If I'm in Philly on October 31 it'll be for Game 3.

But we'll both be looking for a recording from the Tower...  ;)

For sure.  3rd time seeing JG, 1st for the Mule, though I dig the boots I've heard.  Jackie's one of, if not my favorite live performer of today.

Yep...it was pretty awesome!  I wrote down the setlist myself but that looks correct too (-;.  Started with UMT, which had JG on the electric, Warren on acoustic - played studio style, with Jackie playing the slowed down solo break.  Monkey Man had an amazing groove - Mule's keys player did a great job during the break before the outro.  Heartbreaker was kind of a surprise, and it had some horns to boot!  Jackie with the slow, yearning solo as done on GHS (though a bit longer).  CYHMK was another treat, Jackie starting out on PERCUSSION (Rocky Dijon style) and dancing like only he can once the 2nd half began, then he went to the keys.  Song had THREE parts last night - rock, jazz, then back to HEAR ME RINGING...SOFT AND LOW rock part for a bit.  Angie was next, 2 acoustics, and not surprisingly, was the "piss break" song for most at this show too.  Ventilator Blues had Jackie on harp - a nice arrangement.  Shattered was next - the keyboard player played bass, the bassist went to drums, and their drummer came out and sang, dressed in '81 style Jagger gear and prancing like him!  Crowd loved it, and his singing wasn't bad either.  Wild Horses was nice - Jackie had some good, tasteful Nashville style leads on his electric.  Next up - SLAVE.  Oh yeah.  Horns, keys, guitars, all of 'em got to jam out.  Gimme Shelter wasn't bad, but the sound was a bit off for it.  Play With Fire was next, and I believe the Mule plays this one a lot, so it got a good reaction.  Only JG and WH on acoustics, a nice change of pace.  Paint it Black followed, and it was a nice performance - very Eastern-sounding.  Bitch was next - with horns of course, though I wish there were some lead licks.  Both guitars played the riff only, I was hoping for some of those Keith/Albert King style licks!  Great nonetheless.  Brown Sugar ended it - a party on wheels as always.  Didn't know much of the 2nd set, but I did enjoy what I heard.  Some great costumes too, but I was a very lucky ROer to see this special set!

Damn,it's come to this. Not only are these bands doing Stones covers. But their doing entire setlists of Stones material that's better than the Stones play....and pulling it off quite well evidently. :-/

What we are seeing is a different philosophy. Bands such as Gov't Mule and Phish, enjoy PLAYING music onstage.....not PERFORMING it.

Look at the article on IORR about Wayne Perkins.http://www.iorr.org/talk/read.php?1,1144740 He states while he was auditioning, Jagger and Charlie came up to him and stood on each side, saying nothing at all. They wanted to see how he would "look" as a Rolling Stone. (We know that was all Mick, I'm sure Charlie couldn't give two shits)

Forget he was the best man for the job musically...but Ronnie "looked" the part. The ugly side of the Stones seems to be... they are more image conscience then music conscience. It's evident with what music they have put out since the 80's....nothing spectacular.

Their live performances are just that....a performance. That's sad, because I believe if they had the same philosophy as bands such as Gov't Mule, Phish, The Grateful Dead....they truley would be The Greatest Rock N Roll band in the world.

Yeah, well put Bingo. I pretty much realized all that. But at least these other bands are doing the Stones material justice. Even if they can't do it themselves.

Thanks!  For me - I was in my "Nascar fan" costume - fake 'stache, bandana, flannel shirt, aviators.  Nothing compared to some of the crazy stuff I saw; some of the women there...I don't know how they were allowed in, being 99% nude...

jumping into the conversation...

the thing with playing the sets - the phish deal last night was a one off, not a tour. same with the mule last night. the phish thing has a long tradition. back in the day, they covered an album, in its entirety, on halloween - like the band dressing up for the holiday... loaded and quadrophenia were my favorites (but i love those albums, so...). they would only do this performance once, though their standard setlist (if there is such a thing) includes a cover or two each night (sometimes including rock and roll or loving cup, for example). dont know a helluvalot about the mule, but i know they did a jimi tribute set during one of their gigs at one of those landsdowne bars next to fenway back when they were a power trio with woody on bass - that was absolutely sick. other than that, i dont remember them doing anything band related until this halloween gig, but again - i am no expert on the matter.

this touring behind an album every night kind of is rough (imo) unless it is a new album (like greendale); the revivals, like astral weeks and tommy (complete with billy idol, back when i was in high school - yuk) have always seemed like a nostalgia trip, whereas greendale (like it or not) was a new piece that was performed to new audiences. what is too bad is that even the rollingstone article lss posted states that some of the tunes played last night were firsts - anywhere; imo, it is too bad the stones didnt pop the cherries of let it loose and casino boogie live on stage somewhere...

all that said, i thought phish did a great job last night. was it better than it would have been hearing the stones play their tunes live..? imo, no. but the halloween gig had its moments. and it was great to hear somebody play the whole album, straight through - it was like a revisiting an old friend in acompletely different way.

i look forward to hearing the mule set (i havent seen any torrents up, yet).

Well said.

FYI, Mule did a Pink Floyd set last Halloween.

One Of These Days > Fearless > Pigs On The Wing Part 2 > Shine On You Crazy Diamond > Have A Cigar > Speak To Me > Breathe > On The Run > Time > Great Gig In The Sky > Money > Comfortably Numb > Shine On You Crazy Diamond Reprise > Wish You Were Here

I posted the video of 'One of These Days' > 'Fearless' earlier in this thread...

They also did 'Houses Of The Holy' in 07.

Word - I could tell that the Mule and Jackie genuinely enjoyed playing these songs.  Like they knew they were some of the best grooves ever, and playing the shit outta them.  I especially love when artists can capture the little nuances that make each song special, i.e. the cool keyboard part or that "da da da" percussion on Slave.
