It is something I never wanted to hear (or see) and I was hoping it was some mistake or joke. I don't know what to say other than Gazza was the best .. and I want go on record as saying such. I have to try and let this sink in and try to wrap my head around this .. as I sit here in The States in silence in thought over this ... so I cannot post a lot. All wind is currently gone from my sails. I just don't know what I want to do right now. I really don't. Ian |

You will be greatly missed Gary.
Twenty some years ago I discovered this forum (and IORR), and for the Licks shows in Dublin in September 2003 I attended the fans' meetup. There I met Gary, his good and dearly missed friend John, and plenty of the Stones fan community. A wealth of Stones knowledge, and a great wit. Over the years we stayed in touch and I met him many times at gigs in UK or Ireland by the Stones, Dylan, Neil Young, Springsteen..etc. Gary was such a welcoming soul, very friendly, and we shared so many great evenings before and after shows. When I first met my wife, Gary and John hosted us in Belfast for one heck of an evening of alcohol and some wonderful music chat. Magic memories. We will miss you Gary; much love always from myself and Sachiyo, and our deepest condolences to Heather and your extended family at this very difficult time. |

This is so sad. I respected him so much as a fan of great music and a true lover of life. I’m so sad for everyone who actually knew and loved him.
He was the first person to respond to one of my RO posts ca. 2000. Some dumb Taylor vs Wood thread. I’d been lurking and already had figured out that he was an alpha poster in terms of wit, knowledge, and openness. When he responded to my post (I don’t think I even introduced myself and just opened with full tilt Stones spew) and he said I raised some good points I really felt welcomed into the community. Time waits for no one, I guess. But what a drag it is getting old. |

Gary was one of a kind.
I remember enjoying his posts when I first joined RO. Finally met him in NYC in 2006 and a wonderful friendship ensued with nightly chats about music and life-some politics-LOL The past 18 years went by in a blur of concerts-Bob, Stones, Neil, Bruce and I even dragged him to Mumford and Sons. Everywhere we went, there would be multiple people that knew him. He was always buying/selling tickets for people, some he barely knew. He would always stop to ask any homeless person he passed if they needed help. And of course there was the bootlegs. To say I will miss him is an understatement. He took a piece of my heart when he left this world. My thoughts and prayers are for Heather, who found him. It is a terrible not being able to say goodbye to someone you love. I am so glad he did not suffer and went peacefully in his sleep. Play the Music loud, Gazza!! See you again someday I hope. Love ya |

The efforts of the admins on these boards over the years have indeed brought so many people together. That is indeed a hell of a legacy. |

In 2018 my wife and I decided to jaunt over to London for a few days. There were assorted reasons for the trip -the typical London tourist stuff - and of course a Rolling Stones’ concert. But the main reason and my #1 goal was to meet the famous Gazza! I had read his “suffer no fool” quips on this and other websites. He seemed so engaging, honest, and knowledgeable about my favorite band! I found out a Rocks Off summit was to take place at the Cabbage Patch. We made out way there and had a drink or two with Gary just moments before the show at Twickenham. Nancy and I had met Gary earlier when his tickets were upgraded to the “Golden Circle.” He and the entire gang were a delight and the absolute highlight of our trip. Since then, I would email Gary now and then and he was always prompt with a reply. When I was touring Madison Square Garden recently - he reminded me he had seen the Stones at the Garden before all of the interior changes that were made to that famous arena. Like everyone here - I am devastated by the news. I am thankful I was able to meet him and many of the wonderful people on this board. Prayers of comfort for all. RIP my friend!

I so hate this news. Gazza was so integral in RO history. Not just a huge loss for Rocks Off but a huge loss for Stones' fandom everywhere.
As an oldtimer who mostly lurks these days I was profoundly saddened to see this news on FB. I had to come to this wonderful site that brought so many of us together. Gary was a huge part of that and it was wonderful to see him a couple of times on his visits to NYC. Rest easy Gazza. Gary attended 3 of the Irish shows: Belfast, Cork and Dublin. Bruce ended shows in Cork, Kilkenny and Dublin by singing ‘Rainy Day in Soho’, as a tribute to Shane MacGowan, the last version in Dublin is the strongest. Here's the official audio recording of this last song from the Dublin show: https://youtu.be/kO6qIZ5JqLU Gary wrote this on his Facebook page after the first Belfast show: Hometown gigs are always special (I wish the Stones would give me one!). Two more Irish shows next week and then Wembley in July. (Wembley #2, last concert of this 2024 European tour). July 27th. In Belfast, the concert ended as it had since the start of this tour in 2023, with the poignant song ‘I'll See You in My Dream': https://youtu.be/RCOR7hmCNIk The road is long and seeming without end The days go on, I remember you my friend And though you're gone and my heart's been emptied it seems I'll see you in my dreams I got your guitar here by the bed All your favorite records and all the books that you read And though my soul feels like it's been split at the seams I'll see you in my dreams I'll see you in my dreams When all our summers have come to an end I'll see you in my dreams We'll meet and live and laugh again I'll see you in my dreams Yeah, up around the river bend For death is not the end And I'll see you in my dreams |

Haven’t posted here in over a decade or so. Always lurking, always anxious for the next Gazza post. Never was that good at social media. Remember Martha! Loved her post about Dylan as she seemed to be following him on tour to the next inevitable destination. Kind of reminded me of my Deadhead days. Saint Sway? What’s next a JB or Sir Stonesalot sighting?
Like everyone was shocked and devastated about Gary’s passing. Three Keith songs? After the concert here in Atlanta wanted to see what the incredible Gazza had to say. He was one of the most talented, informative posters I’ve seen. Instead there was just numbing sadness. My ultimate experience with Gary happened in Madrid in 2007. It’s where I met him. He was with fellow Rocks Off member Mary Stone. It was a spiritual moment for me. Both Gary and Mary were such beautiful souls. Both left such lasting impressions. Wow what a time we had! The concert itself was fantastic though the Bigger Bang tour had no songs from a Bigger Bang. Afterwards, Gary was getting his picture taken with Charlie Watts (have a copy of that photo). Myself? Was getting my pockets picked but that’s another story. Gary, what a full life he lived. Always off to the next musical adventure were the next concert by Dylan, the Stones, and Bruce awaited him. Gazza you’re simply unforgettable. He’s probably jamming with Hendrix as never a chance to see him live before. Another new interesting experience being added to a wealth of them. ![]() |

Some friends and I were due to attend the Marseille show on May 25th. It was cancelled two hours before the start, Bruce having a voice extinction.
The Prague show and the two Milan shows were also cancelled. On IORR, another guy was talking about postponing these 4 shows until 2025. An American guy was saying that Springsteen wasn't going to come back to Europe in 2025 for just 4 shows, and thus a third year in a row on our European continent. Gary said: The info I heard from a couple of good sources in Cork & Dublin last week suggested that he actually WILL be. Aiken's (his promoters in Ireland) seem confident of a couple of Irish shows next summer. It'll be interesting to read in the next few days exactly what they intend to do about these concerts. I simply can't see him NOT rescheduling shows that were due to take place at the San Siro. For him, its as close to an iconic venue for Europe as Met Life would be in the US. (San Siro is Milan's stadium) This is Gary's last post on IORR Springsteen topic. Gary is no longer with us. The 4 shows have officially been postponed until 2025, including Milan, and there's room between dates to add another 5 or 6 shows. Probably in Ireland for some of them. For the third year in a row. |

I am devastated beyond words. I am haunted by my last conversation I had with Gary, just last week, and it has taken me days to come back here and post something as it was too painful to read what happened.
While I am in disbelief he is gone, I am hurting for Heather as I know from the experience of losing my husband the same way, what she is going through. We all have so many memories we will cherish whether it is a funny story, a photo, a song; Gary will be sorely missed but never forgotten. What an amazing person he was, and an incredible friend. And to Gerardo, my sincere condolences to you, as well. You have lost your brother-from-another-mother, your partner in crime. Much love to you, my friend. |

Reading this thread now, I feel embarrassed that I didn't say enough back on page 1. Seeing all these great people and posters come out to celebrate Gazza is emotional and incredible. I wish I had said more!
I still remember a few private emails from Gazza back in the day with some very wise scolding advice as to how to live life. And I'll always remember walking down a street in London in 2003 and hearing a loud whistle and "hey, you fecking idiot, we're over here!" Gary (and Gerado) built something incredible here. Brought lots of nice people together. He will always be remembered by me. |
