Title: Keith's ballads Post by MaineMotels on Sep 10th, 2008 at 7:28pm
Normally I'm kind of cool and condescending towards ballads, but I just listened to "losing my touch", which I've listened to many times. But tonight, for some reason, it just kind of blindsided me....weak moment or something. Just wondering what you all's favorite Keith Ballads are. There's one off ABB that I really liked but since I lent out my copy and never got it back, I can't even remember the title.

Keith's balalsa are great, but best when sperated, they are pure works of heart and passsion... Make a comp of his voc. tracks onto a disc, you have to skip a few, since you can't put it all on a 80 min. cdr anymore... the balalds are great... |

'HOW CAN I STOP

I always interpreted the message in that song as a subbliminal reference to his life & career, not just as a straightforward love song. ie, he'll be a Rolling Stone until he dies. |

John Barleycorn: A Ballad
There was three kings into the east, Three kings both great and high, And they hae sworn a solemn oath John Barleycorn should die. They took a plough and plough'd him down, Put clods upon his head, And they hae sworn a solemn oath John Barleycorn was dead. But the cheerful Spring came kindly on, And show'rs began to fall; John Barleycorn got up again, And sore surpris'd them all. The sultry suns of Summer came, And he grew thick and strong; His head weel arm'd wi' pointed spears, That no one should him wrong. The sober Autumn enter'd mild, When he grew wan and pale; His bending joints and drooping head Show'd he began to fail. His colour sicken'd more and more, He faded into age; And then his enemies began To show their deadly rage. They've taen a weapon, long and sharp, And cut him by the knee; Then tied him fast upon a cart, Like a rogue for forgerie. They laid him down upon his back, And cudgell'd him full sore; They hung him up before the storm, And turn'd him o'er and o'er. They laid him out upon the floor, To work him further woe; And still, as signs of life appear'd, They toss'd him to and fro. They wasted, o'er a scorching flame, The marrow of his bones; But a miller us'd him worst of all, For he crush'd him between two stones. And they hae taen his very heart's blood, And drank it round and round; And still the more and more they drank, Their joy did more abound. John Barleycorn was a hero bold, Of noble enterprise; For if you do but taste his blood, 'Twill make your courage rise. 'Twill make a man forget his woe; 'Twill heighten all his joy; 'Twill make the widow's heart to sing, Tho' the tear were in her eye. Then let us toast John Barleycorn, Each man a glass in hand; And may his great posterity Ne'er fail in old Scotland! images_003.jpg (Attachment deleted)

My favorite is "You got The silver" in Lennon/McCartney songs there's always one person who wrote the songs, either it's a Lennon song & so on, I wonder about Jagger & Richards, did they both write the early songs? or is one person responsible for the song? like I know Let's spend TNT is Jagger, Ruby Tuesday is Richards, how about Play with fire/as tears go by/good times bad times, etc

Much more collaborations in the 60's when they were more of a team than from the 70's onwards when they barely live in the same country. Jagger didnt really write proficiently on his own until around the late 60's. 'Brown sugar' was an early example. Ruby Tuesday, by most accounts, really should have had a co-credit with Brian. |

You Got The Silver is my favorite too. Coming Down Again is outstanding. This Place is Empty, Thief In The Night, Sleep Tonight are all good. I never cared for All About You.

Title: Re: Keith's ballads Post by tumbledsomebody on Sep 11th, 2008 at 10:48pm
okay
so keith's ballads are 100 years old and your point is________ ? and Furthermore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_DTdFppN9c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Us-Qzze9iGk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo_WAbnKCPc so there. hoowa and I would hasten to Add.... that I belive wholeheartedly and without any slight hesitation that Keith and Keith Alone wrote Sweet Virginia. I will prove this to you in my future threat post entited. "Proof. of Your Wine California" I really hate it when Mick doesn't sing Keith's lyrics right, like he always sings, that line wrong. you know the one.. |

I prefer Keiths ballads to Micks.
My absoloute favourite, is the unreleased, We Had It All. Okay, not a Stones original, but nevertheless, an absoloutle beautiful performance. Along with How Can I Stop?, a recording that showcases Keith's pure, raw-emotion |
