New Book: "The 27s" - Brian Jones, Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Joplin, Cobain, Robert Johnson, etc.

Looks like an interesting book.. release date TBA

The 27s - The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll
Creators Josh Hunter and Eric Segalstad are publishing a complete and illustrated account of the 27 phenomenon titled The 27s - The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll.

"The 27 Club refers to Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain," says author Eric Segalstad. "But far more interesting is the greater 27s story and the fact that it tells a surprisingly complete history of rock & roll: Starting with Robert Johnson's death from poisoned whisky seventy years ago, through doo-wop, Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones, Pigpen of The Grateful Dead, Alan Wilson of Canned Heat, the little-known father of funk, Gary Thain, The Stooges, Badfinger, Big Star, Minutemen, Echo & the Bunnymen - and so on all the way through Jeremy Ward of The Mars Volta."

"It's a story that goes a lot deeper than a simple biography," says illustrator Josh Hunter whose artwork re-introduces these artists for a new generation. "It's about the various aspects of artistdom, pop culture, philosophy, and the ancient power of an incredible number."

Hunter's prior work includes hand-drawn posters and silk screens for Bill Graham Presents, Widespread Panic, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Derek Trucks Band, Stockholm Syndrome, Robert Fripp, Porcupine Tree, New Monsoon, String Cheese Incident, STS9, and many more.

The 27s - The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll will be released later this year and you can stay updated by signing up to the mailing list at www.the27s.com.

The history of rock & roll is incomplete without The 27s, but somehow rock's greatest story has remained untold-until now.
If you're reading this you probably know that Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain's lives were cut short at age 27, but the same fate happened to thirty other musicians. Sure, they weren't all equally famous, but every one of them pushed rock in new directions, leaving lasting legacies that continue to inspire fans and musicians. Here's a partial list to consider: Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones, Delta bluesman Robert Johnson, D. Boon of the Minutemen. Mia Zapata of The Gits, crooner Jesse Belvin, Badfinger's Pete Ham, Chris Bell of Big Star, Gary Thain of Uriah Heep, Alan Wilson of Canned Heat, Freaky Tah of Lost Boyz, Pete de Freitas of Echo & The Bunnymen, Kristin Pfaff of Hole, and Jeremy Ward of The Mars Volta.
The story unfolds over 292 full-color pages packed with illustrations, mind-blowing revelations, eerie coincidences, trivia, interviews, and a myth greater than them all. It's a story about fame & loneliness, success & defeat, struggle & perseverance, modesty & excess …and life & death.

Don't miss out on "The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll."
