This has been discussed many times. I know , But now it can be scientifically anaylized by the  Greatest rock n roll minds in the world. We all know that Jagger is the frontman of all front men. I just like to like at numbers...........LOL

I always see frontman as lead singers, no Bowie, Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, Alice Cooper, Steve Tyler, Rod Stewart, Freddy Mercury, if Musicians are going be added as Frontman, how about Hendrix?

If we do this poll for the general public, Freddie Mercury wins by a mile.

From the list, Elvis by far.

What happened to Paul McCarthy and David Bowie?  Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, and Steven Tyler?

right on! that's what I question, I mean frontman are frontman, especially Bowie, Daltry, Plant & Tyler???????? & although I never cared for him, but got a lot of respect-Freddy Mercury, I mean not a lot of work was done in this pole, it wasn't done from a lot of thought, some of the people are just musicians, not really frontman, I mean Muddy Waters?? what's he a song & dance man? Bruce Springsteen is another who is a fantastic frontman along with being a great musician, but he sure is a frontman.

Cant see how a solo artist can be described as a 'front man'

OK. I assume a frontman,  unlike a solo artist, has to be an a official member of a band. The lead singer MOST of the time, but not everytime IMO. No? J. Fogerty fronted Creednece no?
I'll admit I was playing fast and loose with the definition. But there seems to me to be some over lap at least as far as roles go, at least on stage. James Brown I guess is not a frontman, but he fulfils the role on stage, no? ANyway it's a deeply flawed poll as I forgot to include Peter Wolf and Ian Gillan. LOL
