the Stones have been rocking EVERY day of my life
other dudes just dont get what the music means to me

the riffs, the drums, the licks, the snarl, the sniff of danger, the mix of punk-country-rock-blues-soul, the excitement of a tour announcement, the stress of getting tickets, the thrill of the wait, the best freaking live show on the planet, the look in the eyes of Keef and Mick on that stage, and the great peeps i have met thru loving these skinny little runts from the UK.

i remember lady jane being one of the very first songs i had heard from them. i remember turning my head sideways, as a dog does when he is trying to understand or make sense of something and going wow...what strange lyrics.

This is how i describe the stones to people that aren't in the know.

They started out as a blues cover band
They started to write songs and had mediocre success to begin with, but turned into a singles machine.
They didn't really make a great record until 1966.
And then 1968 hit....
For the next 5 years they were untouchable. Period.
Mick Taylor leaves and they start to become the band that we know today: slightly lazy, songs not as great
The 1975 tour was marred by an unintelligible Mick Jagger.
1978 was a great year and maybe their last great year.
Tattoo You is WAY overrated.
The 80s was a nightmare until 1989 when they did their most overproduced shows ever but decent none the less.
1994 produced their best record since Exile.
1997 was a great tour...i especially liked the web picks aspect of the show
1999 ron was drunk and never in the live mix
2002 was their best tour since 1978
2005 sucked
Shine A Light was decent but has too many shitty guests MINUS buddy guy. Ron was actually a highlight.

That's the short version that i give.

In a nutshell, they are the true rock and roll story. The quentissential story. From their founding by Brian Jones, to the horrible digs they had to endure while getting their sound out to central Britain. And then, to the success of steady club dates, radio broadcasts, TV appearances....the conquering of America and Europe and the rest of the world....on to all the different sounds and tours and album projects...and the fact that they are still going today! Yes, yes, yes, I second all that.....
But, I would also add that they are the only band that force me to ask my bank manager "May I go" ???
They are also the only band that chronically shits on me and other fans through RS.shite, and that literally sells off any aspect of "being a fan" at maximum gain, including standing at the front of the stage courtesy of Fanasylum???
They are also the only band to fuck their fans by cancelling any number of shows extremely late, just so they get all their losses recovered through insurance, while leaving us out of pocket on hotels,flights, etc????? And then they are the only band to then go and stage "Shine A Light"??? Then they are the only band to up the ante by allowing some fans to fill seats at the Beacon,to then get chucked out for young bimboes, because they look more photogenic than us, who have financed their superstar-lifestyles for years.

Did I forget anything?????
