Title: Old-New Stones Videos
Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Aug 12th, 2022 at 7:47am

You may or may not have noticed that Abkco now has over a hundred
Stones lyric videos, from the monstrously successful Paint It Black
(406 million views) all the way down to something like Please Go
Home
(22 thousand views). Probably even the low-view ones will,
in the long run, turn out to be profitable.

And now it looks like the post-Abkco Stones are about to join the party,
with the debut today of the Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)
official lyric video

(trigger alert: the thumbnail features Ronnie not Taylor, although pics
of Taylor are included in the main part)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2-uzhyoEyA

Also of interest is the recent simultaneous release, on both the Abkco
and current Stones channels, of 4K versions of the original JJ Flash
promos. This cooperation and the super quality seems to bode well for
an eventual killer video compilation

I did know, but I did not want to put anything about it since I hate ABKCO, this despite the fact that I am one of the few who has won a legal lawsuit against them

Many of the mentioned in the first post are in this board, the new ones are posted in our message board in Spanish, and I I got some links in WhatsApp groups, but didn't want to post them here... fuck ABKCO, "leaders in stealing the legal way since the 60s"

Because the lyrics are transcribed by millennials with no experience of period idiom, one can expect errors such as in Troubles A’ Comin, where "Old man Trouble" emerges as "Oh my, trouble."  Jagger's slurring doesn't help, though.

(While we wait, with bated breath, for the Brown Sugar Official Lyric Video...)

I'm not sure if I knew there was even one official I Go Wild promo

I definitely didnt know there were two

The first, on the Stones official channel, is very good. The second,
apparently only broadcast in selected markets, is great

That's as maybe, but the editing of "Troubles A Comi;,it ain't going nowhere" over the images of Watts and then Watts and Wynan together is somehow strangely impressive and even lovely.

Lisa's so hot in the official video.  She always brought so much confidence to the stage.  Not seeing that lately.

Just released: We Love You in glorious* 4K

(once again co-released by the Stones and Abkco)

* it has been pointed out to me that because the original print was
low-Q there is a limit to just how glorious 4K can be (without state-
of-the-art restoration). Still, this is much better quality than I've
seen before for this promo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOWvT5dPGJE

PLUS its very timely in its use of PRONOUNS

We love they
We love they
And we want you to love they too

Another song they could be marketing as a TV show theme, potentially pulling off a Kate Bush.

Speaking again to the power of lyric videos for younger viewers...

First, let's consider a more-or-less typical Stones promo, Respectable,
which was posted on youtube 10 years ago and has since garnered
3.8 million views. A fun punk-ish vid from a famous 1978 album.

On the other hand, let's look at a lyric vid for a relatively obscure
song from 1966, Lady Jane, which was posted only 2 years ago.
4.0 million views.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_K6wUa7yjuo

By way of further contrast, the audio only Lady Jane track, posted
on the Stones channel 3 years ago, has only 218 thousand views

Unlike many long-time Stones fans,
KIDS THESE DAYS WANNA KNOW THE WORDS
without listening to it 25 times

The best version online I think is not on one of the
official channels. From the Ed Sullivan show. Mick
with one of his most notable haircuts. Charlie on
some kind of marimba. Keith in a German officer's
jacket  (the same one he would wear years later
to the Bianca wedding?) 7.4 million views

Has any footage - cine even - ever been seen of guitarists auditioning for Black & Blue?
More importantly Is there perchance any (restoreable)  footage of Little Ron & Keith playing the blisterimg 11+-min version of 'Hey Niggy-Rita'..

(This is the sort of question one asks when patiently-ish awaiting #Realy Wanna Tell Ruth')

Undoubtedly an even larger withheld category: Less than Brilliant
Rehearsal Footage

...but for me still fascinating: an entire hour from the same rehearsal,
this vid was posted only three weeks ago. I don't think they hit the groove
on anything else quite as hard as on "Hot Stuff". But they come
reasonably close on "Hear Me Knocking" and "Heart of Stone".
And both of the other tunes, "Don't Stop" and "Torn and Frayed",
have their moments.

Notes: 1) the narration disappears after a few minutes 2) the
sound drops out at times 3) the between-songs set-up time
is significant 4) Lisa's role is interesting, she continuously
adds to the energy, always pumping them up a bit 5) After
Mick leaves, Keith does "Happy" to close the "show"

Title: Re: Old-New Stones Videos
Post by Rev 20 Redlights on Oct 7th, 2022 at 3:57am

about two years ago, a new channel appeared on youtube,
Yesterday's Papers, which was heavy enough on
Stones content for me to wonder if it might be a
surreptitious effort on the part of the Stones PR dept

For example...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIkMKjPe6qc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqnEzTqsQq8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipWNDQAwU1Y

However, despite quite a bit of excellent content, this new
channel never reallly caught on, amassing so far only 36K
subscribers.

So it seems circumstantially likely that this new vid on the
Stones own channel represents a change of strategy, that is,
to have Yesterday's content at least occasionally fed
directly via the Stones' own channel, with its 2.1 million
subscribers...

Footnotes:

1) The promo was taken down as soon as the 3-hour episode aired
2) Was the song part of the original broadcast? I don't know. But it
was NOT part of the re-broadcast I fast-forwarded through on my
friend's streaming service, even though the official name of the
episode was "Gimme Shelter"
3) One-time or very-limited use licenses have been around hollywood
for a while now. A song that is part of the original broadcast or theater
release may disappear from subsequent releases on DVD or streaming

Also possibly a limited-use license:

Paint It Black Adam

(This is a nice little promo, but it is in youtube's new category "shorts"
which you can view on a computer, but which can not be embedded.
FYI, youtube "shorts" is a clone of Tik-Tok, designed for smart phones
and limited attention spans)

PIB was well placed and used in Black Adam...it was short and sweet, and appropriate for the scene.
I give the scene 4.5 out of 5 stars...the film 4/5.

In recent years, the cover version by Ciara has probably gotten even
more use in soundtracks than the Stones original. Ciara's has also
been extremely popular with dance troupes, and in that regard
i don't think anyone will ever top the 3.8 million views for this vid
by a platoon of Ukranian strippers...

Perhaps surprisingly, there doesnt seem to be a joujouka-ish version

(i mean, there are versions in every other genre)

however this North African version is certainly related...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKrgyTcu9Lc

much more distantly related is my favorite orchestral version, by
Ramin Djawadi, from the Westworld series (9 million views)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iZ9JRVmJ5o

(it was background for a number of ultra-violent scenes
which are also on youtube if youre interested)
