Oh, right. THAT'S why we're all here, no?
They are my touchstone. They are an international phenomenon, and they defined what blues-based rock and roll is supposed to be. Never been anything like 'em. |

Hi, Martha!
I was just checking and it looks like many of the NY area IMAX screens are switching to "Speed Racer" on Friday. That might happen in your area, too. If you want to see SAL again, you might want to go before Friday! |

I have decided to get out of intellectual property law and start the world's first Stones lawfirm.
The firm will specialize in Stones-tour related divorce, Stones-tour related bankruptcy, defending those caught driving under the influence of one or more controlled substances :weed :booze, and defending those charged with public nuisance through loud music or pissing in public :pullanolte. I'll sue ABKCO pro bono. |

The key to all that is Rock n' Roll. The gateway band. If you ever wanna discover and explore rock n' roll just listen to the Rolling Stones and go from there. Blues, country, soul, punk, rock, glam, folk, they did it all.

Title: Re: THE ROLLING STONES Post by Heart Of Stone on May 6th, 2008 at 4:32pm
I've loved The Stones since '64, my Sister's used to make fun of me by saying, this guy knows what they had for breakfast, I knew everything about them back then, & those were the days when everybody around me thought they were ugly, that's all the comments I heard about them, oh, their so homely & so on, I absolutely loved their albums, in the 60's on the London label, their music was a world of difference, they did Motown, soul, etc, while a lot of other groups were pop, like Herman Hermits, Gerry & pacemakers, etc.
so that's my imput. |

I just wanted a thread on the NEW RO to celebrate OUR Band.
We seem to have a lot of new posters after the move and I'd like to hear what they have to say. No one needs to prove anything. I'm just in the mood to stand up and loudly cheer our Boys. Surely there is nothing wrong with that! I've been around long enough to know that we get into a wide array of subjects when the Band is on break. And if I'm being "jb'ish" by stating that looking at the Board and seeing topic after topic of NO Stones Content kind of disturbs me, well then I'll consider that a compliment. LJ. |

Title: Re: THE ROLLING STONES Post by Sioux on May 6th, 2008 at 11:53pm
Wow, where to begin.... :) In a nutshell....at first, in '64, when I saw my first picture of the Stones {I can still remember what picture it was}, I was afraid of them! They didn't smile and looked surly and angry. The Beatles always looked so cute and smiley and peppy. lol But then I started to HEAR the Stones... :) 8-) And I loved what I heard. Lots of blusey harp, dual guitars, melodic bass lines, powerful drumming, and a unique sounding lead vocalist {was he indeed a white Englishman or really a black man from the delta? ;)} And then, as I learned their story/history, I was so impressed with the way they {especially Brian, at first} were determined to get their music heard, and expose people {first Brits, and then Americans} with the Chicago-blues-by-way-of-the-Southern-delta music. And then the albums started coming and coming....raw, powerful, versatile.
I guess I also loved them because the adults hated them. That is always a great incentive. ;) And now, after decades and decades, I still get a kick out of hearing and seeing them, still rockin', defying age and comments that they should "hang it up", determined to go on and on. I guess I just wouldn't know what to do WITHOUT the Rolling Stones. There's so much more...but not enough time to put it all into words. But I think you get the gist of it all... :) |

PARMEDA and I meet up for all kinds of Dylan gigs....we can't get enuff of his tour bus! And I know I am at the moment forgetting so many others that I've had the pleasure and great fortune to meet and greet all because I fell in love with THE ROLLING STONES! This a good way of doing this..I'll happily take the ball and run with this one 1. Bill's bass during the middle eight of 'Miss You' 2. The fact that 'Little Red Rooster' is the only bonafide record in history to top the singles charts 3. Mick whipping the crowd into a frenzy in the middle of 'Midnight Rambler' from 'Brussels Affair' 4. Keith's opening notes of 'Gimme Shelter' which still make the hair on various parts of my anatomy stand up every time (my description of it as 'flickering menace portending doom' or something like that won me a signed copy of Ronnie's autobiography). A friend or mine years ago remarked "that's a song you actually wouldnt mind getting your head kicked in to"..... 5. Mick's vocal in the second half of 'Let It Loose' 6. Charlie's little snare solo just before the final chorus of 'When The Whip Comes Down'. 7. The way Mick sings the word 'Lightning!" on 'If I Was A Dancer' 8. Keith's 1977 Toronto tapes. Staring down the barrel of oblivion yet the most emotive singing of his life. 9. Mick Taylor's solo and those strings on 'Winter' 10. Their tour announcements. Whether it's Juilliard, Brooklyn Bridge or the Blimp, no one makes a statement or grand entrance quite like them. It's must-see TV every 3 years or so. |

Here's my top ten, probably a lot of it you guys don't even notice, but these little things are the things that make the Stones the best for me:
1 - YCAGWYW, studio version, right in the beggining of the acoustic riff... It's so quiet and intimate! You have the choir, and then just this little, great acoustic riff. Genious 2 - Again YCAGWYW from Brussels, Mick Taylor's solo into the sax solo. And the passion on Jagger's voice on that version. 3 - Winter. Right after the first chorus, when Mick sings "sure be a cold cold winter lord" and then makes this little laugh. 4 - Shine a light, studio version, the gospel back singers. Especially on the "And the angels beating all their wings in time" part. 5 - Mick and Keith harmonizing vocals on Casino Boogie 6 - Keith's back vocal on Dead Flowers on Ladies and Gentleman 7 - Mick and Keith little guitar/harmonica duel on Out of Control, on the Bridges to Babylon DVD 8 - Ronnie and Keith's guitar weaving on the No Security version of Gimme Shelter. Hell, this whole version rocks! My favorite version ever 9 - Mick's vocals on I got the Blues, let it loose, sway, gimme shelter, etc etc 10 - The fact that they went through EVERYTHING and still are together playing. I could see this very well on the Shine a Light movie. Despite all the horns and backup singers, it's still 4 guys having fun and playing rock n' roll. There's probably a lot more reasons, but I can't remember right now! |
