Title: Who do People want as fav. bass players.
Post by Heart Of Stone on Apr 18th, 2008 at 7:52pm
If I started a poll as favorite Bass players in  classic Rock (from the 60's & 70's)  who would people pick? Remember this is the 60/& 70's, not the 50's or 80's? pick your favorites, & then I'll add a poll, unless somebody else wants to.

Great additions specially Jack from the airplane and the ox

I have never heard or seen Trey Gunn playing bass but I'm sure that will be a toy for him

I know he's a jazz player but I'd be very hard pressed not to include Stanley Clarke on the list. If for no other reason than his great work with the New Barbarians, but his jazz work is incredible too, especially his stuff with Return To Forever.

As far as rock players go? Gotta go with Bill "the little hands that could" Wyman, and The Ox. The bass line on The Real Me  and My Generation should be required studying for anyone that even considers picking up a bass.

Of the major bands, I've always felt that Entwistle was the best.

I agree 120% he is one of the best, I recently posted a message about the "Return of Return to Forever" this year, if you can attend a live show

I actually saw him play TWO basses at the same time (a true Spinal Tap moment!) during a King Crimson show on the '04 or '05 tour--one worn normally, the other on a stand next to him like a lap slide would be set up.....he's incredibly talented and is now on hiatus from Crimson while Levin's back in....

60's and 70's bassists is too limited, why not ALL rock bassists?

I saw Return to Forever back in the mid 80's. I was blown away at the stunning bass lines that he was throwing down. Add Chic Corea, Al Dimeolo, and Lenny White in the mix and it was an incredible night. I have never been a huge jazz fan. I like the greats like Miles and Coltrane an awful lot to be sure, but a lot of jazz leaves me cold. Not so with Return to Forever. Just phenomenal!
