Post by Gazza on Feb 8th, 2011 at 4:08pm
Thanks to Henk from Amsterdam for the info .

Apparently, the Universal plans for the Stones back catalogue for later this year is along the following lines :

A 'Some Girls' box set, with CD, DVD and extra songs from 1978 - released in September

A greatest hits release covering the Rolling Stones Records era (eg 1971 on]

A box set featuring all the singles from 1971 to 2007

There will also be a new Rolling Stones tour in 2012.

I'm a bit of a sucker for the new Universal releases. I got the Deluxe Exile Road Case from Cashconverters in Telford!? £140, brand new. Nearly died when I saw it in the window. It's full of Universal products in there, maybe someone works for Universal and borrows things.
Really pleased to hear of a Some Girls box. The possibilites for the DVD are endless, let's just hope it's not just the promos for Miss You, Respectable, Far Away Eyes etc.
And as for a tour in 2012 bring it all on.

No price for the US yet or a pre-sale that I could see.

I logged in with my account and still got the Ronnie Box and nothing else.

Thank you for the track listing Gazza!  This and the big Aretha box set coming out a month apart.  I need to save my pennies.

Simply curious. Oh and by the way .... notice the release date of the new Some Girls (September, 2011). Looks like no new album planned for the fall.... or early winter. I know, ..... with no tour in 2011 what makes me think they should put out an album right? ....

I dunno... it's been how friggin long is why!!!! Regardless of a tour ....why not put out an album? I know, I know, ..... a tour would help sell it but geez guys.... come on. It's going to be two friggin albums in fourteen years for cryin out loud!!! That's not cutting it ...tour or no tour.

No. You've misread it. There's nothing in the singles box set that's previously unreleased. It's a re-issue, after all.

It says they're 'not currently available on official releases' - ie, they're songs that arent available on albums. Most of this stuff is remixes and all that nonsense - as they were only released on singles, and singles have a very limited shelf-life, they're therefore 'not currently available'.

I just posted all the information that I was given. Dont know anything more. The tour info came from the same source as the release info.

As there wont be a tour in 2011 and there's a lot of back catalogue/archive material being released this year, I think it's s safe bet to assume there won't be an album of new material in 2011.

Not much point releasing one without a tour, so as there's a greatest hits release coming out in 2011, I'd imagine Universal would be hoping for fresh product for 2012 if the band is going on the road.

It's being done by Eagle Rock - the same people who did the new 'L & G' and 'Stones in Exile'. When they announced they were doing those two, they did mention that it was their intention to put out a couple of Stones archive releases per year, so as there appears to be a documentary DVD with this release, maybe a concert release would see them holding to that pledge.

I would imagine that if there IS a concert DVD, it would be Fort Worth. The entire gig was filmed for a concert movie (with the highly original working title of 'Ladies and Gentlemen, the Rolling Stones') but it was shelved. Only six songs have ever circulated from the gig on video, although a professionally mixed soundboard of the whole performance eventually circulated on audio in 1994/95.

A poster on IORR under the user name Kowalski (Nice Brando reference!) who is obviously a collector lists the following tracks which appear to have eluded whoever compiled this collection :
Before They Make Me Run (Bob Clearmountain remix)
- released in 1978 as 7" single

If I Was A Dancer (Dance Pt. 2)
Dance (dub instrumental)
- both released in 1981 as 12" single

Too Much Blood (Dance version)
Too Much Blood (Dub version)
- both released in 1983 as 12" single

Winning Ugly (NY mix)
- released in 1986 as 12" single

Rock And A Hard Place (Bonus Beats Mix)
Rock And A Hard Place (Oh-Oh Hard Dub Mix)
Rock And A Hard Place (Michael Brauer Mix)
- all released in 1989 on various Rock And A Hard Place CD singles

Almost Hear You Sigh (Remix)
- released in 1989 as CD single

2000 Light Years From Home (Live version)
- released in 1991 as b-side to Highwire

Sexdrive (Dirty Hands mix)
Sexdrive (Club version)
- both released in 1991 on Sexdrive CD single

Tumbling Dice (Live version)
Street Fighting Man( Live version)
- both released in 1991 on Jumpin' Jack Flash CD single (which is missing actually)

Tumbling Dice (Live version 2)
Live With Me (Live version)
- both released in 1996 on Wild Horses CD single

Out Of Control (Don Was Live Remix)
- released in 1998 on Out Of Control CD single

Memory Motel (Live - single version)
Gimme Shelter (Live - single version)
- both released in 1998

Rain Fall Down (Ashley Beedle's "Heavy Disco" Dub Re-Edit)
Rain Fall Down (will.i.am Instrumental)
- released in 2005 on Rain Fall Down CD single

Biggest Mistake (Instrumental)
- released in 2006 on Biggest Mistake CD single

Gimme Shelter on Saint Of Me single is the same as the one on Wild Horses single. But Tumbling Dice and Live With Me are still missing.

They could have included at least 5 more singles (Dance / Too Much Blood / Winning Ugly / Jumpin' Jack Flash / Wild Horses).

And quite possibly :
The alternate mixes of All Down The Line and Sway released in 1972 and 1971 respectively.

Also they apparently missed the following 7"/Single edit versions :
Wild Horses (1971)
It's Only Rock'n Roll (1974)
Fool To Cry (1976)
Hot Stuff (1976)
Miss You (1978)
Far Away Eyes (1978)
Shattered (1978)
Emotional Rescue (1980)
Waiting On A Friend (1981)
Undercover Of The Night (1983)
She Was Hot (1983)
One Hit (To The Body) (1986)
Mixed Emotions (1989)
Sexdrive (1991)
Streets Of Love (2005)
Biggest Mistake (2006)

which is rather strange as they included many single edits...

also missing : most of the "radio clean" edits (only Sparks Will Fly is included).

Another poster - ironbelly - points out that the 'Rock and a Hard Place (live)' track on Single 32 may be a typo as no such version was released as a single. It could well be instead the live version of '2000 Light Years From Home' that Mel Belli correctly mentions above.

Not quite.

Considering its a boxed set reissue of the band's singles, and with the track listings already available, I cant see how anyone could interpret that info as 'containing 80 unreleased songs'....  :-/

It would be a much better seller for 80 unreleased songs...

Love's pain, I ain't buying...

so they found the master for ThinkI'm Going Mad?

Are the Exile singles going to be the single mixes?

Will Sway be the single mix?

A poster on IORR under the user name Kowalski (Nice Brando reference!) who is obviously a collector lists the following tracks which appear to have eluded whoever compiled this collection :
Before They Make Me Run (Bob Clearmountain remix)
- released in 1978 as 7" single

If I Was A Dancer (Dance Pt. 2)
Dance (dub instrumental)
- both released in 1981 as 12" single

Too Much Blood (Dance version)
Too Much Blood (Dub version)
- both released in 1983 as 12" single

Winning Ugly (NY mix)
- released in 1986 as 12" single

Rock And A Hard Place (Bonus Beats Mix)
Rock And A Hard Place (Oh-Oh Hard Dub Mix)
Rock And A Hard Place (Michael Brauer Mix)
- all released in 1989 on various Rock And A Hard Place CD singles

Almost Hear You Sigh (Remix)
- released in 1989 as CD single

2000 Light Years From Home (Live version)
- released in 1991 as b-side to Highwire

Sexdrive (Dirty Hands mix)
Sexdrive (Club version)
- both released in 1991 on Sexdrive CD single

Tumbling Dice (Live version)
Street Fighting Man( Live version)
- both released in 1991 on Jumpin' Jack Flash CD single (which is missing actually)

Tumbling Dice (Live version 2)
Live With Me (Live version)
- both released in 1996 on Wild Horses CD single

Out Of Control (Don Was Live Remix)
- released in 1998 on Out Of Control CD single

Memory Motel (Live - single version)
Gimme Shelter (Live - single version)
- both released in 1998

Rain Fall Down (Ashley Beedle's "Heavy Disco" Dub Re-Edit)
Rain Fall Down (will.i.am Instrumental)
- released in 2005 on Rain Fall Down CD single

Biggest Mistake (Instrumental)
- released in 2006 on Biggest Mistake CD single

Gimme Shelter on Saint Of Me single is the same as the one on Wild Horses single. But Tumbling Dice and Live With Me are still missing.

They could have included at least 5 more singles (Dance / Too Much Blood / Winning Ugly / Jumpin' Jack Flash / Wild Horses).

And quite possibly :
The alternate mixes of All Down The Line and Sway released in 1972 and 1971 respectively.

Also they apparently missed the following 7"/Single edit versions :
Wild Horses (1971)
It's Only Rock'n Roll (1974)
Fool To Cry (1976)
Hot Stuff (1976)
Miss You (1978)
Far Away Eyes (1978)
Shattered (1978)
Emotional Rescue (1980)
Waiting On A Friend (1981)
Undercover Of The Night (1983)
She Was Hot (1983)
One Hit (To The Body) (1986)
Mixed Emotions (1989)
Sexdrive (1991)
Streets Of Love (2005)
Biggest Mistake (2006)

which is rather strange as they included many single edits...

also missing : most of the "radio clean" edits (only Sparks Will Fly is included).

Another poster - ironbelly - points out that the 'Rock and a Hard Place (live)' track on Single 32 may be a typo as no such version was released as a single. It could well be instead the live version of '2000 Light Years From Home' that Mel Belli correctly mentions above.

I will be bummed that they miss putting out the great single versions of songs like Sway and All Down The Line... and yes, all the other mixes offf of the 70's singles... hearing different mixes of these songs really kicks ass. The 80's and 90's mixes are just dance remixes... but the rock n roll remixes in the 70's have added guitars and other stuff... a real treat.

I fear 2011 Mick Jagger vocals being added to the Some Girls box.  For the love of MXR Phase 100's, leave the tracks as they were in 1977!

Good to see he's still being put to good use! That possibly explains his rumoured appearance at a band meeting two months ago....

They're not going to airbrush him out this time?

Apparently, the Universal plans for the Stones back catalogue for later this year is along the following lines :

A 'Some Girls' box set, with CD, DVD and extra songs from 1978 - released in September

A greatest hits release covering the Rolling Stones Records era (eg 1971 on]

A box set featuring all the singles from 1971 to 2007

There will also be a new Rolling Stones tour in 2012.

He's already added vocals to two that we know of, back in 1994.

"So Young" (released as a b-side) and "Fiji Jim" (still unreleased and - in it's 1994 version - uncirculated)

The singles box set sounds quite intriguing, but I can't justify buying it for that much. I'll definitely look for the Some Girls re-issue, especially if they do something similar to the Exile release last year. I'm curious as to what unreleased material is going to be added.

Considering I only currently own the mid-80’s CBS Some Girls CD, this forthcoming ‘Deluxe’ edition sounds wonderful.

The new Greatest Hits set intrigues me slightly. What does everyone think we’ll get? A 2-CD set that incorporates all their UK/US Top-20 hits? Or a single-disc affair that trots out the utterly predictable? I suspect the latter. 40-Licks was a Best-Of – as apposed to a straight-up ‘hits package’, so here’s hoping at least some of the hits omitted from that particular comp – Little Red Rooster, Time Is On My Side, Dandelion, etc – get the exposure they deserve.

Isn't appearing that way now is it... As you said, with all this back catalog and The bigger Some Girls re-release ....  it seems they have already marked the year with other projects. There isn't going to be a Stones album in late summer if Some Girls is coming out in September. As well .... doesn't hold much chance of an album release in October-November-December is also unlikely being as they are going to space that thing out by itself, with no other Stones related releases around in order to maximize buying potential for the new one.

Geesh .... the problem is this folks... The Stones KNOW that more than any other band on the planet, they got the industry by the nuts. Odds are their tour will be a huge success. More than any other act The Stones is going to be the safest bet for not loosing any money. As well, they know people will be looking to their next album and they can simply relax.... wait out this struggle between Cohl and Live Nation and do things whenever they please.

**The only thing they haven't got in the bag in their age. I mean geez. They seem in no worry on taking on a major tour pushing seventy years old for cryin out loud! That big opportunity, or level of success has never been realistic with other "groups" at that crazy age. Heck.... nobody's at that age anyway as far as a Rock act LOL!!!!

they simply know they got things as they want them except, god forbid, any health issues arise. I mean, Geez ....if they want to do this they should get on youd think. They are pushing seventy years old here!!!!

In a sense, it's a pretty ridiculous concept. A goup of seventy year old's going on major tour as a rock band. Only The Stones are capable of this....

Ian love your enthusiasm but I am not sure Stones tour is as "sure" a financial success as you seem to think. Unless they agree to take much less than ABB Tour I doubt some promoter is going to guarantee huge up front sums. Hate to say it but the only sure fire stadium winner these days is U2. Now of course if Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks can charge $165 for arena seats Stones could get $250 I'm sure.

Must say this is fantastic news; 'Some Girls' has always been one of my absolute favourite albums - still play it, or selected tracks from it, regularly. Loved the 2009 Remaster.

So many tracks have circulated from the late seventies sessions, so to get these (and maybe some that even collectors don't have) in even better quality would be wonderful.

The hope of course is for the DVD - any new Stones documentary is welcomed, but the prize would be, as many have written here, that 1978 gig from Fort Worth. To finally have a full, pro-shot 1978 show would be sublime!
