image if you did these things unapologetically, without hemming and hawing about the "unfamiliarity" of the songs in the spoken intros.

Your Fan Forever,
Dave

PS: Time waits for no one, millionaire motherfuckers. Satisfaction, somebody said.  Maybe you feel we're easy to please - always at your feet when we're not at your throat, as somebody else said.

I was just thinking God Bless em. Looks like they are having a great time. Armchair quarterbacking is bullshit. Reports from those at the shows are stellar. So let's enjoy them while while we still have them.

Quoting a couple of posts I read elsewhere:

"Perhaps it is little difficult to get excited from thousands kilometers away, not much surprises 'on paper' (set lists) and there is not much material circulating to make judgments, but from the base of the reports by the people who actually were there, it seemingly was a very strong, and even touching concert, especially Jagger sounded like giving all of himself to the probably last Japanese concert of theirs. Sounded like a special night."

Another:

"Tokyo 3 was absolutely fantastic show. Mick had so much energy it was like he couldn't get it all out. They didn't want to stop playing!!! My god, the exchange between him and the audience was so strong. I'm the only one who saw that???
What's the point of endless set list talks while they have just performed their last gig in Japan, and did an incredible job.
From Brussels Affair to Tokyo 3 I have seen them so many times but Tokyo 3 was really special."

And lastly (this one puts the lump in my throat):

"People!!!

Tokyo 3 was the Stones saying bye bye to Japan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Forever!!!
The audience knew it, the Stones knew it. There was a something special in the air!!! Look at Mick on Brown Sugar!!! He cant get enough of it......"

its an excuse not to mix up a bit,its not their age,its just they are not willing to do so.

a) modern people are so stupid that even with internet access 24hours a day you don´t "find" anything else than satisfaction or
start me up.

b) band has made allmost 500 songs, and this is what they come up?  look what they did in 1995-2003 period..great set lists and songs people haven´t heard in decades,,,like not fade away.

The first show of Voodoo Lounge, which I was at, had this as a set list and it was absolutely dynamite. Seven songs from the new album and three ballads in a row!!!!! By the way every one loved the show. This type of set list will never ever happen again:

4. Live with Me

5. You Got Me Rocking

6. Rocks Off

7. Sparks Will Fly

8. Shattered

9. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

10. Beast of Burden

11. Memory Motel

12. Out of Tears

13. All Down the Line

14. Hot Stuff

15. I Can't Get Next to You

16. Brand New Car

17. Honky Tonk Women

18. Before They Make Me Run

19. The Worst

20. Love Is Strong

21. Monkey Man

22. I Go Wild

23. Start Me Up

24. It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It)

25. Street Fighting Man

26. Brown Sugar

Encore:

27. Jumpin' Jack Flash

Yes it's easy to armchair QB from the other side of the planet and I'm sure the show was good. But imagine if they just applied some of that energy into more songs. This is the last tour. Look back fondly on you catalog. By comparison, look at what Springsteen has done:
Since the Wrecking Ball LP was released in March of 2012, Bruce has played 3,831 songs live. That’s approx two weeks of live music.

I'm armchair-quarterbacking from listening to the ROIO, which is hardly worth the hard drive space.

If JJF on March 6 sounded like that in any other year, people would be clamoring for a speed/pitch-corrected torrent.

Get on the stick, willya, Stones?  The little I heard of Dubai held more promise.  I'm thinking you were better at Altamont than in Japan.  I'm not sure you've been great since Glastonbury, where you were, indisputably, superlative.  But lately, to rights somebody ought to smash you with his guitar and holler, Get off my stage, fuckers.

I amended my previous post above this one to be more exact, which at this time means more acerbic
