Title: advice Post by TenThousandMotels on May 13th, 2008 at 9:48pm
I have a decision to make. But let me explain. Lewiston Maine is a town about 30 miles from me. Bob Dylan has played there, maybe three or four times. I alway's can't make it for some reason usually money. I haven't seen him live yet. Anyhow, I just found out today that he's playing Lewiston this Saturday night. By the luck of the draw I have the money this time around. I'm so excited I'm typing this with my beer holding hand.

Title: Re: advice Post by left shoe shuffle on May 13th, 2008 at 10:19pm A no brainer. Put the polls on hold for a night and make the trip. |

OK. Good advice. If didn't need the encouragement I wouldn't have asked for it. I've blown this opportunity several times before. And I've kicked myself in the ass. |

Go. Or forever wish you had. The man is a national treasure and he won't be around forever. Then come back here and tell us all about it. :booze :keithpunky

Drama queen? Bob Dylan will be within 30 miles of me in 3 days....and I'm not supposed to get excited? Whatever happened to the concept of "awe". I know....cynicism has replaced childhood. |
Title: Re: advice Post by Sioux on May 14th, 2008 at 12:09am
The last time my husband saw Dylan {a couple of years ago}, he said he was disappointed. And he said he won't pay to see him again. BUT...having said that, if you haven't seen him, and if he's that close to you and you have the money....I say "go". :)

If you don't make it, you should go see a doctor, you may have some medical condition preventing you fron going to see living legends perform. Maybe they'll name the disease after you... Show us you're well, GO!!!

Pfft. What was he expecting? I'll admit that Bob may be old. But I'll fork over the the cash just to say I saw him. |

From what I've heard the Stones don't alwats deliver. But you pay your money and take your chances.

You gotta go TTM!
Just like you have to get round to seeing the Stones sometime! ;) |

you will not have compete fulfillment, in your life, until you see Dylan. |

" From what I've heard the Stones don't alwats deliver"
These persons who make such comments are Bay City Roller fans. They want instant satisfaction, do not appreciate the history before them. Moses will part the sea, swallow up the State of Maine for such comments. Now, you have received enough encouragement here, take off the small pants, get yourself to this show. |
Title: Re: advice Post by Edith Grove on May 14th, 2008 at 5:23am
I find Bob to be very hit or miss, either very good or very bad on any given night.
I wouldn't jump on a plane to go see him, but I wouldn't hesitate to take a 30-mile road trip for him either. |
Title: Re: advice Post by lotsajizz on May 14th, 2008 at 7:15am
go
btw, I was last in your neck of the woods for the huge '88 Oxford Speedway shows (the Dead w/Little Feat opening)--where you there? |

here's an idea for a new TTM poll:
"I have to take a dookie. Should I do it before lunch or after lunch?" it will be a slightly less exciting poll than this one. |

I disagree. Even when Keith was having his problems during the last tour, Ronnie picked up the slack. I've never seen The Rolling Stones NOT give a great show - even while freezing their asses off in Chicago. At the very WORST, they'll phone in a setlist full of warhorses, and even that beats anyone else on their best night. At their very BEST, they'll leave you stunned, satisfied, and wondering how the hell they still do it. Granted, they're not the Stones of '73, but it's 35 years later, and they're still bringing it all back home, imo. |

I've seen tons of concerts but none made me feel nearly as good as the Stones did. There's just something special about them that no other band seems to be able to replicate. |

Well, he saw him a few years ago. This was basically the same show, only not as good. He LOVES Dylan, and he's afraid that seeing him anymore will destroy the memory of the REAL Bob....the one of the 60's/70's. Oh, and I forgot....he went with a friend who had an extra ticket, so he didn't even pay this time. He said he won't go again because he doesn't want to myth and memory to be dashed... :ouch |

TIA |

I'm hoping TTMs absence from the board since yesterday evening indicates that he went.
Here's the setlist - includes what is a quite rare performance of "Mississippi" 1. Watching The River Flow 2. Lay, Lady, Lay 3. The Levee's Gonna Break 4. Shelter From The Storm 5. Rollin' And Tumblin' 6. The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll 7. Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum 8. Mississippi 9. Highway 61 Revisited 10. Workingman's Blues #2 11. It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) 12. Spirit On The Water 13. Ballad Of Hollis Brown 14. Summer Days 15. Ain't Talkin' (encore) 16. Thunder On The Mountain 17. Blowin' In The Wind Lots of songs choices whose titles have references to water, storms, wind and general turbulence (1,3,4,5,8,12,16,17). Maybe Bob's been preoccupied with watching the news from China and Burma of late. |
