June 1st - you mean July 1st.

Anyway, aside from anything else.....if they were going to bow out in London in July 2012, the date to do it would be the 12th

50th anniversary of their first ever show.

In 2012 gas will be at least $10 a gallon. Would any band be able to haul around 50 trucks of equipment, charge enough money to make a profit and still be able to pack the place?

Not only has the stadium tour been on the wane in the last decade or so but I think touring itself is soon coming to a halt.

I was born on an Air Force Base
Nineteen sixty two
A rocket launch into outer space
Knocked me out of the womb
I cried and cried and cried
Happy to be alive
Astronauts were orbiting Earth
The Space Age was in sight

Where is the future that was promised us
Where is the future for everyone
Where is the future that was promised us
Where is our future of fun
Where is the future that was promised us
I'm sick to death of this one

I want to live in a floating city
I want to drive a bubble car
I want to fly with my personal jet pack
I want to visit my family on Mars
I want to live in an era of peace,
Of Love and Justice, Wonder and Truth
I want a world run by giant brains
Instead of small-minded arrogant fools

I just booked a flight on ba.com & at the end they asked me if I wanted to spend an extra $38 to offset my carbon footprint. WTF????

But don't they tour America first because of the higher profit margin? If American fuel prices double or triple in the space of a few years would it really not affect the prices and attendance of a Stones tour?

Also I could be wrong but I don't think Europe has the culture of the gas guzzler and 30-50 mile one way work commute which is going to place a heavy strain on the disposable income of even the Stones upper middle class target audience.

Its all relative i suppose. Even if your fuel prices doubled youre still paying less than we are, and with higher incomes. It'd still be relatively inexpensive. Anyway they do it, Stones tickets are so high that they're still going to make zillions.

we're certainly a bit more conscious of the "gas guzzling" here, but the work commute you describe is pretty commonplace over here too.

gazza...what do you do for a living?

when i lived in britain, the minimum wage was lower than it is here in the US, food cost more, people made less...but still everyone went out and got schockered on saturday nights and ended up peeing on the streets of newcastle...
