Ronnie Wood: Rolling Stones to go into studio soon
By MESFIN FEKADU, Associated Press – 34 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP) — Ronnie Wood says the Rolling Stones will meet in a recording studio later this month "to just throw some ideas around."

The guitarist for the legendary rock group said Monday that he and the band just want "to get the feel again."

He also added that the Rolling Stones 50th anniversary is like training for something big.

"It's like working out for the Olympics or something," Wood said. "You've got to go into training. So we're going to go into training."

Wood made the comments Monday in an interview following a press conference for his exhibition, "Faces, Time and Places," which features his own paintings. It includes pieces of him and his band mates, as well as Muhammad Ali and Al Pacino.

Wood, who said he first started painting at age 3, enjoys doing it because it's a reflection of his own ideas, unlike music, which he calls "a group effort."

The exhibit launched Monday and will close June 30.

Wood's week will get busier when he is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday as a member of The Faces, along with Rod Stewart. It will be the second induction for the 64-year-old Wood. The Rolling Stones were inducted in 1989.

He'll also perform a solo show at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, N.J., on April 21. When asked what fans should expect, he said: "Lots of surprises because I'm going to surprise myself. I don't know what the hell is coming next. The whole set list is going to be made up. I'm making it up every day now."

Wood says he would love go on a solo tour "if I had enough time, but I have too many commitments."

He also talked about possibly recording another solo album.

"Lots of people don't know I've made seven, 'cause most of my albums escape; they're not released," he said, laughing. "Keith (Richards) says they all skyrocket to oblivion."

Good to see that it appears that Keith's comments last month about recording together in the coming weeks appear to be more than just hot air.

I wouldn't miss Woodies gig if I was anywhere near AC...  here's hoping they gave us a smoke screen, and might be hiding 2012 tour plans, since this day and age, everything is out there... all secrecy and no privacy...

Still not to "officially" record a new album, just "ideas", but it's getting warmer. I for one am happy that it doesn't look like it's going to be a rebranded Mick solo album like ABB with Charlie drumming, some participation from Keith and a cameo by Ronnie...

Does this mean the they are going to tour in 2012? Or does it mean that they are going to tour in 2013 behind a new album, and 50 years since Charlie joined the band? Curiouser and curiouser.....

Enjoyed hanging with my old co-author Ronnie Wood last night, at a Faces-related event in NYC. My favorite part? He was drinking Diet Coke, and I was drinking Jack Daniel's. (He's the one who introduced me to Jack, back in my youth.) It's great to see him on the wagon (two years sober) and rarin' to go -- with or without the Stones. (And for the time being, it's without. The Woodman has pulled back on his earlier prediction of a Stones studio reunion for this month.)

No matter what people think still could happen ... it is very safe to say that they are definitely not going to tour this year at this point.  In fact, they have already stated it and it's out in the open that this is not in the cards. To boot... there was even an article in RS Mag about it. That was the real nail in the coffin and it sealed that notions fate permanently.  The live thing is not going to happen this year.

My thought is they will do shows in some fashion next year and release a new studio album as well (provided all goes well... keep your fingers CROSSED). It is also my thought that this tour will be structured differently than their the normal gargantuan tour. The shows and their dates and how they go about it will be different IMO.

Ronnie Wood Apologizes to Rolling Stones for 'Wrong' Studio Reports
by Gary Graff and Billboard Staff | April 15, 2012 1:00 EDT

Andrew Putler/Redferns

Ronnie Wood recently caused a stir when the music press quoted him as saying the Rolling Stones were preparing to hit the recording studio again later this month, but he tells Billboard those comments were not accurately reported and led to an unfortunate conversation with the band's frontman.

"I heard from (Mick) Jagger; he's going, 'What the hell?! We don't know anything yet!' And I said, 'you know what (the media) are like. I just expressed my personal view; I would love to go into the studio.' Then they took it all wrong," he said.

He added, "So I have to make a personal apology to the rest of the band. I didn't mean to say things out of line."

Those comments, that the Stones would be hitting the studio "to just throw some ideas around," were made Monday after a press conference for his "Faces, Time and Places" art exhibit.

Speaking to us from Cleveland over the weekend, where he was inducted for a second time into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this time for The Faces, a sober Wood said he's looking forward to the "Rolling Stones 50" coffee table book in July and an as-yet-untitled documentary due in the fall.

"We do have a 50th anniversary," the guitarist promised. "Whatever is going to be done, we will know in the next few months."

Me thinks that Mick is doing some "damage control" in light of Ronnie's big mouth.

Starting at 1:27, Ronnie speaks the words he was quoted for, and I don't see that he was taken out of context: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIRri_zcsq0

Yes...it sounds like an offer has been placed on the table and the lawyers are deciding  to accept or counter-offer...

"We don't know anything yet"

That would make sense for a tour...but not to simply record music or such...
The "training for the Olympics" comment...that indicates a massive event...not just a studio recording session

After Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood said the legendary band would soon be in the studio together, he back-pedaled at a recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, saying he was only expressing his own interest in recording. But Wood was overheard Tuesday night telling two pals at E&E Grill House in Times Square that he, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were going to “play around with some ideas in the studio next week.” Wood, who just played the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City solo, was sipping a double espresso with friends at E&E during the intermission at “The Book of Mormon,” spies said. He was also overheard saying he was meeting up with former Faces bandmate Rod Stewart and that they’re also hatching a reunion plan. Faces reunited at the Hall of Fame induction, but Stewart was sick and couldn’t make it.

I never believed the story that Ronnie was "mistaken" when he mentioned that studio time originally, the backpedaling was pretty ridiculous, especially the way Mick's words were passed on to us. It does go to show I think that Mick's probably agreed to hear them out and see if they had anything of interest to offer (how likely is that?) before committing to working on a new album.

If not he'll just save his songs for another solo album in 2014. It's unlikely he's got anything of particular interest to share himself (it hasn't been the case since...er...Wandering Spirit) but he probably doesn't want to go for another ABB, which was a glorified solo album with the annoyance of having to deal with Keith.

Sounds to me like Mick and Keith are going to get together and see what they have. If they have lots of tunes-we get a new album.  If they have a few tunes they could be added to a new greatest hits ala Forty Licks.  If they have nothing we get nothing. I don't think they want to build false hopes if they have nothing.   :nomames

Bill Wyman to re-join Rolling Stones
added: 28 Apr 2012
by: Noise11

Expect to see an old name in the Rolling Stones credits soon. With news that the band is heading back to the studio to mark its 50th year, the word on the street is that Bill Wyman is re-joining the band.

Plans are underway for a 50th anniversary event that is now likely to take place in 2013, marking 50 years since Charlie Watts joined the band.

The Rolling Stones timeline is:

April 1962 ' Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones form the band
June, 1962 ' 'The Rollin' Stones' first gig under than name
December, 1962 ' Bill Wyman joins
January, 1963 ' Charlie Watts

Officially, the 50th came and went this month without any fanfare. According to Keith, the 50th should be marked from when Charlie joined.

However, getting agreement on what to do has been difficult for The Stones. Charlie's decision to stop touring after A Bigger Bang made the band re-evaluate its future and the 50th events could very well make this time really be the last time for The Stones.

Instead of another major tour, the plans are being drawn up for a series of one-offs and that suits Bill Wyman. Like Charlie, he won't tour either but a few shows and a few sessions seems within his comfort zone. However, Bill won't get on a plane so his 'one-off' may be limited to London. In 1990 while on tour with The Stones he was on a plane in a nasty storm. That is why he will no longer fly unless it is absolutely necessary.

Bill was the oldest member of The Rolling Stones. He is 75-years old now, 5 years older than Charlie. He left The Rolling Stones after 'Steel Wheels'. His departure was announced in December, 1992.

All of them are at a point in their life where it would be totally cool if they say 'no more' and personally I think we've seen the last of them. Not because of any individual choice or anything, but because it's difficult to get four (or five if it is true Bill is to tag along) guys their age in shape to embark on a world tour at the same time. Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen can take a rest if they need to and hire some hands whenever they feel like it. It doesn't work that way with the Stones. With that said, I'm still waiting to be surprised: it would be a friggin huge achievement if they pull it off.

Also...I have never heard of Charlie not wanting to tour...perhaps not a 2-plus year around the world 1 1/2 times tour...but NEVER???

Initially I was really upset when I read that Ronnie retracted and that Mick denounced it.

Now, after reading it without frustration and looking at the interview once again with Ronnie talking about it I feel, as many do, that Ronnie / Mick was indeed doing some damage control and didn't want it to be made public yet. As was pointed out, Ronnie didn't say they were talking about it, or thinking about it ...he said they had plans as if it was a go. To me, he sounded as if it was pretty solid plans... I know Ronnie can be loose at the lips and sometimes gets his facts jumbled but come on... he knows something.. otherwise why would he state they had these recording plans? You may say he read the article in RS Mag in which Keith stated they may be heading into the studio this month but again, come on now... I am more than sure he talks to Keith and the boys about it and does not have to rely on the press to determine what The Stones plans are.. he IS in the band remember...

Hopefully they want people/ fans to keep all their attention on the documentary and book right now without focusing on their recording plans or their plans in general for next year (whatever they may be at the moment) is what is going on.

Its Paul Cashmere who spread this story, Mel.

The same Paul Cashmere who told the world a couple of years ago that Charlie had quit the band and who ended up looking like a twat when it was confirmed that he hadn't.

The whole thing reads of damage control on his part. If the Stones never tour again, he can save a bit of face by saying it never happened because Charlie wouldn't do it.
