Title: Why have the band never released MSG 1969 (on video)?
Post by StickyStones on Jul 26th, 2024 at 5:19pm
The show was supposedly all pro-shot, right? And I mean, it's from the 69 tour which was good, we have audio, it wasn't like it's a bad show -

so why haven't the band ever released it? Why let Hyde Park be the only video representation, publicly, of the band in 1969?

I don't know the reason for sure, it was filmed by Albert and David Maysles with audio. I think  that the audio tapes are partially lost, some say it could be a legal shit with Abkco (I dont' think this is the case, they will be more than happy to released it)

I mean they re-released a remastered RNR Circus and Charlie is My Darling and ABKCO owns both, so I doubt that's a much a factor as it once was.

I mean they could do what Zep did - there's plenty of high quality bootlegs - patch that audio in on songs where there isn't full audio but is video

or you could like, you take one tape where there is a full song from one night at MSG, another from another night there if you really must.

They did 3 shows there back to back in November 1969, between all 3 nights there's gotta be a full concert you could splice together

18 years ago I made this video with footage from MSG 1969 authorized by Albert Maysles and the audio from bootleg recordings. Abkco, Universal and some others tried to remove it claiming copyrights and I won! (Hey Mick if you need help, Voodoo won two legal fights with ABKCO, both while Allen Klein was alive), it was Jimi Hendrix' last birthday!

The video has more than 12M views

I've wathced this one many times over, and you rock for making it.

Lemme ask you...The Stones were intensely creative in the studio between 1968 and fall 1970, especially. You get the germination of ideas in those sessions that powered Banquet, Bleed, Exile, with even a few still appearing as late as Goat's Head Soup. There must be hundreds upon hundreds of sketches, tracks etc from 68-70, alt takes

You get the spring 69 sessions where they're a six piece with Brian and Ry Cooder and Keith all there, there's pictures of all 3 on guitar....Possibly early versions of HTW with Brian as reportedly that's the last track he cut with them, we have the demo with just Keith....

You get embyronic versions of Sticky and Exile songs...Stuff like Leather Jacket, Travelin' Man, with Mick Taylor driving the songs

My question is, do you ever foresee a time they'll just do box sets of this era and give us whatever is there?

No, but I wish it so bad! I agree, those years were very productive, and specially, very creative. Some  say it was the Mick Tayor years, I say it was the "Jimmy Miller years", Beggars Banquet the album, singles and outtakes are all good too!

Thanks for watching my video several times!

The real question...after Mick and Keef pass, as in die...will COCKSUCKER BLUES ever get released? I've only seen it once or twice...
As a documentary of the Stones. Its not great, if I recall...but as a documentary of the debauchery and decadence of the times
when it truly was Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll...it reigns  SUPREME.

Isn't it still shown once a year in NYC with the director in house?
I believe its the only way its allowed to be shown in public...or am I making this up?
Kinda hard to tell sometimes.

The question about Cocksucker Blues is, would the version that used to be on YT (or maybe even still is there) be released, I heard it's the cut version, or would someone dig out the uncut version, cause tbh I'm mildly scared wtf else there might be on there..I have heard stories from a few people who say they have seen stuff somewhere deep deep in the web...but maybe those are just urban myths LOL

As for the MSG performance, I so wanna watch a video of Sympathy...there are a few vids on YT but not of Sympathy...so mean...also thanks for sharing that backstage vid, Voodoo, it's so cool!!

Wow this is amazing!! Thanks a lot for sharing! And it is the MSG performance of 1969 because they are wearing the exact same clothes, I have watched the other coloured vids on YT many times and seen loads of pics...that shirt and scarf Mick is wearing is iconic

Love how well you can hear the guitars, especially Keith's, but is it my phone speakers or my ears or the video, cause I couldn't really hear the drums :-?

That one only three years, it's new to me and I have explored https://reelinintheyears.com/ since 2020 during the pandemic and I think before

Great stuff there, I was watching festivals like Isle of Wight 1970, cool website
