Title: Fav. American artists of '64-66.

This is artists that were well 'known in '64-66 period, & it's American, only 30 to choose from, so Lou Christie, Association, Cyrkle, Percy Sledge, Vogues, We Five, etc were left out.
No guests, more then one option.

Paul Revere & Raiders weren't in the garage band poll, but their getting their due here, like I mentioned, they are a major band in the 60's, I bought their album "Midnight Ride" in '66, all original songs, except for " Steppin' Stone" (covered by The Monkees of all bands later on) I think it was written by Boyce & Hart, but "Louie go Home" was covered by David Jones (David Bowie) in one of his early 60's bands before he became who he is.
The Lovin' Spoonful were a great band, they were major big band in the 60's, Sir Douglas Quintet's "She's About A Mover" still gets me up & dancing every time I hear it, Beau Brummels "Laugh Laugh" I remember as being on the Flintstones, only called The Beau Brummelstones.

Yeah, I agree, The Rascals were very Underrated, they had more soul then a Motown act.

Ok, gotta go vote.....quite a lot of good choices here too....:)

I am more a Stax person than a Motown person {love the raw R&B sound}.

May come back and comment after I vote {for quite a few, as usual... ::)}

These are great polls!!!!!!  ;D And lovely discussions... :) My dream come true on a message board.... :-*

I voted for a bunch. Most of the usual....LOVE was great...:)

I think Otis Redding was the best of the R&B'ers. But I did vote for Marvin Gaye.

Rascals, Byrds....great. I loved Buffalo Springfield too! They got in on the latter part of the poll timeline....too early for Jeff. Airplane. Some good choices, though! :) :solongsucker

It was a sad commentary on his music then, but I can make little argument for including Elvis in this period.

The soundtracks to 'Harum Scarum' and 'Frankie & Johnny' dont get much of a spin Chez Jizzy, then?

Elvis was busy filming one of his 33 movies, he sent a telegram to welcome The Beatles to America, but by a movie about him, he didn't think to highly of The Beatles and the Rolling stones, as he called them The Rolling Rocks.

A friend of mine played a number of gigs with Arthur about a year before his death. Said he was just in awe of him and thrilled to do it. He's also played extensively with Mark Lindsay, Moby Grape {later incarnation}, the Monks {another great 60's garage band!}, Richard and the Young Lions....He's also a road manager for the band Moonie Suzuki.

I love Arthur's songs and also those of the late Bryan MacLean.

stax was definately the shit...
most of the this list is pop-oriented - and i love most of these artists -
but in terms of raw music - stax blows everything here away....

Dylan is leading big time!!  how about the Byrds? this is the hit parade from 64-66, Dylan didn't have a big hit until 'like A rolling stone in '65" there's a lot of other bands that had major big hits.
