I would like to see Chuck Berry live again. £45 is a little steep imo though and I'd be more tempted if it was a little more central.

It's awfully tempting. Where is this Hackney place? I'm staying near the BM...

North-East

By BM I presume you mean British Museum.

Hackney's not an area thats particularly well served by the Tube, but according to this page on the Hackney Empire it seems easily reached by bus.

I saw Chuck in at Purchase College in 2005 or 06. He kept forgetting the words and drifting into the wrong song.
We got 40 seconds of "Sweet Little Sixteen" in the middle of "Johnny B. Goode". And quite a few other such mix-ups.

Yup, that's the Chuck I got last fall.

Played 'Reelin' & Rockin'' twice in 45 minutes.
Daughter Ingrid got a healthy dollop of mic time, too.

Still dug it, and couldn't complain about the price.

Free. ;D

Never really enjoyed Ingrid's presence during the shows.  Lately she's been taking a very long harmonica solo.  Sounds like she just picked up the instrument and was self-taught as she sounds very ordinary and nothing special or technical about her execution.    Just blowing notes in the same key as the song.

Eh, that makes it questionable! I don't need to travel at great expense for THAT!

Well, opinions vary. He played the 100 Club in London a couple of months ago as well as a lot of other Euro dates and whilst some reviews of the show were hit and miss, a lot of people said they enjoyed it.

I suppose you have to take into account the fact that the man is 81 years of age. I dont know whether or not youve seen him before, but if you havent, maybe its something you might want to do once. These guys are a rapidly dying breed, after all. I saw him in 1995 when he played here and enjoyed it but skipped it when he came back a year or so ago because I'd read a few negative reviews which put me off. I'm sorry now I didnt go.

Hackney Empire's a quaint little old theatre by all accounts.

an extremely beautiful and ornate theatre.

Charlie Chaplin, WC Fields, Stan Laurel and Marie Lloyd, have all performed there.

..and now it's Chuck's turn.

Yes definitely. I’ll let you know what my plans are when I know.   ;D

Getting back to Chuck himself, as Gazza has said, the man is 81 years old and that is what need to be taken into account. H won’t have the dexterity he once had his movement will be slowing down all the time.

I’ll tell what. Compare Chuck at 60 years old to Keith at the same age and then tell me how well you think  Keith will be playing in 10, 15, 20 years time.

This is the best quality recent-ish Berry footage I've found on You Tube. Worth watching.

Well, if it's anything like his performances at Blueberry Hill in St. Louis in the past six or seven years, be prepared for an hour long show in which Chuck only plays about 20 minutes and does the Buddy Guy trick of playing only about a minute and a half of each song before going on to the next one.

But if someone has never seen Check Berry in concert before, I say go see the living legend and forget about the alternative ways in which you could have spent that money.
