Title: Jagger vs Joplin
Post by Bleeding Volcano on Feb 25th, 2009 at 3:59pm
Janis was as great a perfomer as mIck...but she didn't have that great band behind her. Or that great management (Ian Stewart, to steer her in the right direction.) But onstage persona was great.

janis had several great bands backing her.

kinda pointless to pit one vs. the other. mick and janis are/were icons for a reason...

Their as different as night & day, mick would never allow himself to get drunk & do those in concert drunk raps as Janis did, can you imagine Janis dancing like Jagger?? she was so high & drunk she could hardly stand up, I'll never forget the drunken rap she did in Toronto (it's on her In Concert album) back in the 70's, liquor stores were closed on Sunday, & she was going on about not being able to get a drink on Sunday, "that's the one day of the week you need it most" & "I don't understand this town, can't get a drink on Sunday" but I'm sure she got lots of drinks, but Jagger & her are not even close in stage manner & personalities.

One artist whose legendary reputation always passed me by. Ok, a very tragic figure but there's a subtle difference between emotive blues wailing and sounding like a cat in labour.

The only male rock singer that could be in the same comparison as her would be Robert Plant in his Led Zep days, but only in the blues wailing vain.

It's a shame this thread hasn't died, as it's one of Motels' dumbest ever.

Here's a new handle:  "Ten Thousand Threads" :solongsucker

it would be one thing if he only started ten thousand threads...if only they didn't suck worse than a sexually abused vacuum cleaner.
