Recently, since Kim Simmonds passed away I'm a lot into live boogie! How I love boogie... do you love boogie? let's boogie you B&B!

:willya

Since it's slow with stones news and we need the new album and tour I started this to see if you help me create the best playlist of real boogie

So let's start with the Stones with Eric Clapton and the King of Boogie! Mr. John Lee Hooker

Thanks.... now we're talking! Little Feat!! One thing I love from Rocks Off is that we're not "purists" and we all listen much more music than only Stones

Rocksoff Boogie  :willya

Now I'm Boogie Child in Wonderland

I remember one live by Bachman Turner Overdrive, a long boogie but can't find it...

Many songs with "boogie" in the name are not boogies, not even close, at least not the John Lee Hooker boogie that this tread is all about

This is great!!A great great boogie!! It's Jeff Beck, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, the song starts with a blues, "blues deluxe" but without piano, so completely different to the original studio version, so no Nicky but Jeff using a Talk Box like a bastard!!!

Then at minute 5:38 we have a great boogie (John Lee Hooker style) with talk box by some of my fav power trios

Hooker in hi-def:

https://www.analogplanet.com/content/john-lee-hookers-1962-blues-classic-burnin-heats-turntables-again-new-kevin-gray

John Lee Hooker’s 1962 Blues Classic Burnin’ Heats Up Turntables Again With New Kevin Gray-Remastered All-Analog 180g LP From Craft Recordings

“Burnin’ paired Hooker with a full, electric band for the first time on record, with six of the most talented musicians of the era — all of whom served as members of Motown Records’ house players. Joining Hooker was keyboardist Joe Hunter, bassist James Jamerson, guitarist Larry Veeder, and drummer Benny Benjamin. A horn section, featuring saxophonist Hank Crosby and baritone saxophonist Andrew “Mike” Terry, added additional textures to the songs. These men, who soon came to be known as the Funk Brothers, would appear on the biggest hits of the decade, backing sessions by the Supremes, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, the Temptations, and Stevie Wonder.”

LOL thanks Tom! You Boogie!

:blankfriggingstare1 :forfucksake :smilebrian

I have it on VHS, then on LP (bootleg), then on LP, then on CD/DVD, and then on DVD/BluRay (in the big big box "The Early Years"

Those days were very special 11th and 12th January 1967, the winter of love in London! Brian Jones, as you mentioned, was in the audience, and that day John and Yoko Met and became friends. The show was the "14 hour TechnicolourDream Extravaganza" psychedelic imagery and jammimg with sike-ay-delic improvisations... a real psychedelic boogie! It appears on the film "Tonite, let's all make love in London"

So... it don't belong here but I love it, I really do!

A wonderful rabbit hole to have fallen down into...

And I won't attempt to distinguish between boogie and boogie woogie
and where each overlap with swing beats early on and rock beats later.
Except to agree that the disco-era use of the word is not part of this
tradition

Tons of material, but I'm only going to post what seem like gold
nuggets to me. Except for these next two which, while certainly
having merit on their own, are posted here for a different reason

I just watched a 1-hour Brit doco (attached below in 4 parts)

1) Its gonna save me a lot of posting, because of the many great artists
and clips included, which you can find on youtube

2) So it now seems to me: a) boogie woogie is the piano-centric form
that originated in the 1890s, while b) boogie is the guitar-centric form
that originated when blues guitarists began to imitate, as best they could,
the wildly popular piano form.

3) It might be as simple as this: If your honky-tonk or speakeasy or
juke joint could afford a piano, you got boogie woogie. If not, you
got a boogie guitarist. Either way your customers got up and danced

4) Not that the two genre-names havent been used confusingly
and interchangeably throughout the past (and no doubt into the
future). Same as rock and rock'n'roll, which I distinguish
between, but many (most?) do not.

5) Thinking about it some more, I don't think its too far off the mark
to say (even if its an oversimplification): when, in the course of
human events, these musicians got together in small groups
and married up boogie woogie piano with boogie guitar,
what they ended up with was what would come to be
known as rock'n'roll

6) Part 4 below features Charlie Watts (as a player, not a speaker)
as a member of the "south bank boogie band". I don't know the timeline,
but I'm guessing that this one-time-only band led directly into the
"A, B, C, D of Boogie Woogie" band

1) When it comes to "boogie", there is also the question of tempo,
as mentioned earlier in this thread.

2) I'm on the "fast" side of this argument, so for me "casino
boogie" doesnt really qualify. For me, "casino boogie" is
sorta old-school R&B combined with hillbilly vocals (I just
love how the Stones somehow make such unlikely amalgams
work seamlessly. Its one of their great strengths)

3) There are however two tracks in the Stones' part of the
universe that for me are among the best boogies. Coincidentally
both have inscrutable titles, so we'll simply re-name them...

"The Keith and Nicky Boogie"
("I boogied in the ballroom/I boogied in the dark")

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYFq26I8lvo

"The Ron Wood Boogie"
("I never knew what it was to be loved/I never knew what it was to be laid")

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at3qITDYdS8

4) Also: Ben Waters has said he was inspired to take up boogie
woogie when he watched a joint TV appearance by Jerry Lee Lewis,
Ray Charles, and Fats Domino. Here it is (with Ronnie and Steve
both members of the band):

I'll finish up my contribution to this thread with some miscellany...

You can find nearly every big name in 20th century piano history
attached to the word boogie. Earl Fatha Hynes, Huey Piano Smith,
Professor Longhair, Duke Ellington, Count Basie etc etc

As impressive as these musicians are, for me it all starts to blend
together. More or less, a piano note is a piano note. Without the
varying phrasings and timbre of guitars and vocals, its not really
what I want to listen to...

That said, I find this woman quite entertaining...

Same with these two guys...

This whole clip is good, but its most famous for the last minute,
when Gene Krupa drums on a match box with a pair of matchsticks...

Is this a boogie? I don't care, it makes me boogie
(It's a good day for paying your bills/It's a good day for curing your ills/
So take a deep breath and throw away your pills/Its a good day from morning til night
)

Finally let's get real real gone for a change...
