I wish my Stones brothers and sisters a fantastic night. I am glad to know a few of you personally. Much love to Lady Jane and Got To Roll Me. I hope to dance with you beautiful souls in the near future.

Tonight I am celebrating a life long love for the Rolling Stones. There has been nothing in my life that equals the joy their music brings to me. Their writing and performing has touched me in ways only other super fans can relate to. The Rolling Stones are not just a band for me. They are a critical component to my life. Their music is with me through good and bad. And tonight I shall me dancing and drinking in their honor. I love their music so so much.

Much love to you all who might feel the same way.

Steel Wheels.

Great show but various intruments dropped in and out. Hard to hear Charlie's toms. Gaga went on and on but not as bad as i feared. Rambler was awesome but i hate the bit they've cut out of it to trim it by a few minutes. Keith rocked all night.

And i saw the monkey drummers!!

Absolutely. I've loved the extra power the guest guitarists have brought to these shows.

Shows next year with three full time guitarists? Why the fuck not!!!

And look how much dancing Taylor is doing. It'll save Jagger from running about as much.

Wow.
Hard to find words.
I didn't think they had it in them to ever get to this level.
I have to absorb this a bit more.

We had some "Virgins" in the room who were mesmerized.
So sweet to watch Nanky and his 19 year old jamming out to "Dad's" band.

Tears were flowing, especially during Wild Horses, YCAGWYW and the final bow.
Mick T in the middle!!

They must do more shows.
I think they will; I've never seen them look so damned happy.

Undeniably the greatest Rock N Roll band of all time.

What a wonderful night!!!!

Prolly just my imagination. Just seemed like Keith looked at him briefly and wouldn't shake hands. But whatever. I know I'm reading too much into it. But overall fun stuff. Thought they started out a bit slow. Though I did like WH and Dead Flowers as the fan pic. Liked Keith's set a lot. Don't remember Ronnie playing steel guitar on that before. Bruce was big fun. Coming off a recent 3 show Bruce run. Then seeing him play with the Stones? Thank you Jeebus, thank you lawd. :willya........They really seemed to be playing well together by the end of the show. Shaking up the setlist may not lead to the best performances. Taylor was great on MR. Nice touch to include him on the final bow. They should of acknowledged Brian in some way though. But well worth $50. :keithpunky

Didn't see the PPV, SCL, but Keith is obviously not a very generous player, a bit arrogant (to say the least). If he did slight Springsteen, that's his problem. And as a major Bruce fan, I'm sure you know what I mean.

A mistake to drop I Wanna Be Your Man and begin with a midtempo number - looks like you're old.  No point to Mick's spiv costume without IWBYM.

Would have preferred Around and Around to Dead Flowers.

Despite Mick's protest, "Who Do You Love " was played with Bo Diddley on a past PPV.  Would have rather had a different cover, like Mona.

Missed Jeff Beck.

It sounded like there was uncredited, off-screen guitar help in Before They Make Me Run.

Should have brought Mick Taylor back for YCAGWYW.

Doom and Gloom and One Shot came off all right.

Midnight Rambler great.  YCAGWYW swell.

Miss You and Sympathy better than other performances this tour.

Minimum amount of annoying audience shots.

Mick wore a lot of black.

Gimme Shelter made Lady Gaga lose her breath.

Yeah. I don't understand the trying to down-play or write Brian out of the Stones' history, even more so than they tried to do in the 90's and on with Bill.

Dude may have been an asshole (who in the band wasn't/isn't, 'cept maybe Charlie), but it's about the music, and should be that way for the fans AND the band.

And there are some folk who - not unreasonably- view the Jones period of '62-'67 era as the Stones most creative, engaging and exciting.

I wish they had hit their old catalog harder in this set of shows, busting out Tell Me and Mona, giving Around and Around a permanent slot.

Even Judy Garland knew that anniversaries are for old songs.

The worst Stones PPV ever
The worst audience ever
The worst Gimme Shelter ever,so awful that I change the channel,so awful I prefer Timberlake's Miss You
The worst Tumbling Dice ever,Springsteen did rehearsals for that crap?
The highlight and the only fucking good song was Midnight Rambler, awesome!!! Taylor was on fire,it was kind of funny at the end of the song while he was in the slide he seemed to be having such a good time that he never wanted to finish it.

For what I've seen the previous shows were much better than this for a PPV broadcast. What an average/lame concert for 50 years. If they touring next year they need to play in smaller places with short setlists, maybe two-three warhorses at least.I love this band but the age,the lack of activity as a group (no matter if it's Keith fault or not) and not taking risks having such and incredible and extense catalogue are killing the posibility of a great goodbye tour.

I fucking hate Gaga!!!!

I like that Lady Gaga went for it, but she looked like a headless chicken. If there anyone needs proof about who is the real deal and who is pretty much a media creation, then watching Mick and her proves it. The bits towards the end where they improvised the falsetto, she couldn't keep up with him melodically. At one point, I was hoping Lisa would walk over, push her off stage, and take over.

Springsteen doing "Tumbling Dice". Great choice. He obviously held back quite a bit, didn't attempt to grandstand (which is his nature, and in the best way), and more importantly, was clearly loving every second of it, like the rock n' roll fan-boy he still is. Plus, his brief lead was great; dude ALWAYS knows what he's doing, what the vibe is, when to push, when to pull, etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9fPuU9BffY

On another note: has Keith enjoyed these gigs at all? I understand time's caught up with him and he's concentrating really hard (and playing great), but he seems kind of nonplussed about everything...

I love this new Keith Richards. He stands in one place and focuses on playing his guitar. The results are stellar. When he launched into the riffs in Honkey Tonk, Start Me Up and One More Shot, it was pure magic. Loud open G riffs in your face! I had a great time dancing and singing and drinking the night away.

Lady Gaga was terrible. She couldn't sing the song. She couldn't keep up with the Rolling Stones. She was laugh-out-loud bad and Gimme Shelter was ruined for me. She did not belong on stage.  The Black Keys had no business being up there either. The guitarist lacked emotion and soul. His playing was cold and sterile, not to mention boring. The song was performed in 97 with Bo Diddley but Mick seemed to forget that.

Overall the PPV show was great. 42 inch plasma screen with amps and speakers pumping Stones all night.

Bring on the 2013 tour. I'm ready to go broke.

I had to see it with me own eyes -- Keith is amazing -- as Steel Wheels sais -- he's focused!

And Ronald -- tearing it up.

A whole lot of new guitars too, eh?

What was Ronnie plating - that yeller thang?
I also don't remember Keith playing that blonde Tele with the rosewood fingerboard -- '67?

Bodies strewn all around the house this morning -- we stayed up and watched the encore show til 4am.

Yeah, Keith is really concentrating and playing really great. But he could show it a little more (he, too, is a great PERFOMER, after all).

Sure, he's older and the moves don't come as naturally as they used to, and after all - it's really about the music, the SOUND.
But (by way of example, and - in my opinion) look at Mick Jones from the Clash, Big Audio Dynamite, Carbon/Silicon. Dude was at least as great a mover as Richards in his prime, is second to none (meaning Richards) in playing pure rock n' roll guitar, writing and arranging timeless songs, etc.
Jones - all balding and wearing sharp suits on stage - looks like a London banker or something. And the guy CLEARLY loves every moment of playing and being onstage, with whatever band or guest spot he does (and the guy plays almost constantly).
He should have been an obvious choice for the London shows. Wonder if his name came up, and if so, Richards nixed it. Knowing Jones is his only - and obvious - competion.

SW, IT WAS 1994 PPV THAT THEY DID 'WHO DO YOU LOVE' W/BO.
AND I WILL SAY THAT KEITH HAS MADE A REMARKABLE COMEBACK TO AN AVERAGE GUITAR LEVEL..HE IS VERY FOCUSED AND I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HEARD THE CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN THE GLIMMERS THAT BROUGHT THIS ON.

Simply stunning as the boys showed the world they are still clearly #1........The song resonating in my nead funny enough is One More Shot. Keith's intro was to die for on that one. Guests were ok except of course the out of shape stripper. Taylor brought the house down and including him in the final bow...in the center gives me a sense that he will be involved more in the future. Nice touch.

Mick said the piece early on - between 'Gimme Shelter' and 'Wild Horses'

I was told a while back that Jones' band - Justice Tonight - were sounded out as possible openers for shows next year. Not sure if anything has come from it, though.

Keith's most definitely enjoying himself. Just focussing more on playing then posing - and all the better for it.

The Bruce collaboration was fun even if technically it could have been better. He's played about 90 3-hour plus shows this year and at times it sounded like it - just like at times the Stones sound like they've played five shows in five years. Plus none of the guest acts got major rehearsal time. But it all turned out well enough, I thought.

I watched the Lady Gaga appearance. You know what? I don't think it was half-bad, to be honest. Maybe she didn't have the same vocal chops as Lisa or whomever, but she went for it, and you have to credit that. And the improvised bit at the end there was actually quite refreshing - taking the boys out of the same old arrangement drudgery and doing something slightly different, for a change.

I have to wonder - is the hate directed at Gaga and others simply the product of some fans being too old and stubborn to appreciate someone or something new? I don't pretend to be a huge Lady Gaga fan myself, but she was invited up on to that stage, and for the sheer act of giving herself over to the performance, I give my respect. I mean, let's see YOU get up there and sing Gimme Shelter.

Remember the deal about when the Stones were in NYC recording 'Dirty Work', and Patti Scialfa came in to do some vocals, and Bruce was with her (even though he was still technically married to Julianne Moore at the time), and Keith said, I think in a 'Playboy' magazine interview, that he thought Bruce was a great guy, but "...naughty, naughty..." (I remember that bit).
So yeah, clearly they know each other, and I think you're right - there's probably a level of respect (well, Bruce makes no qualms about who gets him excited, be it the Beatles, Stones, Clash, whoever!).

Yes....admittedly as it was on at 2.30 am here and Mrs Gazza was asleep I didnt have it very loud but the guitars were too low for the first few songs.

I actually feared the worst before the show because the sound on the 'fan video' that preceded it was shocking.

The only, and I'll emphasize, only thing in the Bruce performance is......how many times he was glued to the teleprompter for the words.  Had several people at my house to watch this & it was simultaneously said, ya think Bruce would do his homework on the lyrics?  Song's been out since '72, it struck me odd as well.  Maybe the split of duet was messed up....beyond that, it was rollicking & rocking, probably the loosest of all the duets in the night.......

Yeah if you're not an old black guy. Keith does'nt think much of you. :D

Kinda true, man!
But here's another angle of TD/Bruce, and Keith seems a lot friendlier to Bruce (I think they might be kinda/sorta buddies, actually. Maybe through the good offices of Steve Van Zandt). Who knows. But a fine performance, all things considered, I'd say.

Backstage in LA in 1994 on the Stones' Voodoo Lounge tour. I think one of these shots ended up in the Stones tour program from around that time.

Great, great pics! Thanks for the link, Gazza! I change my mind - yeah Keef and Bruce do seem to be groovin' joyously (never mind that Ronnie Wood bloke - miserable git that he always is!).

And yeah Phillips! Phillips! Sorry, had a "red headed woman" on me mind! (Patti? Florence? the girl at the liquor store? the list is endless!).

Roger that, Android. Yup, I think GaGa did fine, better perhaps than Mary J. And she looks great (for those who like looking at talented, pretty young women).
But not as great as Florence: in the words of WaitingOnaFriend:
"Oh little Flo,
How I love you so,
Especially in your nightie.
When the moonlight flits,
Across your tits,
Oh jesus christ almighty".

Well, my crazy dysfunctional Rolling Stones family....that's it for 2012.
This was a great show last night. After seeing the Stones six times in about 3 weeks (including the short 12-12-12 gig) I am on cloud 9.

Here are about a zillion pics from last night. I couldn't edit more out because it's the end of the line (for now) and each one is a great memory.

Long live the Rolling Stones.

It's pretty far down on the list of things to enthuse over, but as a bass player I was blown away by the batch of basses Darryl brought to bear last night. I saw a  Gretsch hollow-body, a Hofner (Club bass I think), and a red Fender Mustang with racing stripes, besides the Jazz basses he usually plays. Impressive!

I was conscious of Darryl overplaying a bit last night, but that's nit-picking.

I agree with COM too.
I loved all the guests.
They accepted the invitation and gave it their best.
You could read it on their faces; they were thrilled and honored to be onstage with The Rolling Stones.
I loved seeing Gaga rock out in the Pit after her performance.

What a glorious night.

As I posted on Facebook, last night I got to see my Band again and although I wasn't in the arena, I was fortunate to watch them on a 72" HD TV (better than standing in the Pit imho) in a room lit only with candles and Christmas lights; surrounded by special friends. Mick Jagger IS the 8th wonder of the world and it was great to watch the faces of those who hadn't seen them "live" before.

The Stones delivered and made me so proud. If I never get the chance to see them perform live again, I will be okay. Because you can't always get what you want, but if you try, sometimes, you get what you need. I'm home now but I feel like I'm still in a dream. A very good dream.

iwatched it again when it was replayed last night.

Guitars were way down the 1st couple of songs. Darryl's bass way out in front. The dude can play!
Guests were ok, but seemed to stop the flow of the show.
i lost count how many times Jagger said "are you feeling good?" He mentioned about being Letterman with so many guests, but geez, i have never heard him talk so much. it was like a commentary track!! he was in unreal form. Fucking supernatural!
I briefly watched it in 3d, and it was great. But my glasses needed charging. Its on in Oz again xmas day, so i'll watch it in 3d to piss my dad off and make him go home so i can drink more beer.
Some dude was right next to the rear left channel. I could clearly hear him sing out of tune/time & then say "Where the hell did he go?" PRobably just some monkey in the tongue pit waiting for his pal to bring him a beer.
So many highlights. Monkey drummers - They should have done Monkey Man & had all the masked people onstage. Er, mayber not! lol
Taylor was brilliant. Though the part they trimmed from Rambler is my fave part! Never mind. His feet actually left the ground!!!!!!!!
Apart from Mick & Keith doing that annoying knuckle punch during intros, Jagger went no where near Keith all night. I was hoping during Dead Flowers they would share a mic. But not even a glance all night.
I loved seeing camera men & backstage people on the stage. Had a nostalgic quality to it.
Ronnie going up to remind Mick to say something and Mick's school teacher mode took over and shued him away.
No wang dang Watts! No Wembley whammer. Just "come down the front & look at the girls".
I swear i saw a Collingwood footy jumper in the pit. I 100% saw a Brazillian the real football jumper. If so, Mobbsy would be pleased.
Over zealous mixing of sympathy every time the guitars came in, but Geebuz, it sounded mean!!
This band just might have a future.

Bloody Collingwood!

Loved the show..was in section 16 row 13 which is on the rail rite behind lisa and bernard who showed us some love as we screamed for them all night. could watch john mayer and lady gaga go back and forth from pit to backstage along with robert  deniro and others. was by box office before show and no tix for sale as i knew section 16 had afew seats to rite of me that had like 3 rows with 3 seats each in them and they were up for sale day before...was going to upgrade if no one took them but they filled at showtime.

any how first time side stage and made sure to wear bright orange shirt with 50th stones shirt under for the cameras and low and behold during gimme shelter mick comes over and they are like 6 frames where it shows me behind him going into pocket for iphone to snap a shot/video. 1 thing i hate about PPV is that they need house lights most of the time depending on shot they are trying for which screws up picture taking. originally was going to record it as have 64 gbs on iPhone 5 and pretty much cleared it out for show...then i realized they will sell a dvd or i can download as already saw it's up at pirates bay.

saw many old friends scattered through crown and was next to a few shidoob's in my row. side stage always looked like fun as i always went out and paid for up front thought i woulld try something different and glad i was. having seen much of what goues on on stage inbetween songs over the years tonight mick seemed to be going for tissues before and after each song along with spitting so must assume fighting a cold... following L'wren on instagram has been fun as her behind the scene pics are very telling...mick loves altoids and mentos :) she is a good follow if anyone isn't and is interested in her pictures as she hash tags a lot and seems to be the digital girl on this go round.

won't even bother saying much about songs as i loved all off then even the few that clearly started or ended as train wreck.... and charlie's drums were louder then i ever heard sitting where we were. I have never been on ronnies side so that too was a new experience. very strange to see keith as i felt he was putting more in to his playing then ever before as opposed to hamming it up on stage. great he got the welcome he did for his set.... paying homage to him as out of all the band he is showing all the years more than the others which isn't a bad thing its a normal progression of life.

Did see mr lawyer and son who has grown since last i saw them both in boston years back.... they were going in VIP entrance. didn't go to pre parties as i spent my time soaking it all in and recording just in case it is "THE LAST TIME" which i seriously doubt. but don't see them touring may be few night stops in the big cities but doubt a large scale tour.... love the stripped down stage look very No Security like which is a great thing they don't need any props at this point just the video screen.

Bernard came out before show to take pics by box office with a bunch of guys from Brazil he was nice taking about 10 pics with the group but said no as he walkied away to few other fans that after the 10 minutes went by realized who he was.  it was very nice of him to take care of the original bunch as it was clearly setup.

lastly the prices of merch is insane at shows!!!! my kids got me official merch at kohls back in November for my birthday for under $20 a tshirts and same ones were $45 at stands.... oh and shidoob to my left why bother going to a concert if you get so drunk you go to get beer or bathroom every 10 minutes you make your row mates pissed off!

Rolling Stones Cap Anniversary Tour With an All-Star Blowout in Newark
Lady Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, the Black Keys and John Mayer join the band for final show

Mick Jagger has sung the words "This could be the last time" hundreds of times – yet the line had a special resonance tonight. The Rolling Stones’ December 15th show in Newark, New Jersey was the final gig of their 50th anniversary tour, their first live performances in five years. And with no shows scheduled for 2013, many fans had to be wondering if tonight meant it’s all over now.

But whatever the future holds for the World’s Greatest Rock & Roll Band, they blew it out tonight, rampaging from classic to classic in true Stones fashion – through the past, darkly. The Stones treated this show as a lavish celebration loaded with special guests, from Lady Gaga torching up "Gimme Shelter" to Bruce Springsteen strapping on a guitar for "Tumbling Dice."

Yet all eyes were on Jagger, a cosmic blur of hips and ribs and lips, attacking each song with an unbelievably ruthless rocks-off energy, whether he was shimmying through "Honky Tonk Women" or strumming his guitar for "Dead Flowers," in its first appearance of the tour. (It was a fan selection, as voted via the band’s new smartphone app.) For most of the show, he wiggled in the same skintight outfit he wore on the Stones’ 1969 tour: black drainpipe trousers, clingy long-sleeve T-shirt, Cuban-heel boots. In his case, actually, it might have been the *exact* same outfit – no doubt the old one still fits. (How does this man do it? Zumba? Tantric Pilates? Or just generally getting his ya-ya’s out?)

Inside the Rolling Stones' Reunion

Keith Richards played heroic amounts of guitar all night, especially in "Gimme Shelter" and "It’s Only Rock & Roll," and though he mostly glowered over his guitar at the back of the stage, he took the mike to rasp through a Mick-free interlude of "Before They Make Me Run" and "Happy." Ron Wood looked gratifyingly hale, dancing around and resuming his mischievous-schoolboy role, while Charlie Watts drummed with his unflappable gravitas.

The brisk pace of the show didn’t leave much room for ballads or idle chit-chat. Mick whisked the guests on and off the stage so fast that at one point he joked that he felt like David Letterman. Lady Gaga did a spectacularly soulful duet on "Gimme Shelter," teetering in a striped jumpsuit and platform heels that could have come straight from the inner sleeve of Tattoo You. The Black Keys sat in for Bo Diddley’s "Who Do You Love," while the Freddie King tribute "Going Down" became a metallic blues jam featuring Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer, who played extended solos with Wood and Richards. (The Stones resisted the urge to follow up the Mayer cameo by bringing on Taylor Swift to sing "Wild Horses." Now that would have been a moment.)

Jagger told the crowd that some of the Stones’ guests had flown thousands of miles to be there in New Jersey: "They’ve flown from Moscow and Los Angeles and Saskatoon and God knows where else." Then he added, "Our next guest, he just had to walk here.” And with that, Bruce Springsteen came on for "Tumbling Dice," the undisputed highlight of the night. Springsteen traded verses with Jagger while playing guitar, grinning broadly, busting out his Otis Redding moves as he grunted "You got-ta roll me!" over and over.

For guitar freaks, another highlight had to be the showcase for Mick Taylor, who played with the Stones in the Sticky Fingers/Exile on Main Street years between Brian Jones and Ron Wood. All three guitarists jammed on "Midnight Rambler," as Jagger honked along on harmonica. Even as the Stones stretched the song way past the ten-minute mark, luxuriating in all the sex-and-doom longeurs, there was still a restless twitch in the music. Like the rest of the show, it was a moment that seemed to encapsulate the band’s whole history.

But even on a momentous occasion like this, it wouldn’t be the Rolling Stones’ style to get sentimental. And true to form, they stuck to their hardass sense of menace. Five of the first six songs they played touched explicitly on the theme of death, and the one that didn’t – the show-opening "Get Off Of My Cloud" – was the ultimate Stones ode to flipping off the human race and zoning out into your own private dream-world. As always, the Stones didn’t offer any easy comfort tonight – just mean guitars, high energy, and plenty of satanic majesty.

"Get Off Of My Cloud"
"The Last Time"
"It's Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It)"

Typical Ronnie Wood though.... he waits to what is supposedly the last Stones show ever to finally play like he used to in The Faces.

Just checking in to read the comments and to compliment SV on the pics!

I was sitting on the other side, section 11 in one of the small lower rows for the second show.
Right, early on in the day, the box office said they had no seats...or none I would want, anyway.

I thought Mick and Keith had a little bit of interaction, would have liked more.  At one point, Mick,
Keith and Ronnie all went out to the end of the tongue together.  Keith did so appreciate the crowd
reaction, very much, both nights in Newark, the second had the looooong ovation.  During the first
Newark show, when he came to the front of the stage during a number, he seemed so happy and
grateful to be there.

Anyway, I think there will be more shows next year, don't know if I can do the travel and expense of
the tickets.  But, you know how that feeling can come and then go.

Hungercity now have a BLU-RAY version of the broadcast available for download.

It's over 37GB so will probably take a few days to complete - but on the bright side, it's being offered as a 'free leech' , so it wont harm your share ratio :

Also includes the 12-12-12 performance from MSG as bonus material.
